They have quiet hours rules after 23 but attend night events at the "bar" (hostel kitchen) which is on the same floor as dorms and keep the music very load until 2am. They also keep the hostel front door wide open so that people come in to have a drink and shout, pretending they are good at singing, which also makes the cold air get inside. Last but not least, the rooms are dirty and they didn't change up my sleeves after the night... not impressed they had bed bugs issues in the past.

If it weren't for the sever bedbug bites I received this would easily be a 4 star review. The music wasn't so much an issue with me as it was just a nuisance and the price was great. But I had such a bad case of bedbugs I went to urgent care for relief. Absolutely terrible, please think twice before booking here

My first 1 star review.. here’s an honest description: Booked for 3 nights, arrived to the hostel (very run down and shabby) to a lovely girl who checked me in. Went to put my luggage under the bed and it was disgusting - I regret not taking a picture. Trash, leftover socks, droppings, muck and random dirt. Also the bedsheets were dirty (as if someone had slept in it). I lifted up the mattress and underneath it was filthy also. I had read a LOT of reviews about bed bugs - I can now see why!! In fairness to the girl at reception, she offered to change the sheets - but I couldn’t unsee the dirt in the room and hallways that suggested the place doesn’t get deep cleaned unfortunately, so I left and booked a hotel for 3 nights. I’ve been very lucky to have stayed in hostels all over the world from India > Colombia > South Africa… and this was the dirtiest I have ever seen (and India is pretty filthy!). FYI - I’ve learned over the years, don’t trust “Local Guide” reviews that give 5 stars. They are incentivised to leave 5 star reviews so are not in any way a valid source. Such a pity for a hostel lover like myself. Would definitely reconsider your options unless you don’t mind staying in these conditions. This is my first 1 star review and it kills me to have to write this but an honest review is needed!

At first, when I woke up in the middle of the night getting bitten all over, I thought it was just mosquitoes because the sheets looked clean. But the next morning, I woke up and saw a bedbug crawling on the sheets.

Bed bugs and the hostel has known for weeks without dealing with it,,, I stayed at hostel fish on September 17, 18th and 21st and in the Map room on both days, beds C and E ( they’re right next to each other). On the 20th, I had two bug bites on my hands which I didn’t immediately associate w bed bugs. On the 21st, I woke up to bed bugs crawling on me and I turned on the lamp to see a little red one that I’d grabbed off my neck. I immediately grabbed all my stuff off the bed around 1:30am and told hostel staff about the bed bugs. I was up drying all my clothes and bagging them in plastic bags with my sister at 2 am. Hostel staff told me to reach out to management who after emailing, will only refund me for the most recent night. They say that because I didn’t alert them to an issue the first two nights, they can’t refund me. However, they’ve known about the issue and seem to be banking on the fact that bed bug bites take a few days to show up so people won’t notice right away. I checked google reviews and unfortuanely saw that the management had been made aware of the bed bug issue weeks ago and said they would take measures to handle the situation. They’ve done nothing,, just continue to let people stay in beds infested with bed bugs for weeks. So disturbing, two days after staying there I’m still seeing bites appear and I’m so freaked out that I brought them with me. :/ Incredibly upsetting that the hostel management knew and did nothing, while continuously assuring people it would be handled.

Managers were aware of BED BUG issue in the MapRoom as seen by their responses to previous guests here (see other reviews from the last two weeks) and KNOWINGLY allowed my sister to be roomed there. I was in a different room and didn't have any issues thank g o d . But I was up at 2 am with her drying all of her cloths and putting all in-dry-able items in plastic bags. As the staff can attest I was incredibly respectful composed and kind when o approached them about the issue. I was giving them grace because I know bed bugs happen... it's an unfortunate truth of the world we live in. THAT SAID. . . I was unaware until checking reviews that they K N E W ABOUT THE BED BUGS... and have known for at least 2 weeks YET they allowed my sister to stay in that room this past Wednesday, Thursday and and Sunday Nights. I was very kind to staff and really wanted to give this place grace but the fact that they knew and continued to allow folks to stay there is absolutely beyond me. Greed. Neglect. Disgusting... not the hostel itself per se but on the part of management. A bed bug infestation could cost the average joe thousands of dollars to remediate and they have KNOWINGLY exposed their guests to this kind of risk. I now have to spend hours of my time cleaning and quarantining all of my items. I love staying at hostels and was excited to take my sister to her first one. It would have been an awesome experience but this was just wrong. Again bed bugs are gross but KNOWING and exposing travelers young and old when they could have just quarantined the room and actually dealt with the issue three weeks ago when the problem was first reported?!!!! Very disturbing. Very disappointed.

Bed bug infestation confirmed in the map room. Management has known for at least 2 weeks prior to my stay of the issue yet continues to allow people to be housed there. Very disappointing response from management. I wouldn't trust staying at this place, I don't trust management is taking proper precautions. Very risky hostel to stay at for bed bugs.

They have crawling bedbugs!!! Yikes!!!! The bedbugs are being bred over years, the property stuffs know it, the manager knows it. They don’t care. They suggest you to move into some other place if you don’t wanna sleep with bedbugs. And you are not getting any refund, that’s why, they have no cancellation policy!

Bed bugs! Avoid this unhygienic hostel... Stayed in the female dorm (Maps, Bunk F 29-31 August 2025) and woke up covered in bed bug bites. After I showed pictures of the bugs I found to the hostel staff, they transfered me to another room- I then had to ask them to change the sheets there because none of the beds were cleaned/made after the previous guests. They just reuse the comforters without changing the cover for each guest, and the area around the mattress is very dusty/dirty. I had to spend hours at my next destination meticulously sanitizing and doing laundry instead of enjoying hiking. Still itchy. I regret staying here so much, wish I would have cancelled when I saw the other reviews mentioning bed bugs.

Absolutely horrible. I saw your comment on another review saying none of your staff promised a refund. I was in the room when your employee Skylie assured them AND me that we would get a refund. Hostel Fish was a nightmare from the first second we got there to the moment we left. Staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. The place is disgusting. Blasting music past 2 am every night throughout the hostel should be disclosed on your website before booking. Yes I saw it said there is a bar there as your manager Jared mentioned to me when I complained. The music is BLASTING throughout the hostel. People are coming in and out all night yelling. Truly unbearable to stay there me and the people I was with left three nights early. I would never recommend this place to anyone. And you lie in your reply? Jared was FAR from respectful the way he spoke to me. There were many witnesses of that. Your employee told me and another guest we would get a refund for checking out early. Jared was condescending speaking to me about how we were going to stay one more night and only leave two nights early so it “must not be that bad” I was not going to be spoken to the way he was talking to me so I walked away. Packed up and left. We were not going to stay another night in a bedbug infested hostel with rude staff who make excuses for themselves and the terrible hostel. Shame on you.

I had such a great stay at Hostel Fish! The staff was absolutely awesome—friendly, welcoming. I’d seen a previous review mentioning bed bugs, so I was a little hesitant, but I can confidently say that was not my experience at all. Everything was clean and comfortable, and I had zero issues. The vibe of the hostel was fun yet relaxed, and I met some great people during my stay. I felt safe, well taken care of, and totally at home. I would 100% stay here again the next time I’m in town. Highly recommend!

Be careful everyone. And for others.. Dont waste ur time or money here.. Staff are rude, place is a dump, people smoking in the rooms, no one at the counter when you arrive or when you need to get ur bags to leave. No one at the bar to serve you a drink. The beds and pillows are terrible and there are bed bugs.. Yep.. Look at the other review..

SEVERE BED BUGS!! UPDATE: counted 56 bites PRO: -affordable, around 50/night -close to union station, within a 1 mile radius of most downtown places, no need for car -clean communal bathroom, staff close it up and clean it pretty comprehensively. wish that were the case with the rooms -kitchen and bar open to guests to hang out/ store food -welcoming staff -cute interior design/vibe -access cards to all rooms with lockers for guests CON -the BED BUGS allegations are real, i stayed for 2 nights and got bites all over -saw staff come in after another guest in my room left and they just swapped out the bedcovers within the span of 5 minutes. no vacuum or anything of the sorts sadly. not surprised i got bites, especially at the top bunk -the blocks leading up to the hostel gets to be a bit sketchy TLDR affordable option for solo short stay if you’re ok with running the risk of getting bit (not the end of the world, just uncomfortable and a bit gross)

i don't normally review places but i feel people need to know that there may be an ongoing bedbug issue at this location. i stayed in the paris room, bunk f, oct 4-oct 6 2024. i don't have photographic evidence, but i found at least one dark spot on the sheet, and have about 16 consecutive bites over my arms/shoulders. unfortunately a) i did not realize until the final night of my stay—earlier bites i'd dismissed as mosquito bites, and b) i'd already booked my stay more than a week prior, and didn't see the review from a week ago indicating there is a bedbug issue at this location until i started to investigate further. i don't think whatever remediation steps they claim to have taken in response to that review actually worked. it's a shame because otherwise the building is cute and in a great location. update: wrote to them directly on 10/8 after they replied to this review, specifically asking for more detail on what they mean by "immediate intervention." have yet to hear anything further

Great location and kind staff. However it seems there is a very bad pest (bed bug) problem in the dorm rooms that seems to be swept under the rug. I would definitely stay again if the rooms were properly cleaned and exterminated.

Love this place so so much, only complaint was the first night I had gotten here, I had asked if anybody would be around after 3am, was told yes, and if not just call and that they’ve even dealt as late as 5 in the morning; come 4:41am, I come, and surely enough no luck getting ahold of anybody, so I slept in my minivan outside till around the 7:11am marker, doors were open, proceeded to sleep in my room finally for a couple hours, before checking out. Though concerning this, when I did arrive at 4:41 in the morning, there had been another guest that had been stuck outside, who sadly had been mugged in the area nearby and had had all his belongings in the hostel, very clean cut gentleman so I allowed to him to rest in my vehicle until the hostel and had more formally opened up. 2nd complaint would be concerning the very first room I had gotten, (been here a few nights total), had a fair amount of what it seems to be, bed bugs, or the sort? One could amount this to sleeping in a minivan, but that was a rental that was switched over the following week, and I had been put onto that same bed, and the same situation had happened, so, not sure. Other than these things, this is a wonderful hostel, nice and quiet, quick to many amazing spots, including obviously the bar not only near the main lobby, but downstairs (Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox), and a click or two from Coor’s field! Staff is relatively friendly, and aside the whole potential bug thing, the beds are very comfortable.

There were bed bugs in my bed. I was bitten all over. When I complained, management suggested I brought the bed bugs into the hostel. Out of three showers in the women's bathroom, one was closed and one only gave either boiling hot or freezing cold water. Just one shower had decent water. I have stayed in other hostels in the country and would rank this one low.

Be aware of bed bugs. Read on... Stayed 2 nights at hostel fish after finishing the Colorado Trail northbound. It was basically what I expected. Shared female dorm room was clean and was a perfect temperature, comfortable bed with privacy curtain. I slept well both nights. Having access to a mostly full kitchen (no oven) was very useful. Although a lot of the kitchen equipment is in rough shape (dull knifes, broken handles on pans). I don't expect a gourmet kitchen at a hostel and you can make things work just fine. Laundry services were available to me for $5 which was extremely convenient. Showers and bathrooms were clean and very nice, plus they sell a range of toiletries at the front desk for good prices. This place has a bar that is open until 2am each night and they play loud music. However, this is well communicated on their website and I was willing to accept this potential drawback when I purchased a room. You will need good ear plugs if you aren't partying yourself. There are 2 main reasons I am giving only 3 stars and I hope this is read by management.... 1. This hostel is located in a pretty sketchy area. I walk everywhere and I did not feel particularly safe in this area. Additionally, there was a lot of broken glass all over the sidewalks. Obviously, this is out of the hostels control but it is something to consider. 2. I did get a couple bed bugs bites and will have to bag/seal and heat all of my belongings when I get home to prevent spreading them. YES, I am certain. I have a lot of experience with bed bugs and am very diligent about looking for signs and symptoms of them wherever I travel.

I came to this hostel for the reviews. Pro: The Service was excellent staff are great. Location from Union Station tram and buses not too far but a 3-4 blocks away but not too close either. I stayed on a Saturday night. Secure doors with digital number passwords rooms and bathrooms. Very rustic and wooden environment not the actual bunks. Pretty clean rooms and bathrooms Cons: Located inside building with a bar restaurant. On Friday and Saturday weekends at night the whole neighborhood transfers into night life with a bar scene and people having fun, if you like that scene than stay here on the weekends. Many young people at hostel. I am sure doing the week it not half as vibrant at evening time. The guy at the friend desk that night made me aware that personal belongings like own pillows and blankets are not allowed cause of bed bugs, but I ended up getting bite twice on my arm the next day. I know when I get bed bugs I usually get big welts. I was not happy about it!! That ruined my experience!

WARNING LEFT THIS HOSTEL WITH BED BUG BITES!!! This is party hostel and not your location if you plan to get up early and need quality sleep. I left my stay covered in BED BUG BITES!!! The staff makes an effort to clean the place. The hostel bathroom, common area were overall property was clean. However, its obvious now that the sheet are not cleaned properly between guests!!! Second, I did not feel safe on this property. The bar area is open to the public 7am - 2am and the hostel is not located in a safe area. I had several uncomfortable/ inappropriate encounters with a guest in my dorm. I let the staff know I did not feel safe and the person did not seem mentally OK. The workers on duty did their best to switch my room and make the best of the situation. However, I was not allowed to speak to a manager about my concern and it seemed as if they tried to dismiss my issue. Several other people had an issue with this guest and from my knowledge the guest was not kicked out of the hostel. I appreciate the support and friendliness of some of the staff. As a traveler, it seems the mangers of do not prioritize cleanliness or individual guest concern.

Bed bugs! Stay away!!!!! Was in room 303G and woke up with bed bug bites all over my left and right wrists, and left and right jaw lines, and along my upper arms and back. The bites are in an area of 6-8 bites. I informed the staff right away. The young guy acknowledged the issue right away and asked me to email in. I did. I was approached by a female staff with long hair and fake glasses who claimed that these are not bed bug bites as they’re “not in a line”. She claims that these are not bed bug bites. And that I was “having a reaction to something else.” I emailed in, wanting to move rooms. Management indicated there’s no more rooms left. They’re moving me to 303B. Management agreed to me using the washer and dryer so I don’t carry the bed bugs home. There was someone in 303B already and he told me he was from another room and he’s had bed bugs there too. I was in shock. I went downstairs to talk to staff right away to let them know maybe he was the carrier. Then to find out that the girl working the bar already knew that bed bugs at Fish is a commonly known problem and “have had pest control come in in the last few weeks” trying to get rid of the bed bugs. I doubt any of the guests know there’s bed bugs. The night before leaving, I insisted on using their washing machine and dryer to kill the bed bugs before going home. I asked the only staff at the time, happened to be the gaslighting woman with fake glasses, and she indicated that “the upstairs washing machine is broken and the downstairs machine is for linen only.” At this point, I was furious. They knew they had bed bugs for weeks. They did not inform guests. Accommodations are liable for keeping their guests bed bugs free. They failed their duty of care.

My first few days in the hostel were fine. I met some good people and enjoyed the area. The problems came towards the end of my stay. Upon leaving the hostel, I discovered numerous bug bites all over my body. The bites started on the forehead extended to my right leg. I later found out that the bunkmate above me had bed bugs and dealt with similar bites. That bunkmate let the staff know and checked out two days before me. Despite that, I was not informed of this until later and was not offered a different bed/room. For that alone, I feel like I should have my last few nights refunded from the hostel. I reached out to the Hostel to let them know about my situation. The front desk person told me to send an email, detailing the ordeal. I sent that email over a week ago and have yet to hear back. The hostel looks cool and is in a good location, but considering that I still have bites nearly two weeks after checking out, I unfortunately have to reconsider my stance on the hostel and their cleanliness.

I stayed several times last year w good experiences, this trip was abhorrent. I got myself settled, left the next day & got settled in again that evening. Around 12 I noticed a bed bug on the the sheet. Searched further & found another. Brought 1 to desk immediately. Staff moved me, told me to email for refund. The manager told me there wasn’t sufficient proof. He refused a refund, only to later say he didn’t have authority to. I asked him to cc me w the general manager. Refused. No follow up.

Location was great. Bathroom was great and very clean. Staff was friendly-ish. Bar was pretty cool. Unfouretnely, I was bitten by bugs( I'm assuming bed bugs) during the one night my boyfriend and I stayed here. They are on my legs, arms, hands and even my face. I did see a bug when I woke up in the morning but thought it was a normal bug you find in old buildings. I didn't realize it was bed bugs until we had checked out and my whole body started to itch and noticed my body was covered in bug bites. I know it happens with places that have frequent guests, I just think they need to be more thorough in checking for bugs between each guest.

Location was great. Some stuff was nice. One thing o didn't like about sleeping here was bug bites. I got 19 bug bites staying here. On my last day, I got 11 bug bites all over on my legs. It even bit my face too. Bites are huge and extremely itchy and hurts. When I got huge bites(it looks bed bugs) on my arms in a sharing space, I asked one of the stuff kindly if they know about it or if others got bites too. And they never took seriously and told me to go up in a front desk and negotiate the price for the bug bites. Never took seriously. Place is not clean obviously.

The place is very clean, excellent location, nice atmosphere. All the good reviews are quite true. My grade is related to one person of the staff, who was not helpful and ignored a serious issue in a hostel: bed bugs. It was the first time I had contact with this insects. I had several bites and an allergic reaction. At that point, I didn't know what had bitten me, so I came to the person in the reception and asked. Showed him the bites, asked for help, and if he knew what could have happened. The guy just said: "I don't know." As if bed bugs are something that he doesn't know and are not a big problem for his business. I'm very disappointed.
