This was one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed at. The location is terrible, and 30 minutes away from the main city, so the trip to get there was already a pain. When we first got to the hostel, it was very cold. The person managing the reception literally looked at us, walked away from the reception, and left us freezing outside in the cold for 10 minutes until she decided to come back. The toilets and the showers were okay, but the rooms were horrible. The bunks had no space between them...
decent hostel for the price. rooms very musty and stinky, bathrooms looked like they were never clean and very smelly. our issue was more with the people matched in our room, we were three 21 year old girls matched with older men that weren’t ideal roommates. no effort to match us with other women.
Very dirty. Super noisy. Smelled pungent. Though the staff were nice and helpful.
Absolutely awful. They have bed bugs. It’s dirty, loud, and overall awful. The location sucks, the staff are useless, and I would never recommend staying here to anyone who values quality of their stay. BED BUGS. And refused to refund me even after I checked out two days early.
This hostel is filthy. I think I caught bedbugs there. The staff doesn't respect you. These people were repairing their van that was under our only window in the middle of summer. A young man was using a welding machine until about 11 p.m. and the fumes coming out were literally suffocating us. That single night traumatized me, it's a nightmare and it's very expensive! Run away from this place, it's horrible.
Worst hostel I have ever been in my life. I booked 3 nights and after the first night I was out and had to cancel the remaining nights. IMPOSSIBLE to sleep, crazy loud, the room super warm, they don’t even have a simple fan in the room, the room is not ventilated at all, it felt like a sauna in there, absolutely impossible to sleep. To get to the showers you have to go down 2 floors, super incovenient and no USB plugs are provided in the rooms. also the locks are small and a bigger backpack wi...
Hostel housed in a deconsecrated church, with cardboard walls and no natural light, and only four bathrooms for at least 80 people. Rude staff and overcrowded rooms for the Fringe and the Oasis concert, with unsafe beds and substandard spaces. Reservations for seven months in advance, but separate rooms. Far from the city center (a 30-minute walk or bus ride). A terrible and unsafe experience, not recommended: there are many better options in Edinburgh.
From the moment of checking in I did not feel this was going to be a nice stay. 10 days in an out of the way place that was constructed in what seems like a week. The dorms are too short for the wooden bunk beds which all touch each other. So movement in one bed causes movement in all the other beds. The mens showers are so far away from the dorms going down steep stairs. There are not enough toilets. A very strange vibe throughout. The location is in a residential area far away from any shops o...
The rooms and the toilets smell, and are not very clean. Beds create a lot of noise. A person at the reception flirts with you forcibly and tries to learn everything about you. Other workers are also rude. The atmosphere feels weird. The price is too high for this place. Not recommend it.

Quaint hostel located in a convertd old church. I picked it based on its location away from the Royal Mile and Old Town, but it is still conveniently located close to Haymarket train, tram and bus stops and plenty of restaurants. about a 30 minute walk from the castle, botanical gardens etc. the neighborhood is quiet and felt safe. the hostel facilities where adequate and functional. The dorms are are unfortunately not sound insulated in the slightest and you can hear everyone in adjacent rooms.
This hostel was centrally located it was in a great place. Showers where not super convenient they where in the basement
In an old church this could have been a really beautiful and interesting hostel, however this was not the case. The common room was in the basement and the hostel was quite cluttered. For example junk left in the communal courtyards or at the bottom of the stairs. The room was comfortble and simple. The staff were efficient but not overly helpful or friendly. The location is close to Dean Village and most public transport options required a 10 min walk.
They charged us for storing our bags after check-out on our last day, but when we returned to retrieve them, we had to wait almost 30 minutes because there was no staff at the front desk. As a result, we almost missed our flight. One would expect that if this is an additional paid service, the staff would at least be diligent and attentive. We had clearly indicated our return time on the bag tags, yet no one was available to assist us when we arrived.
My friend and I LOVED our stay at Belford Hostel. It genuinely spoiled us. The staff were super friendly, especially Taz, and we had the best time getting to know the other people at the hostel. The kitchen was always clean, and the girls showers were so cute and perfect to get ready in! If we are hosteling in Edinburgh again, we would definitely come back! :)
I really enjoyed my stay here. The bathrooms and showers were cleaned regularly, and the bedding was clean and fresh. The murals are beautiful, and the general vibe is very safe and chill. The hostel is about a 10-minute walk from Haymarket Station. It is a bit out of the way, but I think that probably contributes to the laid-back atmosphere. As a solo female traveler, I felt completely safe here. Although the halls and basement community space get chilly, the rooms are well-heated.
Had a wonderful stay! The hostel was spot on - clean, safe, and comfortable. Would highly recommend it to anyone for a budget-friendly place in Edinburgh .
Cerca a dean village!
Special thank you to Matt! Hostel is amazing’!
Belford Hostel is a great stay! Though, beware of the weekends as backpackers and interrailers are nightly creatures. Your sleep may suffer slightly. Decorations are fun. Showers work. Staff is nice.
Bon emplacement, bonne ambiance, grande cuisine. Cependant les toilettes étaient très sales et peu de toilettes pour le nombre de personnes. Il faut traverser toute l'auberge pour se doucher.
Overall solid hostel. Beds in the 10 bed dorm were comfy enough for bunk beds. Nice big common area and a really big d kitchen are big plusses. Not a fan though that they wanted to record my card details in case of damages + charge for luggage storage.
The hostel was decent. The man at the front with the glasses isn’t very friendly and they charge you to store your luggage after you checkout . The hallways are freezing and the social atmosphere is pretty dead. It’s about a 30 minute walk to the center. I wouldn’t stay here again.
This is a nice hostel with good decor throughout. The bathrooms are very clean and the showers are big. The guy in the front is also very kind and welcoming. It is a little far from the center and the hallways and bathrooms are very cold. If there was heating in these common spaces, I think there would be better reviews. Also, the social atmosphere is lacking even though there is a huge common room and they put on activities.
Really good hostel; been there twice, will likely go again :) Ups: located in really nice, walkable area, kitchen fully stocked, large seating area, great showers (hot water, great water pressure, even shower gels), fun + helpful staff Downs: dorm walls really thin so the hostel never really gets quiet; bunks and doors extremely creaky (they provide earplugs and unless you‘re a deep sleeper, you‘ll need those!)
Really great vibes, kitchen is stocked with anything you could need, beds were comfy, bathrooms clean, walking distance to haymarket station.
I was a solo female traveler staying here and I felt extremely safe, and was able to walk to all my destinations from the hostel. I stayed in a private dorm and it was perfect for the one night. The staff was very helpful and attentive throughout my entire stay, and the overall atmosphere of the hostel and communal areas were very cozy and unique compared to other places i’ve stayed. I already recommended the place to my friend who booked it, and would recommend to others!
It is 30 minutes walk from the city centre, and the locality is peaceful. The accommodation is quite neat, but the rooms feel quite cold in the winter. It is a church converted into a hostel, so the thick stone walls are almost always cold, and in the absence of central heating, when you enter your room, it takes forever to optimise the room temperature. We were there for a night, and the room heating did pretty much nothing till the next morning. It was not the most comfortable night
