I booked here about 3,5 weeks ago. On the day of our arrival, we were then cancelled because of repairs in the room. We had been really looking forward to this stay because of the great reviews and were therefore very sad to book alternative accommodation. Unfortunately, we have still not received our deposit back despite repeated enquiries. Very poor communication.
Great hostel, especially for the price! Owner is super sweet and is basically like a Mom to her guests, she brings you to the bus and tells the driver where to drop you off. just be aware that it takes over an hour with the bus to and from Flores to the location. Also, I would suggest to not only have one female alone with an unknown male in a room, it made me a bit uncomfortable. I would have preferred a regular 4 people room instead of being alone with an unknown guy. Everything else great!
Stunning property in an amazing location! Ultimate place to stay if you want to disappear and chill out (there's not even a shop around!) Moya was really helpful in booking transfers and trips for us. The games round pool table was used a lot! The only downside for us was the internet didn't work very well, you couldn't connect sometimes for hours and other times you could fine. We googled it and said it was too many devices on the broadband. Also lots of ants in the kitchen!
Perfect place for some relaxed days… because there is seriously NOTHING to do. Also bring enough food because the next supermarket is a 20 min walk away. It’s run by a lovely old lady who is sometimes hard to find so it’s possible not to check in right in time of arrival. But the area for the lake/ entrance and the hammocks in the water is amazing. It’s not possible to lock the dorms or your stuff in lockers in the room so security wise not 100% (but it’s remote anyways)
Incredible host! She made sure everyone had everything they needed and was always there to help or have a little chat. The accommodation is unbelievable beautiful and big. I went kayaking at 6 in the morning and it was one of the best experiences in my trip yet. The only thing you have to know: there’s no good store or restaurant nearby so make sure you bring your own food! (In the evening you can order pizzas & in the morning you can order breakfast at the hostel). I’m definitely coming bac...
Good hostel. Lovely host. Not much to do in the neigbourhood. Bring enough cash and food. No big supermarkt nearby
We loved our stayed at Gucumatz - a perfect place to relax, with lots of nooks for reading and swimming. The lakeside is beautiful, we swam everyday and borrowed kayaks (for free) to explore further. Getting there is easy from the bus station in Santa Elena (next to Flores). The bus stops right outside, so you can't miss it and we were sent instructions before hand. Kitchen has all the utensils you need and lovely lakeside views while you eat, but be sure to bring all the food you need for y

Absolute aanrader!!
I had a great stay

Wonderful place to stay at the lake if you want to relax. Justin and his family made me feel like home. I can highly recommend you to stay with them for a few nights 😃
Superrr nice hostel! About an hour from Flores but you can take the chicken bus for 18Q. Right on the lake with the most beautiful views. They have breakfast and dinner if you don’t feel like cooking. The owner is a really great guy and they have a cute and friendly dog.
Staff were amazing, super helpful, you just keep on finding cool nooks and crannies in this place. Super relaxing, wish we had more time to stay longer! Very charming :)
Booked this after reading so many positive reviews and it didn’t disappoint! The lake is so beautiful and clear here, and the hotel is an ideal spot to relax and take it all in for a few days. The family are really lovely, and helped us organise transport to Tikal with some other guests for 125 quetzales each. Rooms are spacious and cleaned every day, and the guest kitchen was ideal - remember to bring some food from Flores. Really good value for money!
Beautiful place to stay, the owners are lovely and the view is amazing. Highly recommend!
I enjoyed my stay a lot! Very nice host, very lovely place at the lake, perfect facilities (kayaks, lots of places to hang out, good kitchen and a lovely bed).
Justin and the Gucumatz team was very accommodating and friendly. We were delayed in arriving and the property was able to push back our reservation one night without extra charge. The property itself was as beautiful as advertised with plenty to do. They were also more than happy to arrange transportation to Tikal, Flores or your next location (Belize for us). We brought our own food but delicious dinner was available for a fee. We would stay here again but was a bit out of the way.
Exceptional property with exceptional value. Very friendly and helpful staff. Although it’s a bit out of town, its lake front location and grounds are spectacular.
Couldn’t be more excited to review this place. We stayed for a few days and this place, other than the benefit of an extraordinarily beautiful waterfront and hillside, is run by an extremely kind and helpful family. Feels like you’re staying in their home with them, and we couldn’t recommend it more. Decent WiFi if you’re trying to work. Only downside was the kitchen to cook in wasn’t the best, but a minor downside to an overall great experience.
The best hostel we have been staying in so far !! We were supposed to stay 2 nights to rest and we ended up 4 nights because we didn't want to leave. The rooms are so cosy and comfortable. the place is calm and full of beautiful life like Monkees and colibris. you can swim in the lake and there is plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Breakfast was affordable and nice. Justin and his family welcomed us so warmly and were very helpful with everything. We recommend 100%
Amazing, beautiful little piece of paradise! Humming birds everywhere. Amazing swimming spot right in the sun, free kayaks to use too!! Really relaxing. Helpful and kind family owners. Comfy beds, doesn’t feel like a dorm. A little out the way so be prepared with food if you like to cook. A small town with basics a 30 min walk away. They can cook for you but it was a bit expensive for us at 100Q for dinner. All in all a fantastic stay.
Great hostel ! if you look for abeautiful accommodation right by the lake and a more authenthic experience this is the place to be. Moya is just lovely, we could use the kayak as we liked on this very quiet and beautiful part of the lake. Apart from the fact that it's a long way from Flores, everything was perfect.
Moya was the most attentive, helpful, welcoming and friendly host you will ever meet. We so enjoyed our stay here. Her beautiful house is right on the lake with lots of little nooks and areas for hanging out. So peaceful and quiet. There are cool trinkets, sculptures and art. Some handmade by family members. There's even ancient Mayan relics recovered from the lake. Endless entertainment including pool, ping pong, kayaks, books, games.. THOROUGHLY enjoyed! Thank you Moya 🙏 Till we meet again.
The most amazing hostel we,ve ever stayed at! A beautiful lakeside retreat where our travel aches and fatigue seemed to melt away - the perfect place to rest and re cooperate! You might be concerned about getting here, but the owner, Moya, told us everything we needed to know in advance and also arranged our Tikal visit and onward transport to Belize for us. We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the free paddle-boards and kayaks!
Had the best time staying with Moya in her lakeside paradise. So many places to sit and hang out. Games room with pool table and ping pong. Super quiet. Hummingbirds and monkeys around the property. 20minute walk to nearest shop. Moya was brilliant so welcoming and helpful. Could not recommend more for a relaxing few days/ even few weeks!
We had a lovely peaceful stay by the lake. Moya was a wonderful host & helped with tour to Tikal and onward travel. The property is gorgeous right on the lake. We knew it was remote when we booked and loved the peace and quiet. Just pick up groceries in Flores before getting to the Inn, as the nearest shop has limited selection and restaurant options are fairly limited.
