Ducks and Drakes

Definitely not request this hostel. Stuff is unfriendly and snooty. The beds are really noisy and uncomfortable. There is a sauna on the pictures but it’s not working. Only one really small bathroom for the hole floor.

Was really disappointed by this hostel, especially considering the price. The kitchen was unclean, and there was no space in the fridge. The toilets were dated and there are no sinks in the toilets so you can’t easily wash your hands. It also advertised free parking, but this is reserved for cottage stays and so we had to park really far away. Really loved New Plymouth, but wish the hostel had lived up to the reviews.

They did not leave me the key of my room for late check in. Had to sleep in my car. Really awful service. It’s not that complicated to leave keys in a box like every other hostel in NZ. The guy running the place sent me an email to tell me it won’t be able to be here for late check-in but he actually lives in the hostel… Would not recommend this place!

A cute common area doesn't equal a great hostel. If the bunks are so loose they wobble when you get in them, it's basically lazy owners who can't put the effort in to make them safe. Or fix the toilet roll holder or put a shelf in the shower. This hostel is ok but every photo in their advertising lies, towels are not provided unless you pay extra for them. It's noisy and in need of repairs throughout. It's ok but it's definitely not great.

I did not stay overnight, checked out the same evening. Overall, experienced what some reviews experienced as well. Very friendly staff, but not open during the hours advertised (like when I checked out). Flooring needs a renewal, just like the sheets. Overall yellowish colour and stains. Bathroom seemed okay.

Cute little place close to the CBD. Friendly helpful staff and nice facilities with a lot of rooms to just slumber which was nice. Quite some long-term residents but they mostly minded their own business so no issues.

Brett the owner is fantastic but there were mainly locals staying in the hostel which was uncomfortable.

No real good option with exception of hotels. Was not my fav place

Rooms didn’t have any curtains or lockers, beds were kinda shaky. So you could feel every movement in the bunk beds. Some of the bathrooms could be renewed, they were kinda old. The common area was pretty nice and decent though ☺️

super Hostel, die Küche ist vielleicht etwas klein wenn mehr los ist, bei uns waren nicht viele Reisenden da, daher überhaupt kein Problem! Ansonsten super nettes Personal!

Nice cosy hostel, big kitchen and lounge area. Unfortunately my room didn't have a bottom sheet (maybe the cleaner forgot) and by the time I realised, reception was closed. Rooms were slightly outdated.

It was very lovely. The kitchen was a bit run down but had everything you need. The bathroom and room was very clean. Sadly there was not a lot hot water coming from the shower and the water tasted very sandy. The atmosphere was amazing and I enjoyed my stay very much.

Second time 🦆 and drakes in 3 years, love the place, the atmosfeer and the people. The place needs a little more TLC though. Bathrooms, pots and pans and carpet, some paint do wonders for the next people and me coming back for sure.

Overall good stay here! Location is great, a lot of free parking right outside on the road. The kitchen had everything you needed and the rooms and facilities were clean. Only thing is that the room got really warm with 6 people in them and no fan available. The lamps in the room were also a bit annoying, as the room only had 2 big and bright ceiling lamps.

Chill hostel, close to the supermarkets, and the owner runs a shuttle bus to mt Taranaki!!

I loved this hostel, it was one of the best I have stayed in. Really good atmosphere, the staff are really friendly and it is easy to make friends in the common area. The kitchen is clean and wasn’t too busy so I always had space to cook.

The hostel was very homely and charming. I was waiting for quite a while for check in to open, an hour after it said it would be open.

Super auberge. Acceuil très sympa. Les chambres sont spacieuses, les lits sont confortables. Coussin, couverture,drap et casiers sont à disposition. C est PROPRE. Il y a de la.place dans la cuisine et les communs. Les différents salons sont très agréable et calme. Je recommande cette auberge. Bien situé à pied du centre ville, du musée, des magasins, restaurants etc il y a toujours de la place pour garer la voiture. Ça fait de l'auberge un super endroit où passer son temps pendant l...

Solid hostel. Brett, the owner, was an absolute champ. Great cottage vibes. Comfy beds. Sometimes you had to fiddle with the showers for hot water.
