Hostel was fine! Very cheap but don’t expect too much. It wasn’t very clean but at least no bed bugs. The beds very terrible hard and made a lot of noise when climbing upstairs. You cannot control the ac yourself, staff member walks in the room around 6 and will turn the ac on and she comes back at 8 in the morning to turn it off and then it will be bloody hot in an hour. Breakfast is also not very special but they have toast, coffee and fresh fruit.

The staff are lovely but unfortunately they seem to have bed bugs or just unclean sheets as I woke up with bites all over my body and swollen eyes (I don't have allergies). The location is nice and close to everything.

Warning for bedbugs!! We only stayed one night and then we heard that many people had got bedbugs that night, and we found one in our bed. We decided to move hostel and the staff was helpful and we got our money back! Check the beds before sleeping here! Except for the bedbugs, it was a nice hostel with a good hang-out-area and a very welcoming staff. Breakfast was included which was very nice!

We spent 4 nights at the hostel. Overall the hostel is really nice, the location is good, the staff is friendly and the social aspect is also good. But unfortunately we found bed bugs in our bed!!! We had bites everywhere and it itched like hell! We also had to clean our clothes and disinfect our backpacks. We also knew another person who had the same problem with this hostel. Until this problem isn't solved, I cannot recommend staying here!

This was a hard review to give but I wanted to be objectively fair. I’ll start with the positives: the owner was absolutely lovely, made a real effort with each customer to remember names, say hello, ask how our days went, answer any questions etc. Most involved owner or staff I’ve seen in my month in Thailand. Free pool table is always nice. Free fruit and sometimes muffins for breakfast. Mini kitchen facilities including fridge, kettle, sink, cutlery. Security keypads for the rooms. The negatives: the biggest issue I found with Monkey Toe was the cleanliness. The showers and toilets are really not good and could do with a total refurbishment. We weren’t sure if the mattress sheets were cleaned between guests (only saw pillow cases and blankets being washed personally). Had several people mention finding bedbugs, I didn’t personally but my friend woke up with a lot of bites and that was enough for her to leave early and stay elsewhere. Also someone (not sure if staff or just an annoying customer) kept turning the AC off at around 6am every morning which meant I was awake by 7am each morning due to waking up hot. Additional point is that this is often referred to as a social hostel but that can be misleading. I’ll clarify it has social elements such as a pool table and a common area but it doesn’t have like daily activities that bring people together they just offer your booking facilities (which is good but not exactly “social” in my opinion). Overall I’m not sure I can recommend people to stay here unless the bathroom facilities were overhauled and the bed hygiene was reviewed. If you couldn’t careless about those things then sure go ahead, but if you’re someone who needs a decent minimum level of hygiene then I’d pass.

We saw bed bugs in the bed, when we reported this to the owner, she did nothing about it and the next day people slept in the same beds again.

Staff were friendly but found a bed bug in bed one night!
