Chelsea International Hostel

My bed was in the dorm's entrance (literally, my feet were in front of the door). The room's door had huge cracks that let the wind and cold from the outside rush in. No proper heating in the room, no vents, uncomfortable beds, very small bed sheets, wall sockets in weird places (not one for every bed), no shoe rack or door mat to put our snowy shoes on, so the floor was cold and slippery. Bathroom was musty, old, moldy. Not even a single hook in the room or bathroom to hang our wet towels on.

Very uncomfortable mattress!! Extremely noisy!!! My room faced the street and the window had no insulation. My lavatory to although across from my room in was always occupied because it was also near the community room.

I experienced rude and highly unfriendly staff The room cannot get safely locked The window did not seal and let cold air in, waisting energy The blind was broken The staffs urge to make additional money with the $5 locker rental, annoying I had no problems with the bare minimum accommodation but the price can't be justified. A very sad overall experience.

The dirtiest hostel I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve stayed in a few. The shower and bathroom were not pictured for a reason. Both were extremely small, dirty, the doors had cracks in them. The water was either scalding hot or ice cold. The stairs are very steep with no elevator. A friend of mine had a rat in her room. No way to control air temperature. Blinds on window wouldn’t close all the way and we felt uncomfortable having to change in our own room.

No hot water for take a shower

The building is in very poor condition and very unsafe, rooms are extremely small and there’s no elevator, there’s one guy at the reception that is extremely rude. I would not recommend to anyone to stay here.

NO HOT WATER, had to wait 20 minutes each time — issue never fixed despite informing the STAFF. INTERNET not working in the room, only in the stairs — STAFF didn’t care or offer any solution. STAFF was rude, unhelpful, and unprofessional. We do not recommend at all. Extremely overpriced for such POOR SERVICE. They refused the little compensation we asked to have free storage after check out. Hilarious.

It's like staying in a prison. Facilities are clean but beds uncomfortable, rooms are very loud all night incl strange noises from the radiators

It looks like a cell jail. The shower in the shared bathroom was rusty and the water was cold. The very bare minimum for a hostel is to provide some soap, but there wasn’t any. If you want to leave your luggage for the day, you have to pay 5$ + purchase a locker for 10$. It’s scandalous that they can’t even rent you one. The staff wasn’t friendly. In conclusion, even if it was cheaper it would still be too expensive for what it is.

The building I stayed in smelled a lot like dirty cat litter. Yikes. Lots and lots of loud street noise despite the A/C unit fan running all night. Super tiny bed, not for anyone over 5’6” tall.

Manhattan for $60/night, clean and in a great neighborhood, and a friendly staff. No nonsense, not a "social hostel", but that's fine. A safe and clean place! I would have preferred bunk beds for the ability to have a touch more privacy, but this is THE place to stay for budget solo travelers for sure.

The facility was very clean, a very good value and conveniently located to public transit. I wish early check-in was possibly as I was not feeling well when I arrived in the morning and very much wanted to lay down even for 20 minutes. I was able to leave my backpack for a $5 fee so that I could explore NYC until I could check-in, which was helpful. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you.

Amazing location, amazing value. Definitely bare bones but perfect for those of us who simply want a comfortable night’s sleep and a clean place to wash up. I chose a private single and loved the Chelsea location and the privacy.

Cozy, comfortable stay. Private room had plenty of storage and was quiet enough for a good night's sleep (or a midday nap). Never a line for the bathroom or shower. Facilities were clean. Wifi was good. Only issue was TVs in the common area appeared to be broken/unusable. And I wish there were a small shelf in the shower so I didn't have to reach all the way down to the floor to pick up my soap/shampoo.

Great place to stay! Clean well maintained and best location. Worth every penny!

Fantastic bargain for the buck. Clean, efficient. It’s in an older building so you definitely get the Chelsea vibe. Extremely well-maintained, cleaning people out there several times a day. Front office staff are helpful and welcoming. There is some street noise, but, I use a White Noise app and there is a window AC so I didn’t hear it. Great location. Everything else was just ok but it can be overlooked as the location was 10/10.

Doors for rooms aren’t an automatically lock, so if someone in your room doesn’t lock it, all your things can be taken and people staying at the hostel can enter. Ants all in the room and in the bed, outlets aren’t secure to the wall and just consistently drop your charger plug due to that. No privacy in rooms or seperate lamps so it’s either full light or no light. otherwise location is good, trains are a 4 minute walk.

Had a really wonderful stay. The room was very clean, staff were super kind and accommodating. Location was perfect, super close to everything you need.

Okay if you just want a bed. very small room , tiny tiny. not really a hostel more so a 1* hotel, no vibe if youre solo wanting to make friends. I was put into the other building. Location Is good to walk to stuff; staff clean daily. front desk didnt do much to welcome or instruct me on anything; felt safe enough but not a hostel experience at all. would rather pay a bit more and get a nicer hotel as was pretty expensive for what it was. I was really warm which was good as it was freezing

This is around my 4th or fifth time staying at the hostel it's a great location the police station is across the street so overall it's safe great restaurants around the hostel. Hands down it is clean the cleaning people and check in staff are so welcoming. restrooms and showers overall are clean the one thing I would say is needs new blinds Would recommend train is 3 blocks aeay on 23rd st or 2 blocks on 18th st very convenient took about 1 hour to get to LGA from the E train. Great stay

The location is great! You can reach a lot of sights and restaurants by foot and it is well connected to the metro

One of my worst hostel experiences to date. Its a great location and the property has so much potential but it feels like they want the have a low touch maximise profit setup. I stayed in a single room and my matrass fell like it was collapsing where you feel the springs. Its very basic which is ok but it feels a bit like a prison.

It was a decent room in a good area, and it did the job for my trip. However, there is no air conditioning available in April, and the window did not open. It was 88 degrees F on the day I arrived and unbearably hot and stuffy in the room.

We stayed for one week. Nice hostel. Would definetly recommend.
