Nega Maluca Guesthouse

I had to leave the other day with the hope to not get sick from the mattress and pillow as they were very old and moldy. The bathroom and rest area was never cleaned. Really pity as the volunteers were nice to hung out with in the terrace.

Helaas niet zoals we hadden verwacht! Op Hostelworld wordt het aanbevolen als een 9+, maar in onze beleving was dit een slecht hostel. Weinig tot geen faciliteiten, niet schoon, werden in een andere dorm geplaatst, het stonk er naar benzine en hadden een dag geen water!!! Er waren 2 douches, waarvan 1 niet te gebruiken is. Dus 1 douche voor 3 grote dorm kamers (8/10 personen) is niet te doen!! Zoek je naar comfort boek dit hostel dan niet!!!

quarto sem ventilação suficiente, muito abafado com uma aparência muito feia, não há nenhum tipo de armário para guarda mochilas e sinal de descuido total com as instalações. banheiros totalmente despreparados. Mas pra quem busca apenas uma cama pra dormir sem nenhum tipo de conforto pode ser uma boa. localização muito boa.

Staff are really nice here. The private room was really run down, they also didn’t provide soap or towels which i’ve never experienced with a private room for a hostel before. My room was right by the front door which is only locked at night and this would have been fine if my door locked but the lock was jammed so a lot of the time wouldn’t lock which is a security issue as there are homeless people that sleep right outside the hostel sometimes. Location super, the rest terrible (and this from a long, very long traveled punk in 5 continents). Mattress similar to jail in poor countries. Desolated and poor equipment. Wouldn't recommend it all and definitely not for that price.

Really rundown place. I didnt like the location, i felt unsecure at night. They never organised anything there, with the group. But they helped me with my booking for morro de sao paolo

Before arriving I was told to transfer money for the booking and also to pay their 15$ bank fee. After I did that they told me that it was still missing about 30% eventhough I paid in full and my bank confirm that I sent the full amount. The hostel is dirty and often smells from the bathrooms. Pillows were moldy with black spots all over, I didn’t even want to check the mattress out of fear. Only positives were the view from the common space and location close to the old city.

For the last 7 years I’ve been staying in hostels. I’ve never complained about a hostel but this owner really is the most bipolar/ craziest man I have ever met in my life. I stayed in this hostel for 3 nights when he kept on repeating himself to us, complaining to us when we did nothing wrong we checked out before the correct time. We paid on time he was the rudest person/ staff I have ever encountered. Do not stay here! It’s such a run down old building nothing nice.

The place itself is pretty run down, facilities are old and a bit dirty. It was extremely hot in the rooms, there are no big lockers to store your stuff, just a tiny drawer that fits a laptop. The main issue is the area though, which is super unsafe at night. Its full of crackheads and beggars that are constantly approaching you and our group was robbed at knife point twice! Would not recommend staying in this area, you can find better places for cheaper especially if you’re travelling w other...

Amazing hostel with great people working there. They gave good advice on what to visit and were always so nice! The place is perfectly located for someone who doesn’t know Salvador. Safe and nice area as well

Hostel super bien placé avec un personnel disponible très sympathique! Par contre environnement tres serré, pas beaucoup de place pour cuisiner,on manque tres rapidement de place.

I really liked the hostel. It was very social, and easy to meet people. The common area is nice. Staff is great too! I felt very safe here.

This hostel has been such a great experience. The place felt casual and friendly and super social. Diego was truly an awesome host, with advice on anything of interest in Salvador. I felt super comfortable and I will definitely be staying there for my next visit!

Absolutely loved my stay here, one of my favourite hostels in all my travels! It’s one of those small hostels where you get to know everyone - it feels super homely and as a solo traveller it’s impossible that you won’t make friends. The staff are all lovely and give so many great recommendations. Only minus points as the facilities are basic and small for the number of people staying there. 10000% recommend, this hostel made my time in Salvador so special

Perfect location right in Old Town! It’s cash only. There’s a back area to chat/get to know others. A lot of people used the kitchen area but spots to get food nearby as well. I stayed in the room with AC, think it’s worth it. There’s an outlet next to each bed but half of them didn’t work. The lockers were too small to store anything like a laptop, but lots of space in the rooms. Beds were pretty uncomfortable and sheets didn’t stay on. I do think it’s the best hostel in the area.

Je recommande parceque l'hostel est super bien situé dans le centre historique,le personnel est disponible et gentil, et les lieux communs sont confortables mais assez petits pour que la sociabilisation se fasse facilement ! Néanmoins la propreté des espaces communs, des douches (seulement 3 douches pour une quarantaine de personnes) laisse parfois à désirer, mais on s'y fait rapidement !

Nega Maluca was a beautiful experience. beautiful people, beautiful place, amazing staff. perfect place to start visiting brazil and to share experiences and tips with others. i definitely recommend. also, position is great and i enjoyed the common space a lot :)

Great location and staff were v friendly. Nice havjng some outside space too with the balcony. Room was quite cramped with 4 bunk beds but otherwise all good!

Great vibe and super friendly staff. Maybe it’s time for an upgrade of the beds. One room had cockroaches. Not enough showers for that many people. Kitchen was clean and well-equipped. And the hostel is in a super lively and Safe location,

Super small common area. I don’t know if this helped to make people social, or if it made people feel like there wasn’t enough space to hang out and just didn’t socialize in the common area. Tough to say. But after the first night I really liked this place. I stayed in a private so my opinion is less valuable..but it was clean, good bed, AC, great staff, perfect location.

Favourite hostel on my trip to Brazil so far!! The hostel has such a warm and joyous atmosphere, Diego is the friendliest host I’ve ever met and has a wealth of stories and experiences he is happy to share. The location is perfect - just off the square in the historic centre so you can experience the buzzy nightlife and walk back safely. 10/10 thank you!
