The Old House Hostel

I was disappointed, after reading many positive reviews I hoped that this would be one of the best hotels in my life. Immediately after checking in it turned out that in the window next to my bed does not work blind, the window was on the side of the street where at night drove a lot of cars, I reported it to the staff but the owner did nothing about it, also two nights were not slept. The first night there was also a concert under the hotel about which guests were not informed in any way.

Good: location, kitchen, common areas Bad: noise. One of the dorms doesn't have a door that closes and the other two have windows open to the front porch, so you'll be awake if anyone in the hostel is awake. Also the whole building shakes when someone walks through the living room. At other times, you will be woken up by loud motorcycles on the busy road it's on. And the downstairs bar that plays music like it's in your room, and has people talking loudly out front until 12:30 on days the bar i...

We arrived to a closet size room with a folding door and no lock. Lockers were available but the space was cramped. Communal living spaces were very dirty with lots of clutter. The night we came the bar underneath was open and the live music was very loud past 11 pm. The dive bar had a lot of people spilling out into the streets and calling out to pedestrians. The internal stair case went down into the bar and had no visible lock. There was one locked entry at least. Hipster grunge vibe.

Das Hostel is schön, mit großem Balkon und gut eingerichteter Küche. Sauber ist das Hostel auch. Negativ ist aufgefallen, dass auf den Balkon sowohl vor dem Haus als auch hinter dem Haus geraucht wurde. Das konnte man dann Abends im Dorm riechen - das ist sehr unangenehm. Auch unter Tags ist der Balkon die Hauptaufenhalts-Möglichkeit auch zum Essen etc. - ist etwas unangenehm wenn dann daneben einfach geraucht wird. (Meistens waren es Angestellte die geraucht haben nicht die Gäste)

I booked this hostel seeing the good reviews and yes it’s very social but it’s on the main road and it gets very loud in every room. I had trouble sleeping both the nights I stayed.

Staff is nice and the outside platform is chill, bud there are no curtains at the beds. The upper bed is even without protection fence besides the bed. There is a kitches so that’s nice too.

Interesting place, very laid back and is homey but very quiet.

property was quite dirty, the fans above the beds were beyond disgusting (probably never been cleaned) and the rooms were so hot that the fan was absolutely a must. There seemed to be a general lack of attention from the staff, for example the gallon of water in the kitchen was always empty (and very warm) and we were booked on the wrong shuttle date.

Loved the hostel and staff were incredibly helpful and beds were comfy. Only note is that the hostel is on a busy road and there's no ac so sleeping at night this time of year was a bit noisy and hot. The vibe of the hostel though makes up for it though, I would stay again just to hang out on the veranda

Only slight downfall is the lack of ac but there are individual fans for each bed so it wasn’t a dealbreaker. Other than that this place is awesome. Visit on a wednesday or friday night fir live music downstairs.

This is a quirky little place with a cool atmosphere. The beds are comfy and there are several showers with hot water. The kitchen is great and there is an amazing terrace with hammocks to chill. Beds are comfy with individual fans. Note: The bar downstairs has live music on two days, yet it was done by 10:30/11ish pm. Have a beer, join the crowd and enjoy.

Nice and clean hostel. ATM tours can be organized with them. The hostel was social due to the chill area. When I stayed there the temperatures outside were very high and the fan at the bed was not enough. I guess that's normally ok.

Good stay in San ignacio. Rooms aren't that big but ither than that it's a nice stay in a good location

A really nice “classic” hostel. Not too big, the spaces are clean, and the kitchen is excellent. The layout makes it very easy to meet other travelers. If you’re there on Wednesday or Friday, there’s live music in the bar below the hostel. The ATM cave tour with the hostel is also great. You leave early, so you’re one of the first groups to enter the cave, which means the water is still nice and clear.

One of the Best hostels I have ever been!! The house is super clean, many hangout spots which is perfect to socialize, close to town, nice owners who make you feel so welcome :)) I could go on and on, I had a Great Time

Das Hostel hat mir gut gefallen. Man konnte sich immer Kaffee machen. Zimmer waren etwas warm.

Nice and friendly owners. Great location, a few minutes away from the pedestrian street. Very cute terrace area. On the other hand, facilities can feel a bit run down and I'd say they have probably the worst ladder to climb up to the top bunk. Also, the main road of the country going from East to West goes right in front of the hostel, and it's uphill, so you're surrounded of a constant sound of engine revving

Really friendly and relaxed hostel. The staff are kind and helpful. I recommend the ATM tour offered by the hostel. The staff helped me figure out the cheapest way to get to my next destination. The rooms are clean and social. Loved staying here.

Place is phenomenal. Wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in San Ignacio

The only thing I didn’t like about this hostel was there was no curtains for privacy. And you have to take your shoes off at the door but understandable since a lot of people are doing the ATM tour and coming back drenched. Lovely cat. Even lovelier staff. Hammocks are a nice place to chill.

The staff is amazing, Thanks to Aldo & Davina. Perfect location, close to the center. Everyone is friendly, it feels like you rent a holiday house with a big group of friends. Space are super clean.

Nette Besitzer und schönes Haus. Mir fehlten etwas soziale Stimmung, Vorhänge an den Betten und eine schliessbare Tür zum dorm. Leider blieb immer ein Spat offen und jeder an der Rezeption konnte reinschauen. Auch die Katze fand ihren Weg einige Male auf meine Sachen. Gutes Tourangebot gibt es auch!

Staff super lovely and the pets are sweet. Just a lovely chill vibe here and even in the evening sometimes a jam session which is entertaining.

ein tolles Hostel, um auch länger dort zu bleiben! mittwochs und freitags hat die Bar unten geöffnet!

The hostel was nice overall, though the rooms could use some curtains and lockers. The deck on the back was perfect for relaxing and hanging out with other travelers. We literally could see so many birds, including two different types of toucans, as well as iguanas straight from the deck. There’s not a ton to do in San Ignacio without a car which some travelers found disappointing, and this is def not a party hostel, but we had a great time during our stay. The staff and owners are amazing als...

The staff was super helpful with any bookings or suggestions and loved the hostel pets!
