   I have traveled for many years, have stayed in countless hostels, and I'm not sure how this hostel has such a high rating. It's not terrible, but it's definitely not a 4/5 star hostel in my opinion. Maybe they were giving free beer for 5 star reviews 🤣 I'd say it's fine for a cheap 1-2 night stay. I never express a bad opinion, only honest opinions with my reviews. There were multiple people during my stay that I heard with complaints, one lady even left before her reservation dates were finished because the elevator engine was too loud next to her room. Would I stay here again? No. Would I recommend this hostel? No. Do I wish the best for this hostel and hope they can improve on their faults? Yes! Goodluck Mama Hostel. CONS: - Tiny rooms (I stayed in room either 601 or 602, I forget, and this is the smallest hostel room I've ever stayed in. You can't keep big backpacks in the room, you can't walk two people at a time, it's very very cramped. People were leaving their big bags in the lobby and using the small lobby to organize all their stuff.) I'm not a big guy so I'm sure for a bigger person these rooms and beds can be quite uncomfortable. - Small cubby beds (I move around when I sleep and I would constantly knock on the dividing walls on both sides of me, probably causing annoyance to my sleeping neighbors. I felt bad.) - Awkward ladders to get on the top bunks. I'm an athlete and even for me it was always awkward and uncomfortable getting up and down the ladder. - Aircon in the room wasn't working the week that I arrived. The room was hot and stuffy. (Uncle came in the room multiple times to try and fix it, but with no solution. He ended up fixing the fan setting on the Aircon, but with no cold air.) - Hot water wasn't working one out of the two days that I stayed. - Bathroom and sink area is quite small. - The lock was broken on the door to my room so anyone can enter freely. - Only one shared toilet for about 12 people per floor. - Elevator engine is loud if you're staying on floor 2. PROS: - Nice staff - Good free breakfast - Swimming pool (small and dirty) - Clean bathrooms - Strong water pressure (be careful, the bum gun will rip you a new hole) - Quiet - Location, near old town and Hoan Kiem Lake - Affordable

   Here’s a balanced review version: Mama’s Hostel was fine for a short stopover before a flight, and the staff were super friendly. Breakfast was a nice added touch, although quite small. The main downside was the four-bed dorm, it felt very cramped, with barely any space to walk or open a suitcase. I didn’t get to check out the rooftop, but compared with other hostels I stayed at, the room felt much less spacious.

   Beware: Reviews of this hostel on Google seem to be partly fake (stock photos, not rating the hostel but some tour they try to sell, etc.). You get a room in which you can barely stand in or put your backpack in. The beds are arranged in a capsule style of way. Breakfast area is too small, making people stand. There are signs about penalties at many places, leaving a bad feeling. No free activities such as city tours offered, as others in Hanoi do. No real backpacking hostel vibes.

   Apparently there's many fake reviews around here: most of them 5 star reviews in Vietnamese from users not having rated many other places. In fact, they are not rating the hostel but some tour the hostel is trying to sell and use stock photos for it. About the hostel: it gets the job done but that's actually about it. You get a room in which you can barely stand in or put your backpack in. The beds are arranged in a capsule style of way. The facilities do their job. There's breakfast, which is fine, but the area is too small, making people stand eating their breakfast. Staff is nice. The pool is not to talk about. There are signs about penalties at many places, leaving a bad feeling. No free activities such as city tours offered, as other hostels in Hanoi do. No real backpacking hostel vibes. I would probably rate it better if it felt like they were honest with their ratings.
