Haka House Bay of Island

Terrible pokey room no fresh air, broken fan, I suggest this room should only be used for storage. Tv not working if you don’t have chrome cast you can not use it at all. After a wonderful stay in Wellington we were expecting the same standard. But it was not to be

The hostel smelled bad, was dirty and worn out. The dorm rooms (especially the female one) were tiny, it was impossible to move around. Showers were in one room, not separated for men & women.

Overpriced private rooms.

The windows in my 4-person room DID NOT open, and there was no A/C, making it lethally hot. My room (Room 1) and the room next door (Room 2) had no choice but to sleep with the doors open, which wasn’t exactly ideal and felt pretty unsettling. Definitely not a great setup.

no air to breath in the rooms going further back, since there were basically no windows nor any other air ventilation system. Rest was fine, a bit dirty but alright. Great location tho

I was really looking forward to this stay thanks to the fabulous reviews. But unfortunately I found the rooms too small, cramped and dark. They were boiling hot and the top bunk was so difficult to get in and out of. Also there was barely any room in the top bunk. The blinds didn’t work and there was no airflow so it got very stuffy. There was mould on the blinds and my sheets had dark stains on them. Loo lock not working and no loo roll on one occasion too. Lovely staff and location though!

There isn’t a proper window in the rooms just a small hole in the ceiling, it was very hot in the rooms no ac, there was a broken fan that fell all the time. Bathrooms are shared both men and women

Die Zimmer sind viel zu eng, konnte nicht mal meinen Koffer aufklappen. Auf der Damentoilette war nicht einmal Seife. Parkmöglichkeiten wie angegeben waren auch keine da. Zu guter letzt ging die Tür unten trotz Code nicht auf und ich stand 20 min vor der geschlossenen Tür. Würde hier nicht nochmal buchen.

The rooms are too hot to sleep. I planned to stay for longer but had to leave after two. Shame because the common area is really nice. Not much atmosphere at all despite this though

We had the best time at the Haka House in Paihia. The staff was wonderful, very informative and helpful. They told us what places to go and helped us book the best rooms when we stayed extra nights. Plus it’s the most beautiful Haka house I’ve ever been to with an amazing view, I highly recommend staying there.

Fabulous place. Views to die for. Clean and welcoming. Comfortable bunks with good mattresses. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Very helpfull when dealing with a problem we had

Good - good location - good kitchen facilities - comfy beds Bad - cleanliness was not always great especially in loos - I feel like it’s not obvious on listing but rooms are very small - the common space was all one room and really bright light less inclined to wanna stay in evening

Prima hostel. Prachtig uitzicht op de baai. Bedjes in slaapzaal erg laag dus pas op je hoofd. Gordijntje is fijn

Overpriced private rooms.

A really lovely hostel. Rooms are a little cramped and there’s no air conditioning, only fans which means it got quite warm overnight. Kitchen and bathrooms are fine - cleaned regularly just a little outdated. Staff were amazing, really friendly and offering tips of things to do. The view from the kitchen window is worth staying for if nothing else!

Amazing place to stay!

Rooms are very cosy (not much space for your belongings/to move around) and also very hot! Female toilets sanitary bins hadn’t been cleaned out for a while and had flies. Not a super social hostel

Wir hatten leider ein Zimmer ohne Fenster, das war nicht angenehm

- Room was very tiny and the air in the room was bad. No room for stuff. Only two toilets for women. No coffee machine. No free parking. +Location was great, air conditioning in kitchen.

Had a good stay at haka house. The staff were great and the hostel was clean. The room was VERY small for 4 people and VERY hot at night. Other than that the location was ideal and the kitchen an common area had everything you would need and was kept nice and clean

Ich bin sogar fast eine Woche dort geblieben weil mir sowohl das Hostel als auch Paihia gefallen hat. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Die Betten sind Bequem und mein Female Dorm war klasse. Es gibt auch Zimmer ohne Fester, dass ist dann nicht so angenehm an warmen Tagen.
