Wouldn’t recommend. We were made to wait 90 minutes after the stated check in time for our room. The private room we had booked smelt horrible because it was so damp. The hostel also advertised a free BBQ on Hostelworld but we were charged for the meal when checking out. The road is right beside some rooms so there is loud noise late at night. We were also woken at 7am by loud music and drilling outside our room. The showers did not have warm water. All staff were super nice.
I didn't like the location, right behind the main dock and it's noise. I felt like the hostel just wanted to make as much money as possible. The dorm room was too small and crowded.
Manque de propreté, douche froide et le wifi ne fonctionne pas ou est extrêmement lent
Lack of cleanliness, cold showers and wifi not working or extremely slow
I dont understand the good reviews. Staff is SUPER rude, I stayed in a private room, linen was super dirty (i don't think they change it before I came), I felt bedbugs. Toilets and showers look awful. Property is really old and smelly and walls are so thin I could hear my neighbor snoring.
The staff refused to speak Spanish (only English, mostly they can't even speak Spanish. i find it unacceptable) and overall i personally didn't feel at all comfortable there. in the mornings it took forever until breakfast was ready and the construction site next to my cabin made it impossible to sleep. i wouldn't even stay there again.
I would advise to not go to this hostel until there are a turnover of volunteers. Very much felt like it was their hostel which the guests stayed at. Unfortunately the volunteers are very clicky, not going any further than smiling when we ordered but nothing else. Not inclusive of the guests and overall creates a very weird vibe, especially when they partied to 4am in the common room one night waking up guests. Also know of someone who got their belongings stolen in their locker
Das Zimmer gleicht einer gartenhütte
The room looks like a garden shed
THE DORMS DON’T HAVE ANY ELECTRICITY IN THEM!!!! they obviously don’t put this in the information because no self respecting backpacker will stay there even if they are running low on cash!!
Avoid I got terrible food poisoning after spending two nights there. The hostel is nice but nothing is worth the horrible vomiting, diarrhea I have endured after staying there.
Overall bad experience at this hostel. The bed are like cardboards, the dorms are extremely small and there are not enough bathrooms. They grossly overcharged me for the shuttle to Lanquin (140Q than the others in the shuttle paid). I would recommend arranging your shuttle elsewhere. Views of the lake are amazing.

Great hostel. Great location, heaps of activities & the family dinner is a great idea loved that! Definitely ask for the room furtherest away from the wood fire sauna or it’ll smoke out your room but plus they had a sauna! 🤍
Overall a cute, cozy hostel to do nothing but relax, especially after hiking Acatenango. Santa Cruz is definitely very tiny and quiet with honesty not much to do, but this is perfect if that’s what you’re looking for. One thing I don’t like is the fact that they have no local staff at all except for in the kitchen — rubs me the wrong way as I prefer supporting local jobs rather than travellers volunteering and I found a few weren’t super warm/friendly. Nowhere to eat unless you do fami...
Social hostel, great location and you can walk to free cerveza to swim. Hit or miss with the staff…family dinners were also hit or miss and you don’t have the ability to cook. Me and my friend had upset tummies after eating here. Rooms are interesting, very hard to get to the top bunk, no glass on the windows so if it rains your bed gets damp. Did the job
Beautiful location and property! Staff were super friendly and helpful. The meals available were also really good. It’s close to some great swim spots and is very peaceful during the day and social in the evening. I think this hostel is such a great value and I can’t wait to return.
Really nice hostel in Sta Cruz! Great place to go relax. The hostel is right by the water and the view is unmatched. Private room was nice, slept very well. The family dinners/restaurant in general is amazing and prices are very reasonable. Overall felt safe however the lock/chain on the door wasn’t super effective (door still opened partway). Staff was very kind but at times slightly scattered as we believe there were a few new volunteers. Overall would recommend!
Amazing hostel, great vibe, great dinners and activities
I would recommend this hostel to all that seek a relaxing time at the lake, away from the bustling traveller hubs like San Pedro o San Marcos. Great food and it's easy to make connections during family dinner. Beautiful location at the waterfront of the lake and very good information and recommendations about activities and tours. Would stay again!
awesome spot, summer camp vibe, great staff, good jump off point for seeing the rest of atitlan.
Great hostel super cute love the luscious gardens and the cabin style rooms. Social and nice communal spaces, literally right off of the ferry which is so practical. No swimming right from the hostel but you can walk 30 seconds to swim. No kitchen. Only family dinner (not cheap but ok price for a big dinner) good activities. Honestly loved my stay here so much would have stayed longer! I would absolutely stay here instead of free Cerveza and just go to free for the day / dinner!
The staff were amazing! I ended up getting pretty sick and they were so accommodating and gave me good tips on what to do and how to get better. The atmosphere was awesome as well. Great location and the food is wonderful.
There is a lot to love about this place: location is amazing, great chill out area, restaurant serves good food. But there were also some things that felt quite off: the place is foreign owned and is run by foreign volunteers, locals are employed as cleaners and in the kitchen only, it is not allowed to bring your own food, there is no WiFi in most spaces, the restaurant is pricey, the luggage storage is not very secure, and the open mic night felt like forced fun at summer camp. Overall, meh.
More volunteers than people staying there. The most unwelcoming and cliquey hostel I’ve stayed at in months of backpacking. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful hostel / location (although the bunks are pretty bad and you will wake up all night to the volunteers partying due to no soundproofing). The no of volunteers has got so out of hand that as a guest you feel like you’re gatecrashing their holiday. Super immature attitude and incredibly unfriendly beyond the forced smiley intro you get.
Had such a great time, great people / org / vibes!
The most gorgeous hostel ever. Location is amazing and only a quick boat ride from any other towns. Staff and volunteers are so so friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and cosy. Cute dogs too. You can tell the staff love working here which is a great sign. Family dinners are cheap and yum and a great way to meet people. Could stay here forever!!!!
great staff, great food, great hostel !! would recommend to everyone.
One of the best hostels i’ve stayed at! Incredible views, great atmosphere, lovely patio
My favourite hostel in Guatemala. Located right next to the dock with amazing lake views. On site yoga studio and daily activities. Family dinner made the hostel really special, I did it both nights I was there! The tab system was also very convenient. Overall a lovely, pretty, friendly hostel, in my opinion far superior to Free Cerveza down the road!
The place is exactly what they offer. quiet but with a little party. well located place to move to the other places around the lake. thanks mainly to Mara, Sara and Dani who were very good, gave me information and even took me kayaking.
This hostel is a must do when you’re in Atitlán and looking for a relaxing but social place to stay. I still think a lot about this place! It’s so beautiful, the sunsets are incredible. The family dinners were amazing. The staff is friendly. I especially loved going in the temazcal! 100% recommend this place.
Easily the best hostel in Central America. Perfect location on the lake, with direct access to taxi boats. The family dinners are what makes this place so special. Not only is the food amazing, but sitting down and eating with others is a perfect way to make friends. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. Loved the different activities every night after dinner. The staff and volunteers are the best!
