The Surf Hostel Weligama

Cleanliness was to be desired, the room smelled of bleach for 3 days and somehow still felt dirty. Ant infestation. I had the single room with private bathroom, and the common bathroom has a communicating airway/Window so I could hear everything going on in the common bathroom in the from my room. Hostel is near a club... for those that want to party, this it the place to be.

Nicht zu empfehlen! Es war dort sehr dreckig, die Badezimmer stanken nach Urin und wurden nie sauber gemacht! Die Einrichtung ist generell sehr alt und ranzig. Bei meinem Aufenthalt waren dort zwei Typen, die permanent betrunken waren und dort ihre eigene Party feierten, zum Nachteil von anderen. Mein Essen wurde geklaut und in der Küche wimmelte es von Ameisen und anderen Tieren. Generell wurde sehr viel getrunken und gefeiert bis nachts. Leider nicht zu empfehlen! Es gibt bessere Hostels !

Sadly this was a very disappointing hostel for us. I very rarely leave bad reviews. Pictures were extremely inaccurate. There were a couple of reps desperately trying to keep this place alive but it had rubbish everywhere and the whole place needs a lot of cleaning. Location was good and that’s about it

Didn’t have a great experience here. The first dorm room I was in there was only one shared bathroom/shower between multiple dorm rooms, which was a hassle as it was constantly occupied. The toilet facilities were quite dirty and there was no soap for washing hands. I had to change room on my second night and after three hours from 2pm the room was still wasn’t ready. Then when I eventually got back to the hostel at night they double booked my bed. Wouldn’t recommend staying here at all...

Social hostel with activities every day. However, one bathroom per floor in poor condition - shower floor is grimey and has no door so the water soaked the floor. Only one plug socket per room, however there is an extension with additional adapters

We never leave bad reviews but this is needed. But first the positives. Location is good, staff are nice, volunteers were great! Large place, and beds are comfy. Now for the other parts. This place is extremely dirty. And we don’t mind rustic or edgy, but this place was just Dirty. All the seats and couches are stained black, the bathroom is filthy. Really lively, definitely a party hostel - loud music late and lots of young people drinking. If you want a chill, wholesome vibe this isn't it. The crowd can be a bit cliquey, so not the easiest for solo travellers. The room was fine, but one shared bathroom for six women wasn’t ideal. Wi-Fi worked well, bed curtains were great, and the location is central. It would be nice to have more workspaces and more wholesome activities when I was there, like breakfast, yoga, coffee mornings etc.

There were several things that we didn't like about this hostel - Partys: There are loud Partys everynight. The music ist extremly loud until 1am. As they left (I assume to another party) they left the hostel door open. We couldn't lock our bed dorm room and the hostel door was also open. There was no staff and no security. So we felt really scared the whole night bc everyone could just go inside! - the Volunteers are nice but it seems like there is no real stuff - its very dirty and stinky

Got a private room right off of the main entrance and social area. There seems to be no staff working there or readily available ever so we had to wait awhile to check in. There is no bar or restaurant here. The description says quiet hours are from 11-7 but we had music blasting outside our door until 2am when we finally couldn’t take it anymore. Rooms are old and dirty, blankets are tiny and thin, showers don’t get hot. Come here to socialize, but sleep somewhere else honestly.

Social hostel with a lot of activities! The partnership with the surfschool and others hostels is nice! The rooms are not the best tho

Great people! A social but not crazy party hostel, I met the best people here. The hostel organized a sunset hike, sunrise hike, trip to the lake and safari for us. They also helped us call a tuk tuk to Polonnaurwa. I was solo traveling here and met people I continued to travel with after my stay. Awesome atmosphere! At night, it’s so hot it can be hard to sleep, and there’s no hand soap in the bathrooms, so I didn’t love the facilities. The pool was a nice space but the water looked a bit...

Very social and friendly hostel, staff were lovely and there were loads of events organised but the rooms were small and there was no lock on the room door and we had no running water one day for any showers, sinks or toilets

Very nice hostel. Everything is clean and the staff are very friendly. There are organized activities every day, so it's easy to meet other people. There's also a communal dinner on some days, which is also very tasty.

This hostel was amazing! The volunteer Jenna was amazing, she checked me in and explained me everything very well. She made my experience way better. Very clean hostel and good beds. Social hostel and a lot is going on! I am coming back!

This place got amazing vibes great people running the hostel from the staff who are kind and attentive, the volunteers make sure everyone is having the best time brining social vibes and making everyone feel included. A special shout out to Vito who I met on my first day there and became a true brother, he was great at the job brought the vibes with his amazing personality and karaoke skills! Nice hostel in a great location. The staff were kind, even though I didn’t interact with them much. It’s a very social place, perfect for meeting people. There was a small issue with bugs on the first day, but they changed everything quickly and it was fine after. Overall, a good stay—I’d recommend it.
