Mad Monkey Phnom Penh

I booked a private room expecting a clean and comfortable stay, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. The room did not feel properly cleaned, and I discovered bed bugs in the bed, which was extremely unpleasant. For a private room, basic cleanliness and hygiene should be guaranteed. This issue had a major impact on my stay and left me very disappointed.

ACHTUNG!!! Ich hatte Bettwanzen im Doppelzimmer! Ich bemerkte nach einer Nacht bestimmt 30 Bisse. Als ich damit zur Rezeption ging, wollte man erstmal Fotos sehen, ehe man mir glaubte. Der Zimmerservice wurde ins Zimmer geschickt, aber nicht richtig kommuniziert worum es geht. Das einzige was gemacht wurde ist die Bettwäsche gewechselt und alle Kissen etc. Auf meinen Sachen abgelegt. Als ich wieder runter zur Rezeption ging, wurde mir erst auf Nachfrage ein neues Zimmer angeboten. Auf die Nachfrage was nun mit meinem Koffer und Sachen sei wurde nicht eingegangen und ich kümmerte mich am nächsten Tag selbst um Wäsche etc. Und hoffe ich habe keine Bettwanze mitgenommen. Es geht nicht um die Tatsache, sondern um den Umgang mit solchen Problemen! Geht gar nicht! Ich dachte außerdem, dass das Hostel sozial wäre, aber die Musik wurde so laut aufgedreht, dass man niemanden verstanden hat! Ein einziges Sauf- und Partyhostel! Die Fenster sind so dünn, dass man das Gefühl hat man steht draußen.

Nice pool, good bar, good atmosphere and friendly staff. The rooms themselves could use some work. Bathrooms not the cleanest and switched beds twice due to bed bugs, the first time I switched rooms, the 2nd just beds. I did see them actually treating the area the 2nd time so that's good.

At check in we had to fill out a document and write down all our passport and visa information but right after that they scanned our passports. Made us wonder why they even made us do that. The free welcome drink is only available before 6pm. We arrived shortly before 6pm and were told that we could bring our bags to our room and then we could still get our free beer. But when we went to the bar, they refused us the drink. However, just getting a waiter to talk to us was difficult. He went past us multiple times even making eye contact but never speaking to us. We had to call him twice until he decided to finally talk to us. At first the dorm looked nice. But then we saw multiple living bugs inside the shower and even one 2 cm bug in the bed that was still alive. Also there's no elevator, so if you stay in an upper floor, prepare for the stairs. At first glance the hostel seems nice but our experience wasn't good at all.

This was the cheapest I had ever seen a Mad Monkey Hostel so I finally decided to book one. It was a great experience. The statt were all great, specially Malis and Sola gave great tours and were very friendly anytime I'd see them around the hostel after that. The vibe is great with tons of other travelers hanging out all day. However, I did find bed bugs on my last day. But the staff took it seriously, washed all my clothes and steamed my belongings, and even gave me a free meal after.

Mad monkeys are great for the social aspect however the hygiene and cleanliness of the rooms are awful, my room had bed bugs… The room was shut down and pest control came in, obviously it’s hard to keep on top of issues like this in such a big hostel so i don’t fault them it happens sometimes and it was dealt with very well, i got a full refund and they were very apologetic.

Good stay, I mostly stayed here because I heard the other place I was supposed to stay at had bed bugs. The hostel is nice, but I got sheets with black stains on them… The bed was comfortable and they have daily activities which is nice, a bit far away from the night market and the more lively streets

Staff was friendly, but rooms and bathroom were dirty. Also a lot of bed bugs in the rooms and they didnt do much about it

Had to move rooms as they found bed bugs in one of the beds in my room. Don’t think it was handled that well or that transparently. Food and drinks are overpriced with a service charge too. Drag show was a lot of fun.

I love madmonkey hostels, have stayed in 6 different madmonkey hostels and this one had the coziest and nicest common area and bar area out of them. Such a fun pub crawl and met so many nice people here. I left with some bites from here that looked like bedbug bites, but im not sure if it was from this hostel or previous one so im not gonna write a bad review. Staff checked my bed and room and found nothing so most likely not from here. Highly recommend staying here if you love a good party :)

Perfect place if you want to socialize while drinking. If not, wouldn’t recommend it. The day tour to the killing fields was good though. Think I catched bed bugs here so be sure to check your bed before sleeping in it.

Overall, it's a nice place with lots going on (tours, pool parties, beer tournaments, etc.) so it's easy to socialize with other travelers! My only issue was my room. I found two little cockroaches on my bed on two separate nights (not sure if that counts as bedbugs?) and then saw a few other cockroaches in the bathroom. Reception let me sleep in another room, which seemed to be in much better condition. I had a great time, but unfortunately I wasn't left with the greatest impression.
