Live Free Hostel

No culture. Absolutely none. The cafe Downstairs stinks because of the loo. Also nothing happens on the terrace. What is the use of the location if not exposed to the views. A lot of restrictions and rules. Would recommend mainly for people who like a hotel setup rather for a hostel where the charm lies in having conversations with strangers.

I stayed here as everything else was booked. The location is great! Just a short walk to the Dalai Lama temple. When I checked in from my long bus they prepared an omelette for me, then delivered it to my room. The staff are super nice, but most of them don't speak English. I loved the female dorm, super clean and comfortable with a doorbell so no random staff or guests can walk in...The only negative is there is NO social vibe. I felt like I was the only backpacker there.

Cons: it's too cold at night/morning for some so hostel details should disclose that only portable heating is available, with a fee. Staff forgot to provide room key at check-in. Getting to both the main streets and back to hostel requires traversing significant steep uphill routes; I'm in decent shape and still found it quite tiring so might be too tough for some. Pros: room/facilities were clean, views and space as advertised, proximity to main attractions very convenient, great value overall.

Nicely situated near the Dalai Lama Temple and the associated town. Good food in the cafe. Just be prepared that there's no heating.

I stayed in the deluxe private room and it was incredible! I had my own balcony overlooking the mountains which was so nice to chill out, read a book, have a cup of tea (the room had its own kettle which was also amazing for a hostel room!) and watch the sunset & rise. The bed was honestly the comfiest bed I’ve slept in in years!! I fell asleep with ease. Very clean with nice hot showers. The location is also great. Very friendly & helpful staff with great communication. Thank you!

Live Free Hostel is a fantastic place to stay! The staff is incredibly friendly and always ready to help. The atmosphere is lively and social, making it perfect for meeting fellow travelers. The rooms are clean, and the location is ideal for exploring. Highly recommend for a great stay!

Super nice staff, nice and clean room, lots of privacy and just a nice experience. I arrived very early and they were very accommodating so that was really nice 🙏Close to everything and Dalai Lama temple just up the street. Highly recommend this hostel 💖

Very clean, spacious, modern, tile floors. Mixed dorms on ground or first floor, with ceiling fan, cleaned daily, female dorm on fourth. Easy walk to Dali Lama temple, market, restaurants, street shops, taxi. Rooftop terrace with good views, restaurant, on fifth floor. Ground floor patio hangout too. Friendly, helpful staff. (After check-in, take hostel back door exit to save walking uphill.) House dog. Less than 2 yrs old .Great value. Stay here!

lovely hostel. just down the hill to McLeod cablecar station and lovely duvets to keep you warm. I had a great sleep every night of my stay. The staff were very helpful too!

Stayed for 3 nights, and this was the best sleep I've gotten in all of my 1-month India trip so far! Hostel is very close to the main temple complex and the main shopping centers, but very peaceful and quiet. Breathtaking views from my room's balcony and excellent value for money. Avtar was super helpful, he helped with accomadating a few last minutes changes, and always suggeste the best restaurants/things to do when we met. Only feedback is that is that there wasn't a lot of a "social" atmos...

Had an Excellent stay experience over the weekend. Mr. Avatar is a very hospitable person and even the rest of the staff were nice and approachable Great view, great location, awesome food, full value for money Most importantly, superbly neat and tidy
