YHA Ambleside

Excellent location & superb views, but dirty windows marred view. Room shabby & seriously in need of maintenance - particularly flaking paint on wooden window frame, in which cold wind blew thro an alarming rotting gap in frame. No lock on 1 window in ground floor bedroom, so room v vulnerable to burglars. No morning wake-up call facility. Central heating radiator control located under bed - difficult to access. Electric sockets (only 2!) in 4 person bedroom v inconveniently located.

We didn’t get to stay. I tried contacting you to cancel but found it impossible to get in touch with you. I eventually had to cancel through the Ambleside Youth Hostel. That was very straightforward but I have not received any deposit back as it was booked via yourselves! We cancelled over two weeks ago due to my partner having to attend a consultation at a hospital. Not impressed with your booking system or should I say un booking system.

If it’s location you’re after this is perfect. If it’s a warm welcome, friendly staff atmosphere and a general calm environment I would suggest look elsewhere.

I was disappointed with this hostel arrived at 9 30am early to see how the parking situation was it was full so I thought if I came back just after 10am people wud have checked out but it was still full no cars had moved I came back at 3pm to check in still car park was full I do understand that it's first come basis but I do not believe at all that the cars were all with the hostel the staff told me where I cud park but I wud have to pay so that was price up on budget stay in a hostel.

Great location, the self catering kitchen was very well equipped. The wifi is poor quality and the hostel need a good renovation!

The hostel is in a good location - right on the lake and a 10-15 minute walk from the city center. The bar/restaurant downstairs is nice even despite not having the best atmosphere. The hostel isn't that social, but rooms are nice enough, the hostel is well kept enough, breakfast is good, and it's in a beautiful part of the country

Very great location around the lake. Super view, there was enough parking around the hostel, but if there isn't, there are some other options for the customer that's great. The room was great, even if the mattress wasn't the best. A lot of showers and toilets for everyone. The kitchen is great, but there was nothing to make tea or coffee so bring your coffee bean or tea bag. Never been disappointed by the YHA ! The view of the lake is worth it for the calm.

such an incredible place, staff is incredible and the location is just stunning. Only 2 toilets and one shower shared between a floor of 5 rooms so about 30 people. Obviously nothing they can do about it but just be mindful if you have a rush out in the morning. Would apreciate if the beds had blinds like in most hostels, otherwise you have limited privacy as everyone in your room can see you.

Amazing location, their brekky is good value for money. The only real challenge is trying to find a car park. There are not enough directly near the hostel. Having an armchair to sit down in the room was a bonus.

Beautiful location. Worth noting that it's still about a mile away from the main part of Ambleside. Kitchen + common spaces are nice, other areas could use updating. Wifi is only available on the ground floor. You're not allowed to use the common spaces before check in or after departure. Instead, you have to sit inside the busy restaurant/bar area with all of your stuff, which doesn't make sense to me since there is a large common area with many tables that is often empty on the same floor.

I really enjoyed my stay — the view from the room was amazing, the staff were warm and welcoming, the facilities had everything I needed, and the room was spotless.

Enjoyed my stay. Very nice hostel with amazing views. Parking can be a bit of an issue but because I stayed in the middle of the week I did not have much trouble. Staff is very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you.

Excellent location. The hostel is right next to the lake and our room overlooked the lake too. The staff were very friendly and I enjoyed having a couple of pints of Dortmunder next to the lake in the sun or on an evening when the sun was setting. We even went for a little swim from the jetty. I will definitely stay here again. I recommend this hostel.

Breathtaking views out the front with lots of outdoor seating - watched the sunset on the water every day! Good facilities, shower was hot and kitchen was well stocked with the kit you might need. Room was basic and comfortable - corridors could be a little noisy at times. Would stay again :)

Standard YHA. Mid tier hostel with not the cleanest shower area (although not unlike most hostels) and the doors in the rooms do not actually lock automatically. Must be done with a key so you have to trust that whoever leaves the room after you is going to lock it behind them. However, the absolute most perfect location and a more than fair price. For low maintenance people, I would definitely recommend here when visiting the lake district.
