Mad Monkey Hoi An

I hate having to leave a bad review about mad monkey cause it’s my fav hostels but this is more of a warning. There ARE bed bugs at this hostel and the staff genuinely don’t care. I got bitten loads and so did my friends. The staff are aware and are still checking people into the bed bug infested rooms. It’s also really dirty in general. Hairs/dust and grime everywhere around the beds/bed frames. It’s no wonder there are bed bugs. The reps are amazing and the atmosphere is great tho.

When we arrived we could not check-in to room till 6pm, because they had to ‘deepclean’…. After one night of sleeping we saw bedbugs in our bed, so in the middle of the night we had to move to a different hotel. They helped us with the laundry, but we only got a refund for the money that they receive from Hostelworld, so not a full refund of what we paid. Would not recommend!!!!!

Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally escalate a serious complaint regarding my recent stay at Mad Monkey Hostel in Hoi An. I chose your hostel with the expectation of a safe, hygienic, and well-managed environment. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing and fell significantly below the basic standards expected from an internationally recognized hostel brand. During my stay, I encountered the following major issues: 1. Broken Locker / Security Concern Upon check-in, I discovered that the locking system in my assigned bed locker was broken. I immediately reported the issue to reception and was assured that it would be fixed “as soon as possible.” Despite this assurance, the issue remained unresolved throughout the day. Later in the evening, I was informed that nothing could be done and that I could leave my valuables at reception instead. This is clearly not an appropriate or secure solution for a paying guest. As a result, I was forced to hand over my valuables to a friend staying in the hostel in order to safeguard them. 2. Bed Bug Infestation and Unhygienic Conditions During the night, I discovered that my bed had bed bugs, making it impossible for me to sleep. I immediately reported this to reception. The only action taken was a bedsheet change, accompanied by a promise that my bed would be changed the following day. However, when I approached reception the next morning, I was informed that the hostel was fully booked and that no alternative bed could be provided. The only solution offered was to check out with a refund for the second night. This response is extremely concerning. Bed bugs represent a serious hygiene and health issue, and the inability to provide a safe and clean sleeping environment reflects poorly on the hostel’s operational standards. Additionally, when I requested to speak with the manager regarding this matter, I was informed that I would have to wait until the evening for her arrival. This lack of immediate escalation support further added to the inconvenience. I have attached photographic evidence of the issues mentioned above for your reference. Given the seriousness of these concerns — particularly the hygiene issue and the lack of timely resolution — I request that this matter be reviewed by senior management and that an appropriate resolution be provided. I trust that your organization values guest safety and reputation, and therefore will address this complaint promptly and responsibly. If this matter is not addressed satisfactorily, I will have no option but to escalate the issue further through formal review platforms and relevant consumer channels to ensure other travelers are aware of this experience. My locker was broken, bed bugs in the night and Staff was helpless

There was bedbugs in the room, the staff gave us a new room ´but this is still not okay, there we some others in the room but the staff did not inform them about this. My phone got stolen and the staff was not helpfull at all. Usually at bigger places people at least say I will check with my collegues etc but they really did not care. And I know its not their responisiblity but I still found it a bit rude.

Franchement rien à reprocher, tout est propre et hyper spacieux. Il y a même Netflix au coin chill. En revanche faites attention quand vous regardez la télé, je crois qu’il y a des punaises de lits dans le tapis (qui n’est jamais nettoyé) et dans les coussins. A part tout était très bien.
