Barefoot Backpackers Hostel, Ahangama Beach

Worst hostel ever!!! I booked a room, paid 8€, got a confirmation and when I arrived they didn’t have a bed. They wanted more money. I wasted a lot of money and peace for this Hostel. That’s illegal

Booked dorms through their site, got an email about a Christmas deposit to hold the dorms. Paid that within timeframe and messaged back and forth with owner on WhatsApp confirming deposit. I come to the hostel on the day of and receptionist says my booking was cancelled. No apologies, no trying to make the situation better, just that it’s cancelled. rough experience. had to find another spot to stay at last minute..

Classic example of a business that delivers what makes money and doesn't care about empathy. They have untrained dogs that almost attacked me twice. The staff's response? Oh yeah they do this cuz you're brown and they think you're an intruder (although I was very much staying inside the hostel) Another unacceptable standard - they say it's an a/c dorm but the aircons are off 7 hrs in the day (out of the 20hrs of the time you actually get to stay in). I had to cancel my booking at Barefoot Backpackers Hostel due to unforeseen circumstances. According to the stated cancellation policy, a fee applied, and the hostel chose to enforce this policy. While I understand that businesses operate based on their published terms and conditions, I personally would have appreciated a more flexible or accommodating response in my situation. We were unhappy with our stay at the hostel. We found the behaviour of the staff odd. The social vibe was strange, not on account of travellers but of the hosts in the hostel. We also felt there was a shortage of adequate toilet and showering facilities.

I was the only person in the hostel. They had two dogs that kept nipping at me and chewed up my shoe. The electricity went off for 3 hours and when I went to use the bathroom a staff member was blocking it (only guest). Otherwise location is good and staff were nice but don’t recommend.

It’s a partyhostel… there were some bugs… The staff was friendly overall.

the best part of the hostel BY FAR is the social hosts and the activities they organise and host and get everyone included in (shoutout lindsay + george). they really make barefoot a great place to stay :) however, i do find this hostel overpriced compared to others as the wifi didn’t work and the ac was on v limited hours and when it was on leaked and sprayed water into the dorm.

So I previously stayed at the other Barefoot location, which I felt like was a lot nicer, the beds had curtains, and the upper bunks have stairs instead of ladder. This hostel brands itself as the social hostel and they do a really good job of that. There's a lot of organized activities and they put a lot of effort into making sure there is stuff to do, and there's also a WhatsApp group. Best hostel I’ve stayed at! Such a social atmosphere with activities everyday, delicious family dinners and really great staff. It’s only for solo backpackers so it’s really easy to meet other travellers. I love the property, the location is amazing and I felt so welcomed and included right away!!! Highly recommend to stay here

stayed at my 2nd barefoot and i must say the place is A vibe ! big shout out to George the aussie, was A legand and i reckon he'll make a mad social host ! loved the swedish lass too who ran the place as well kept forgetting her name. only CON id say aboutabout barefoot is the sorta lightsout at 11pm and go to bed. no common area or even right out the back you can quietly chill/ hangout which kind of sucks being sent to bed like children. but suppose the strict rules are there for a reason.
