I would not stay in this hostel again. You need to leave your food labeled in the kitchen, some of mine was stolen. When I arrived to do the check in, the staff did not give me a code to enter the property until they gave me an incorrect one. They gave me another code, worked for a couple of days and didn't work at 5:30 am on my last day. I called Hostelworld and they suggested I knocked until a person opened the door, which didn't happen. Eventually a staff member arrived 6 am and opened
They shut the power off from 10 pm to 8 am in the places where you have to walk inside the property, leaving only the Exit lights on, and close the access to the only and super small common area. They told us breakfast stars at 8 am but when it was time to open the common area (the only place to rest, watch tv, etc) the door was closed. Breakfast is only one pancake per person, coffe and juice and we had to wait until 8:30 because it wasn’t ready, and wash ourselves the dishes. Very disappoint...
Evidence of damp in the rooms and building, airconditioning outlets are directly at head level in the bunk beds so blow cold dry air on your face all night. The emergency exit light is very bright and directly above the bed. Overall a bad nights sleep and a recipe for catching a cold. If it were cheaper/cheapest hostel in the area that’s fine but it’s more expensive compared to other hostel/hotels there are in the north of the city.
Friendly, helpful employee 3 - 4 Nov 2022. Returned: Nov 7 - 8; At 8 am I tried to leave my bags (check-in 3 pm). Was told to place behind stairs in basement. When transferring items nearby from my heavy back pack to my luggage to lighten load for the day, I was told that I was not supposed to be over there. I explained what I was doing and that her objection was unreasonable. She got incensed, 'I was being disrepectful/entitled,' asked me to leave.
I don't typically give bad reviews, but this one particularly deserved it. They were kind enough to let me check in a bit early, but I had to come back during their check in hours to actually get my code for the hostel. This was just a very minor hiccup. The main problem was the facilities. The hostel says it has AC and it does, but each room had window units that were off and rooms were hot and stuffy. More like a hovel than a hostel. Secondly, the bugs in the mens showers - simply horrible.
Both hosts and guests were not really friendly, the space was cramped and chaotic, location could be better, and it was still more expensive than most hostels I've stayed in (~20) One group of what looked like frat boys woke me at 4am with loud sex in the next room, loud drunk conversation, and didn't stop after aske There is only 01 other hostel in DC, which I haven't been to but seemed to have lower reviews than this one (?) In general would just like to have seen a better cost benefit bala...
Showers are awkward to use since there is shared spaced where to change. The decorative art on the wall is full of pictures during the renovation of the building. Staff was ok. The free pancakes were ok. Something kept biting me in the middle of the night, maybe mosquitos.
Cold showers, minimal breakfast, LOUD quiet area.
Everyone in the staff was extremely nice. It was a bit run down though, like there was mold or something between the seat cushions in the outside sofa and the floor carpet felt a little moist for example. Pretty dark in general. Nice vibe though, everyone I met was super friendly.

Spent 6 nights here in June. Location is good. Just 2 blocks from the metro, which made it very easy to get around the city. And the fresh pancakes every morning were a great addition!
My second time here. Very quiet hostel. I choose it for location: near Eastern Market, beautiful neighborhoods and parks, organic food stores. It’s clean and safe, but maybe too quiet.
Staff was kind and helpful after a long night and morning of travel. Hostel was clean, chill and welcoming.
Great location, with proximity to the metro station and easily walkable to a ton of places like the Navy yards, the Capital, etc. Facilities are pretty basic and straightforward, so I feel like the price was a little steep for the value of the stay, but still nothing to complain about. Bedding and bathroom worked and I have no complaints! Check in staff was really chill and helpful too. Overall I would stay here again! BTW, if you need parking, I parked around the block on D Street - it's free!
A couple blocks walk from the metro and lots of restaurants and bars. Close to capitol hill and the mall. Great value considering the location. But you get what you pay for. The vibe wasn't great, not a great place to hang out, but perfectly fine as a place to crash and shower. It's an older building and it shows. Furnishings were serviceable and clean but dated and plain looking. Unfortunately no laundry and the laundromat is a 15 min bus trip away. I would consider Duo Nomad for future trip...
No cannabis allowed on the premises. There is a designated smoking area, but only for cigarettes. The best place to hang out is on the roof!
Staff were amazing and the facilities were great!

Thank you for everything! As a solo female traveller I was a little worried as all their dorms are coed... but they went above and beyond and not only they accommodated my request and placed me in a dorm with another female traveller but they gave me a free upgrade! Love the location and the pancakes were scrumptious!
Incredible stay! I definitely recommend it! The location is perfect and there's public transportation nearby! Super nice staff and they keep the place extra clean! Free pancakes for breakfast is the absolute cherry on top and they're delicious.
Location was perfect for me. Yes! Organic Market, Eastern Market, and Metro close. There was almost no one at the hostel- I rarely saw staff or guests. That was a bit strange, even for November. I felt safe, and the place was clean. There were a lot of signs everywhere saying “don’t do this” but not a lot of clear positive directions about HOW/WHAT to do. HEADS UP: Narrow, winding, rickety stairs to the second and third floors. If you’re not comfortable with this try to get a first f...
- there is no privacy in the bathrooms/whilst showering. I felt awkward changing in the as there is no where to hang items in the shower - an older crowd with men in their 60s working from the common areas during our stay, which created a weird atmosphere. Some took work calls directly outside our room from early morning until night -We had a private room with no lock on the door. We would have felt safer if we could lock our room whilst we were out Overall, not the vibe for a traveller.
Great little hostel! Very thorough with security and check in, and very clean, especially with the shoes-off-inside policy. Space is a little cramped. Not much of a social vibe but good for a quiet place to stay. Free pancake breakfast was very nice.
A little further out from the centre of DC but as a solo female traveller I felt safe and the staff gave me a free upgrade to be in a smaller room to help make that happen
Loved this place. Felt very safe
Very good hostel with everything you need for a short stay and a very good location.
10/10 los pancakes gratis
It was a great time there! It didn’t feel like a hostel it felt more like a home. The pancakes in the morning are so delicious. I will definitely come back!!! loved it there!
