UNPLAN Shinjuku

We paid 500.00 a night for a room so small we couldn’t even open the door and both stand on the floor. This room should not have been this price. It was the the size of the bunk bed with only a door width of space to change, put your bags and move around. There was nowhere to put our bags or hang any jackets. Good location but that’s about it. Way too small for this price. Do not book!

The stay was disappointing overall. The staff were generally unpleasant and interactions at the front desk felt curt and unhelpful. Basic questions about the reservation were handled dismissively, and there was little effort made to clarify the situation when there was confusion about the booking. The vibes here are in shambles. The folks were weird and the socialization was uncomfortable almost every time. The beds themselves are a bit thin but just fine otherwise. The private room appears to be a few beds that are separated from the mixed dorm by a curtain, which is hilarious. The folks who booked it were visibly upset. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and worked great. The front door is always covered in smokers so you get to walk through a cloud every time you enter and exit.

Do not stay!! I woke up itchy at night to find a cockroach on my bed. Spoke to the staff who weren’t helpful. I had to ask to change bed. When asked about a refund didn’t get that either. I spoke to other people who thought there might be bed bugs too as they woke up with bite marks. If you look at previous reviews they’ve mentioned bed bugs too. Would not recommend solely based on cleanliness why jeopardise your health?

Absolutes Party-Hostel. Darauf muss man sich einfach einstellen. Nicht so sauber für japanische Standards. War leider nicht mein Ding.

Everything about the hostel was awesome, except our room. It was literally the size of a shoebox. Pictures are very deceiving. We booked a private room and we could barely fit in it, and pipes were sticking out the wall. Definitely not worth the price for money at all, considering it was supposed to be private. I won’t be booking private at this hostel ever again.

La propiedad es diferente a las fotos. Solicité una habitación privada de 2 camas. Estaba rodeada de tuberías las cuales fácilmente podía golpear de casualidad, aparte del camarote, a las justas había un espacio de 1.5m2 más. Fuimos a solicitar un cambio de habitación porque no nos sentimos seguras con las tuberías expuestas, nos dijeron q todo era igual. Decidimos quedarnos, sin embargo,en la 3ra noche aparecieron 2 cucarachas en la cama de arriba. Reclamé la limpieza y no hubo ni una...

The rooms are dusty, and many people sneeze and cough during the night because of that. I also had an allergy due to the dust. They should clean the rooms better to prevent allergens, and the toilets could be cleaner as well.The beds are quite uncomfortable. I woke up several times because of that.They give you only 1 towel for you all stay. If you want to get a clean one, you should pay. Overall, the worst hostel experience I’ve had. If you have allergy, stay away this hostel.

Great bougie hostel - the prices were low when I booked $46CAD. I wouldn't pay the regular $100+CAD. Great hostel just no bunk bed is worth that. Great social, common area, well designed, great location for enjoying Golden Gai and going out drinking and walking back without having to take the first 5AM train because bars and clubs are walking distance away. The free breakfast was a bit underwhelming with bread, yogurt, juice / no hot meal options. Again for the price I paid I think it was perf

Fantastic hostel! Super social and in a really accessible area close to the train as well as night life. The price can triple on the weekends though so plan accordingly

The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at - so private, so clean and also sociable I did have an issue getting the pin for the door for late check in and when I paid in advance due to this I got the link to pay from an email not listed for the hostel. But a fabulous stay when I got there!

Really enjoyed my stay at UNPLAN Shinjuku! The dorm beds were well laid out with even a rack and hangers! No bed light, but that’s fine. Showers were hot with great pressure and amenities provided. The downstairs bar was a great place to meet other travellers and the location was convenient to transit, food, and shops. Only thing is there wasn’t anywhere to lock your luggage in the dorms (open storage area) so if that’s a concern for you, consider other options.

Nice atmosphere, very attentive staff, except my bed I killed 3 blood-filled bed bugs 🪳in my bed and now I'm covered in welts and itchy. I have videos of the insects. In short, everything was fine except for the cleanliness 👎🏻

Great location, solid facilities.

The common area and the bar downstairs are good for socializing in the evening. Facilities were good, no complaints.

The hostel was nice overall, thr only caveit is that I was locked out of my room at night even though I had the correct code and inputed it around 20 times. I could only enter my room after midnight because I was lucky enough to find someone else staying at unplan walk through the front door who I explained my dilemma to and was staying in the same room as me and willing to let me inside. Otherwise I'd be sleeping on the floor with nothing and no staff to call for help. It could have been awful.

I didn't get a notification or email on how to check in once the reception is closed I was stranded outside the hostel with no code to get in.

This was a great place to stay and check out Tokyo and the Cherry Blossoms. The bed was comfy, had adequate bed light, shelves, charging station. The small keyed safe was perfect for my passport and spare cards. The shower was hot hot and high pressure. Great locatiion, walk to the shinjuku night lights or metro in minutes. 7-11 across the street and plenty of food options near. While not a party hostle it had a pleasant social vibe.

Great place and great location. Very much a social hostel and in the heart of shinjuku - easy to get here via transit from the airport. If you plan on having a quiet place to work - would not recommend - there is no quiet place here from 11 AM to 5 AM unless in the dorms which are purposefully very quiet. Otherwise, staff were wonderful, everything was close by and the place was clean

Very social hostel, tons of travellers and the staff was really cool and helpful.

If you are looking for a social hostel close to good night life this is the place. The only things id say are drawback are the obvious ones that come with staying at a hostel like this )people loud coming into rooms late sometimes, sometimes leave a mess on the way). Also bag area in rooms is not ideal, and light from the pod next to yours shines into yours. All that being said this is the most fun hostel I’ve been at in tokyo, and will probs stay here again next time I am in town

loved my time here. good clean comfy beds and great showers. downstairs having a bar and karaoke is great for meeting people. One thing that wasn't great was the pod next door didn't turn light off so the light creeps over, you need and eye mask if you are sensitive to light

If I could give this place a 20/10 I would, best hostel in Tokyo hands down! Great breakfast place downstairs too super upbeat lively atmosphere and extremely clean. Doesn’t get any better than this place right here folks.
