Loved the atmosphere and perfect location near the cliff. A fantastic social spot to meet people.For it to be truly great, cleanliness needs more regular attention and the staff could be more proactively helpful. With those improvements, it would offer much better value for the price.A promising hostel with fantastic potential!

An absolute downgrade from what it was 2 years with previous management. The staff was rude, we were asked to wear arm bands full time, there was no vibe anymore - no push from the management for organising any socialising events (hostellers were going to other hostels for evening events) I had an almost 2 week stay here but had to cut it short because of how underwhelming the experience was From the best hostel that I had stayed in 2 years ago, this has now become the worst

Typical hostel, nice location, but not that well maintained. Over priced, dirty & loud travellers. Would not recommend.

I had a booking in this hostel. The expiry date on my passport was not clear and the receptionist thought my visa had already expired. He refused to check me in and told me I would have no chance anywhere. I understand visa rules are strict but no discussion was possible, he just wanted me out although I had supporting documents to prove my visa was still valid (in other hostels afterwards it was not an issue at all). He completely overreacted and I really though I would have to sleep outside.

Staff was especially horrible. Rooms smelled horrible, especially the AC ones. Most rooms in back building don't get a decent WiFi connection. Non-AC rooms were crazy hot, sultry. To top it all off, the staff was of no help when someone else was sleeping on our bed at 12:00 AM in the night. The exact words used by them: "we can't wake up the guest, you have to manage by yourself. The hostel is fully booked". We paid for a bed & yet denied one!! Felt scammed! It was a mistake staying here!!

When we saw the room we were shocked. It was completely moldy, especially the bathroom, but also the bedroom. The bedsheets were dirty and also still sort if wet…. yikes. Also, all activities were cancelled … There was also no further information or help from them when we asked them how we could organize to go to munroe or alleppey by ourselves… Overall a very unpleasant stay. We left the next morning…

The hostel was extremely unsafe. An outsider entered girls dorms at 5 in the morning and molested a few girls and forcebly kisses one and touched many inappropriately. There was no security or any staff at the reception or at the gate for security. Anyone could just easily get inside and do whatever. Worst experience ever. Never using hostel world again. Wouldnt recommend anyone.

Ignorant staff told me that there is a taxi at 3 am and I can go to the train station, in the event that there was no taxi and after an hour of waiting, which was close to leaving the train and the plane, a local person took me to the station.

Hope Hostels is a great choice if you're visiting Varkala on a budget. The property is well-maintained, and the dorms are clean and comfortable. The rooftop/common space is a highlight—it’s a great place to relax or socialize. The only minor issue was that Wi-Fi could be a bit slow at times, but everything else made up for it. Great value for money.

The beach is right in front of the property, they have a beautiful yoga shala on yhe roof and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend for all kinds of travellers.

If you're backpacking through Kerala, this place is a gem. Hope Hostels has that perfect mix of comfort and social vibe. Met some amazing people here, and the staff really made it feel like home. The helipad area is peaceful but still close enough to the action. 10/10 for the experience.

I had an amazing stay at Hope Hostels in Varkala! The location near the helipad is perfect—just a short walk to the cliff and beach. The vibe is super chill, and it’s easy to meet other travellers. The staff were incredibly welcoming and always ready to help with recommendations. Clean rooms, big common areas, and great energy overall. Definitely coming back!

Amazing place to meet the fellow solo travellers with good common area which acts like a social boiling pot to ensure that one can interact with other travellers. big shout out to Joseph for being an amazing host who is always eager to help.

Location and atmosphere of the place is good but staff behavior is biased.

no doubt it's the best place to stay in varkala! top location, funny host and very clean. I met many travelers here from around the world.

Very social, even in off season. Great common space. Beds were comfy and clean. Highly recommend

Great and social hostel. The location is amazing and they have a really great common area outside. The only issue was that the dorm I was in didn't have an actual wall but only a plastic room divider towards the common area. This meant that I heard people party until 4am as if I was literally in the same room as them which made it impossible to sleep. As far as I can tell this only applies to room 106 if I remember correctly so just make sure you're not in that one

The hostel is perfectly located at the beach in the middle of all the shops/centre. However, when it comes to cleanliness of the hostel and especially the bathrooms&toilets it is very much lacking.

Location was good and met some lovely people to have dinner / drinks with. But It wasn't what we expected. Very dirty, luckily we had a private room with ensuite but would not have used the communal toilets/washrooms. Staff are quite unhelpful and were not able to answer any questions on the area / activities available and unfortunately the rooftop was closed.

The 1st floor Washroom was not well maintained. The common area was not well maintained. They allowed other people to party in the common area previous day with lights on. But the next day they said that they don't turn on lights after 11 p.m. The manager Joseph was rude and biased to some people. Rules are applicable only for certain people.

Great staff and atmosphere proper of an hostel, great space outside to paly and chat. Low on cleanliness and safety, I found.

Amazing location, staff and vibes here. Good lounge areas & good dorms. They have a bar and can arange movie nights. It’s right on the strip, so don’t be fooled by the bad food there!
