California Surf Waiao Beach House

Really lovely owners, the location is great and there are lots of activities to do. The cleanliness is not good though, I got covered in bed bug bites during my stay, which was confirmed at another accom. I have bites that have turned into painful bruises on my legs after my stay, the dorms and bathrooms are in desperate need of a good clean, the beds were very uncomfortable too.

I stayed here some time ago and was initially quite happy – the location is great, right by the sea and next to a train stop, with a lovely view from the terrace. The price is affordable, and the staff was very friendly. However, I cannot recommend staying here due to a serious hygiene issue: I got bitten by bed bugs during my one-night stay. At first, I thought it was mosquito bites, but after continued itching and confirmation at my next accommodation, it turned out to be bed bugs. The bites were extensive and uncomfortable, and dealing with this while continuing my travels was a real burden. The room also smelled musty and didn’t feel very clean overall. This place has great potential, but it urgently needs proper cleaning and pest control before I could recommend it to anyone.
