HI Hostel Zagreb

Not the nicest hostel didn’t feel safe the facilities were terrible a lot of things broken eg like in the bathroom my room looked like people were living there and not social at all

The receptionist are not just welcoming. They are very rude and very arrogant. Imagine a receptionist at HI HOSTEL asked me why do I choose HI HOSTEL when there are over 50 hostels in Zagreb. I think I was been treated badly because I am a black person. My experience at the hostel was so bad with their disgusting altitudes.

Please do not stay here in the summer. By the time we got to our room, there were only top bunks left. There was no AC, just a small fan which only reached the bottom bunks. I was too hot all night, and couldn't sleep at all. There was also a lot of noise outside over night. Also, there is only one key per room, which is left at reception by the last person to leave. This felt very unsafe if you were leaving your stuff during the day, as you cant put your own padlock on the lockers.

Don’t even need to write a lot. About 50 Ants in the sink, felt like a prison . Obviously hostels aren’t meant to be glamorous, but this was too much . Would not recommend at all

hostel is in good location but you feel that you came to some old abandoned hotel with old old furniture and no airconditioner even in private rooms. staff is good but still paying such amount with no facilities is such a pain

l'auberge était pure que sale.Il y avait des travaux de jusqu'à 00h qui reprenaient à 7h. Une seule clé pour tout un dortoir ! Pire auberge dans laquelle je suis allée.

Dated and unwelcoming. The staff try their best but don't have a lot to work with. The room "looks" clean but when I looked down the side of my bed near the wall there were old tissues, hair bobbles, plasters etc. along with a huge gathering of dust. There was only 1 working female toilet for the whole floor. There is no soundproofing so you can hear every movement of everyone on your floor and the floor above. Construction work started at 8am with no prior warning. All doors, floos, beds creak.

A localização é excelente, mas o hostel deixa muito a desejar. As fotos são mt diferentes da realidade. num quarto minúsculo para 4 pessoas não há ar condicionado, só uma ventoinha e 1 tomada q fica longe das outras 3 camas. Pedirem 5€ pela chave do cacifo, ainda q devolvam os 5€ no final, acho desnecessário. Cada piso só tem 2 duches, mas os Wcs eram o mais limpo. O pior de tudo: só há uma chave do quarto para 4 hóspedes q não se conhecem! A cozinha é um canto improvisado s/...

The only good thing about the hostel was the people and maybe the location. The staff were nice and the people that were staying with us and that was it. It was clean and the location was okay but not having aircon in the summer is totally appalling. It was boiling in our room, the bathrooms were also hot. The facilities were terrible, only a fridge and a kettle, no sink to fill it up. Barely a common room also. The hostel is definitely only made for later autumn or spring

There were bed bugs in our room. The room smelled weird and we saw that the hostel had used diatom earth (a cheap uneffective countermeasure against bed bugs), so grew suspicious and checked the beds. This also shows that the hostel knew about this problem. Staff at the reception was super nice, immediately gave a full refund after we showed a picture. The location is fine, privacy is meh (you are not allowed to take your key outside). Check your bed if you decide to stay here.

No kitchen just a fridge to store food in but couldn’t cook anything for ourselves, and handheld showers only in the bathrooms. No security to get in and out of floors and share the room key with everyone in room. Was in a good location though near the park and near the old town, friendly staff and nice and clean.

Die Lage vom Hostel ist gut , aber es ist jedoch recht dreckig in den Zimmern und es gibt keine Sozialen Veranstaltungen dort . Im Zimmer konnte man auch nicht sein eigenes Schloss benutzen…

Security in rooms are nonexistent. I understand not getting a lock for the locker for free, but the room doors can't be locked and just anyone can walk in with no key or anything. As for the atmosphere, it was pretty stuffy. We were 4 girls in a 6 bed dorm, and it was super stuffy. I can't even imagine how it is in the summer. I can't complain much about the money since it's cheap and I shouldn't have expected much with that price, but I was still disappointed 😔

Not a good bathroom but overall good stay for a night

The collective rooms are terrible and there is not even a kitchen. The room themselves are old and very small.

Bon hostel en global mais il faut partager la clé du dortoir avec ses colocataires et il faut payer 5€ pour jouer au ping pong ….

Pretty solid

We were two people and got private room with shared bathroom at a nice price. It was pleasant stay there on Easter.

Enjoyed this stay — easy access to trams and old town Zagreb.

I had a mixed experience at this hostel. Unfortunately, having only one key for a room shared by six people was very inconvenient and not practical at all.The atmosphere also felt a bit chaotic, as it seemed like a group of school-aged guests were staying there, and there was a lot of noise in the hallways, especially at night, which made it hard to rest.Additionally, the bathroom facilities could be improved. There was no proper space to place clothes or personal belongings while showering.

unclean. bed had dust mites, bathrooms had mold. hostel itself is dark and dank. bed was filthy with previous peoples hair. way too hot.

Top notch hostel. Quite simple and basic but not in a bad way - everything I needed for a really good price. The room was pleasant, a good bathroom, great location (easily walkable into Zagreb centre) and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Soy chileno viajando por los Balcanes y me he alojado en varias hostales. Esta Hostal tiene una excelente ubicación y dentro de todo es muy limpia. Lo no tan bueno son las areas comunes que son pequeñas y no hay ambiente de hostal, si buscas conocer gente y disfrutar tambien de la hostal este no es el lugar. Tambien es importante que sepan que te cobran por el locker para guardar tu mochila, a pesar de que andes con tu propio candado. La toalla tambien la cobran pero eso me parece bien

It shouldn't be only 1 key per room, in a room of 6, 1 key is not acceptable. Meaning the door as to be unlocked until everyone are inside, and literally anyone can go inside the room. This don't reflect safety or security. Staff was ok, location great, cheap

Not satisfied

Octobre 2025 : L'établissement est très sombre, surchauffé et sale. Pas de cuisine ni de réel lieu commun. Les chambres sont minuscules et sans prises près des lits. Beaucoup de personnes relativement âgées qui semblent vivre ici, je ne recommande pas pour des filles seules. Seuls points positifs : le personnel a été très serviable et attentif à nos demandes et l'hostel est situé à 5 min de la gare (+15 min des bus).

Decent stay. Positives are good location just 5-10 mins from old town and just round the corner from the station. Really friendly staff. Key system was really strange, 1 key for a 6 man dorm last person out has to give the key to reception, felt weird sharing a key also went up as the last person was leaving so had to go back down again, one key each just so much easier. Also shower on our floor in the men’s bathroom had nowhere to put on the wall.

The hostel is very good located, close to the bus station and the old town, the personnel is very helpful with a smile to give the information you need about the city. The atmosphere is great. I met new people from Greece, Germany and I spent a good time talking and sharing experiences there.

Great hostel! The staff are very helpful and the security is brilliant. 24/7 reception is a real bonus. The rooms are clean and tidy. Thank you!
