The Islander Chiang Mai

The towel I was given had a brown stain on it. The bathroom doors (frosted glass) which faced the main hallway/stairway were pretty gross and I didn’t feel comfortable as you could see through the glass for both the bathroom and shower. Only a small locker for your things. The room was set to 24 when the outside temp was 25… what’s the point? Smelled like a hot fart all the time. Location wasn’t near any of the parts of town I wanted to be in.

Booked a stay and then cancelled on me right before the day of my stay. Very unprofessional.

As I left my stuff in the luggage storage area some money was stolen from me. I noticed it after I left the Islander. So don’t leave your stuff unattended there. It’s a small hostel, so it’s pretty easy to meet other people. But I didn’t make any friends there, I guess this depends on the people who stay there. One half of the hostel is pretty run down, whereby the other side is a bit better and new renovated.

Das Personal wirkte sehr uninteressiert. Die Bar war meist nicht besetzt und wollte man einen drink muss man einen Mitarbeiter rufen, da sie am Tisch sassen und am Handy waren. Die Mitarbeiter hatten aber auch keine lust auf Ihre Arbeit. Die Drinks waren dazu noch miserabel! Wifi war gut

Party vibe was week

Nice location. Close enough to the old town and far enough for it to be quiet. On the other hand, the hostel was not convenient: very hard mattress, unconfortable pillows, dirty bathroom and the private room looks like a prison cell. Very small and dark. We ask for another pillow and blanket and they refuse. We ask twice politly. I do not recommand this place if you are looking for comfort.

Some staff are nice, but the day we arrived they were really not great and didn’t help us settle in at all. We had the private room which was fine. Comfy ish bed. Found it really irritating that the water was never full. Location was okay, outside old town

All hostels in Thailand offer you breakfast, this doesn’t. The lockers are so tiny you just can save your passport, there is not social area just a few tables outside, and the location is not the best is around 15 min walk from the all main center.

We thought this hostel was nice and everyone was very welcoming but a little pricey for what it was compared to other hostels in the area.

Hostel très social et très bien placé. Les lieux sont propres et les lits très confortables. Le personnel est très accueillant et toujours prêt à aider. Je recommande totalement cet hostel pour votre séjour à Chiang Mai.

super great hostel with lovely staffs! can’t thank enough for Taya, Ai, Amy, Nina, Baby for hosting and arranging such a fun night. feels like i have new family in Chiang Mai and will def come back! love the atmosphere and everything, literally feels like home and everyone are incredibly amazing!

Hostel was class , rooms was sound would recommend, staff was friendly and fun , thanks to Taya, Baby, Ai, Aummy and Nina

The islander was great, friendly people and great staff. Taya, Baby, Ai, Aummy and Nina were brilliant.

Great location, there was a morning and night market about 2 mins away every single day! Also a huge market on Saturday’s. Good pub crawl, Thursday and Sunday only. Bathrooms don’t have great ventilation but they are roomy for showers. The staff were very good. You get a towel during your stay! The lockers they give are very small, you can only fit a small backpack in them, so if you like to lock your entire bag up, you can’t, but still felt safe leaving my stuff out.

Came here for Songkran, the experience was incredible. The hostel offered good deals on activities and drinks, not so much for transportation to other cities. The staff were also very kind and willing to give suggestions.

Comfortable Stay & Truly Memorable for Me” Stayed in many hostels across Chiang Mai, but this one truly stands out. Super comfortable, well-managed, and the social vibe makes it easy to connect with people. A memorable stay for me—highly recommended!

“The first time was so nice I had to do it twice” best hostel if you love meeting new people and the team that work there treat you like family

Smaller lounge area so if you’re looking for a place to lounge around, it might not be the place, but besides that, it’s perfect! The staff are incredibly nice and helpful and genuinely want to help. It’s extremely social and with it being a smaller area, it makes it really easy to meet people!! Such a good spot, only thing is that it’s far from 7/11 (5 minute walk lol);)

The Islander Hostel has been my second home for the past few days. The rooms were nice, everyone was nice and the neigbourhood was perfect. Sara, the volonteer, became one of my best friend, Baby was really funny and an amazing batender, Taya knew how to party, PK is just amazing, Aummy was so sweet and Ai too! The owner, Alex, was there almost everyday. My best advice for Chiang Mai? Book at the Islander and you’ll get stuck there forever…

Stayed here for Songkran 2025, the experience was very good and memerable, and the staff + volunteer made it extra fun! The location is good and quiet, but a bit of a walk from most places worthwhile. The beds were all comfortable.

One of the best hostels I ever stayed in! Very social vibe and great staff! Special shootout to Ai, Taya and Sarah for making the nights out this good! And also a shootout to Pk, Aummy and of course Baby for being such great hostel members! Wanted to stay here just a few nights and got stuck. Will definitely come back one day because it feels like a home away from home. THANK YOU GUYS 🫶🏻
