Safestay York Micklegate

My bed was infested with bedbugs as well as crumbs of bread from previous visitors. This was an extremely disappointing stay as the reviews of this hostel gave me high hopes but seeing the lack of care put into cleaning and how much I paid to stay here is saddening. My travels are now cut short in figuring out how to get home to sanitize all my belongings from the bed bugs. Would not reccomend to anyone. Additionally I am disabled and use a mobility aide. Despite seeing this they placed me on the top floor requiring me to climb up three flights of stairs.

It's a great hostel. I did have the misfortune of sharing a room with someone who went into the bathroom at around 6:30 am, and kept the shower running for the entire 40 plus minutes he was inside. When he came out, he said he had got up early to use the bathroom! I pointed out that if everyone took as long as he did, it would take over 3 hours before the last person in our room could use the bathroom!! I did ask him to be more considerate next time, but I don't think he knew what that word means!!! The staff were helpful and friendly. I had no issues. One Australian girl was complaining of being bitten by bed bugs when I was in reception on my second day and staff were polite, but I should have told the girl she was dreaming. I think she had an unrelated travel rash and just convinced herself it was bedbugs. The beds and sheets were very clean. I particularly liked the curtains around the beds. They are very good for personal privacy in shared rooms.

Bed bugs. Stay here if you want to sleep on a soiled mattress and overhear the staff talking negatively about you for requesting new sheets. The young woman who works there is kind and helpful, the men couldn’t care less. Very rude and unprofessional

Bed bugs, no hot water, poor WiFi, smelly/messy rooms, no social distancing (even before 19th July), and no air-con/fans/circulation.
