The elevator doesn't work properly. The room smells like feces. It's not a proper hostel. The reviews are fake. They pressure you to send a review and give bad service if you don't give a good review. They offered to store my bag, but because I didn't give a review I felt like things might get stolen. I feel bad for some of the staff. I wonder how many fake reviews they're going to have to make to fix this one.
The pokiest tiny room lve ever stayed in. Location is good & that’s about it. But thats Hong Kong! There is no value for money for accomodation.
It is like a horror movie.
Don’t stay here. I’ve been in at least three hundred hostels, this is the worst one. Where to start? Tiny rooms, no privacy, disgusting bathrooms, never clean, no toilet paper, no soap, no hot water. Cockroaches and other bugs. Oh, and the manager is one of those people who’s permanently in a bad mood, doesn’t try to help when your things go missing via the cleaning staff (who seem nice enough). I don’t think I’ve ever written a bad review before…but only stay here if your alternat...
挂羊头卖狗肉,网上订时看到的环境啥的都挺好,实际上去了给你安排的房子,根本不是网上看的那样,脏乱差,房子小的不行,除了架子床和半米的过道没啥了,架子床二层碰头,空调根本不凉快
I am a 17 solo female traveller. Getting into the building was intimidating as a lot of unsavoury men hang around the entrance of the multi purpose building. The hostel ignored each attempt I tried to amend my dates, even though I was within the time allowed, so ended up paying for 3 extra nights. I had a single en-suite room. The bed and bedding were soiled and dirty. The shower was over the toilet and completely unusable. Avoid at all vists
Not convenient to get to room have to go up crowded elevator that usually has line. As a woman the building does not feel very safe. My room didn’t have a window. Also, sheets and towels were covered in hair that was not mine. It was fine for 2 nights but i did not feel good about staying there and i wouldn’t return.
Not that nice at all. I wish I booked someplace else.
Wouldn’t recommend. The location is horrendous, took us ages to find it. It’s on one of the busiest roads in HK and the mansion isn’t nice, you have people shoving flyers in your face and trying to sell you stuff. The rooms are tiny. Like no room for moving tiny. Shower is over the toilet. The only saving grace is that the staff were lovely
This was one of the worst hostels I’ve ever stayed in! Only saving grace was that the staff are lovely. Was put in a room that instead of bunk beds had three normal beds squished in and two so close they were almost like a double bed. I felt very uncomfortable sharing this ‘double bed’ situation with a man but the hostel refused to give me a refund even though I said they could keep deposit and first nights pay so ended up having to stay. Crazy overpriced for what it is, but you can’t fi...

Loved it! I’ve always wanted to stay at Chungking Mansions and the Ashoka was great. It’s a bit of a crazy mad environment downstairs but everyone was friendly and I felt very safe (travelling on my own). The price for the location is tip top! Thank you.
difficult to access, on the 16th floor and only a tiny elevator to get up. there was often a line for the elevator. bathroom was teeny, would have preferred shared showers

For this bargain price you are probably questioning quality: Plus points - friendly, helpful staff - comfortable, clean bed with good pillows - excellent air conditioning - hot water and decent shower Points worth knowing - we had a late-night arrival and the entrance to the large building where the hostel is located felt a bit dodgy. It feels very different during the day when all the shops are open.
The cheapest hostel I could find in HK which is why I booked it. I still think it’s pricey but decent in comparison to everything else. Staff were very nice and helpful. The room and bathroom is TINY! If you can afford, I would definitely recommend the private. But again, being the cheapest place I could find, everything was okay. Great location, super easy to get to the metro stations. If you just want a place to sleep, then this is perfect.
Bons points: Tres bien situé. Chambre propre, matelas confortable.
Good points: Very well located. Clean room, comfortable mattresses. Very helpful staff upstairs. Bad points: rooms scattered on the floors so zero ambience and no sense of security. The history of the building can scare many. Unfortunately, the pillows smelled damp. Good value for money for Hong Kong.
This building, Chungking Mansions, is infamous and rather surreal. But my Hong Kong friends said it has been cleaned up a lot, and I felt fine there. Just ignore the salesmen on the ground floor trying to sell you a cheaper room, and all should be fine. Also great Indian food on the ground floor! Ashoka hostel itself is clean and safe (private room). Only complaint is that they pressured me to show them the app I booked on and review them right when I was checking out. Don't be pushy like tha...
Nice location, small but clean rooms. Very nice staff ! Highly recommend it.
excellent place to stay. right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of HK. not much outside noise at all. slept like a baby. staff were very pleasant and on the ground floor, everything you need is availabe at cheap prices. Only criticism is that it needs more signs to tell you where the hostel is. other than that all good. so 9.9/10
This is overall not a bad accommodation. It is a budget hotel/hostel, but it is extremely convenient, as it is right by Tsim Tsa Tsu Station and places to shop and eat. Staff are nice. Not bad for a short stay. Just don’t expect a lot when you’re paying far less than what you would for other places nearby.
I used this as a place to put my bag down, explore the city, nap and shower before my flight in the early AM. They had 24/7 reception which was helpful, but this is definitely not a social hostel. It feels a bit like a motel, but it served it's purpose for one night. They upgraded me to a private for the night which was nice and definitely improved the experience. You need to go through a busy market to take the elevator to this hostel. Good for the money and one night but I wouldn't stay longer
For having rented a bed in a room for 2 people : in accordance with the description, ideal location in Hong Kong, good value for money. I recommend spending 1 or 2 nights there and if you do not plan to spend a whole day in the hostel. black point however : the elevator leading you to the hostel (13th floor) which on some time slots can be quickly full.
Price is ok because the location is 5 minutes walking to Victoria Harbor, but I dont recomend for women travelling alone. The staff very nice
Die Lange ist sehr gut. Nettes Personal und billig leider nicht so sozial
Nettes Personal and cheap leader not so social
Elevator situation was funny and unusual as others mentioned, but whole building was weird. Surprisingly comfortsble beds! Though room was very small. Staff mostly friendly, helped us book another couple nights here without any upcharging and stored luggage pretty securely, let us check out a bit late for free when we had a late night.
Very nice guy, cheap hostel! I even got a little upgrade as I was chatting about my terrible flights. Very friendly and much appreciated. Its a bit dodgy, to get there you have to enter an outdated, crowded place with many many vendors. The elevator experience was kind of funny experience in my opinion, but thats personal I guess. It's very cheap so thats fine, would go here again!
Great experience and after staying at Day and Night Hostel and being put off two days in a row by the lazy workers there who wouldnt let me pay them for an extra day I found the staff at Ashoka very kind and attentive. The accomodations at this price are all very small in HK, but people who enjoy what they are doing make the experience very special.

Perfect location to explore Hong Kong, close to the metro station and good links to the airport and other main attractions. Walking distance to the harbour and ladies market. The room is very small, but does the job as a place to wash and sleep, you wouldn’t want to stay in it to relax though. A little confusing to find at first but it’s in a building called chunking mansions. Would stay again for the location.
