Hostal Casa Gaia

they have a huge sign in the lobby saying “Shuttles to Guatemala EVERYDAY” but it doesn’t run on weekends. Stuck in san Cristobal an extra 3 days because of this. The guy at the front desk told me the same thing happened to another guy last week. I mentioned they should take the sign down, I was told that actually the sign had been accurate 3 months ago. (?) Anyway they had a pretty garden, great location, and safe and clean. Staff/volunteers were a bit elusive

Hostel Casa Gaia feels more like a homestay. It’s clean, well-located, and has good facilities, plus an amazing free breakfast. We stayed in a private tent room in the garden, which was nice but quite small. You could hear everything from outside and I guess people outside could hear us too so it wasn’t very private.The downside for us was the atmosphere: if you’re looking for a place to chill and sleep, it’s perfect, but the vibe is pretty dead. Other than that, it’s a nice place!

Perfect location & the bed was comfortable however the rooms are dark, the showers are cold & the place has zero atmosphere. There was one German volunteer who was unapproachable & only talked to the other staff. I got the impression she was just using the hostel to live rather than do any actual work as she looked like sad furniture 90% of the time. I think she just needs to learn how to say hello/good morning or at least try to offer some service to the guests (the pure basics of a volunteer).

Leider wurden wir überbucht und mussten in ein kleineres Zimmer ausweichen. Ist auch anderen Gästen passiert die zeitgleich im Hostel war… scheint wohl ein gängiges Problem zu sein. Sonst alles top 👍🏼

Auberge très agréable et proche du centre. Nous étions dans une chambre privé, spacieuse et bien entretenue. La cuisine était bien équipée et propre.

Very nice, quiet hostel. Dorms were a bit cramped but overall great value.

Nice place with very good vibes! The owner and volunteers are also lovely. Only downside in my eyes is that one of the dorms is right next to the street, so it fets very loud from the traffic

Would recommend, very good location, staff were very helpful and very friendly. The private room was very spacious with a comfortable bed. The provided breakfast was good and varied and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The room, kitchen and bathrooms were kept clean.

Great hostal, all the people that work there are lovely and we slept really well in the private room out the back. Also enjoyed the "family dinner" as it was a good way to get to know people.

One of the best places I've stayed at! The guys at casa gaia are super friendly and the room was really comfortable and cozy. Also the breakfast was a highlight for me. It was the first time I've tried cayote and really liked it. Would definitely come again. 😊

Beautiful place! We didn’t get to spend as much time as we would have liked here but the atmosphere and rooms were great :)

Le personnel parle peu ou pas l'anglais. Même avec de charmants interlocuteurs, la conversation n'est pas toujours facile 😉

Absolutely loved this hostel, the beds are cozy and super comfortable! Breakfast is good and varied. The kitchen is amazing, nice pots and pans! Location is perfect. We had fun with the guitar and watched a movie on Netflix :)

Absolutely a 10. Should be the highest rated hostel in San Cristo. Amazing location, quiet at night but in a perfect spot for everything. Loads of vegan places nearby. The room was HUGE and spotless. The owners took great care of us when we got sick. Would have stayed longer if we could. Even had prime and Disney for when we were too sick to leave. Helped us organise great tours too.

lovely family and volunteer run hostel. very friendly and peaceful space. great location close to the centre and local restaurants and bars. all the staff are friendly and helpful for booking tours and onwards travel. chill vibes and not a party place. will come back again

Great little hostel not far away from the main part of town. Comfortable and clean with just enough character, this hostel was perfect for a few days. Would highly recommend!

Great location, friendly Daniel checked us in and we actually got our room early which was nice. The bathrooms were cleaned regularly, our private room was very spacious. We enjoyed playing the ping pong and sitting in the court yard. It's not a party hostel which is nice and tranquil.
