Summer House Cairns

Disgusting kitchen covered in flies, really unhygienic. The shared facilities are nowhere near adequate for the amount of guests in the hostel, it’s overcrowded with never anywhere to sit. Damp and small room.

Avoid this place. The kitchen is tiny, dirty, and awful to use — I dreaded going in there. The beds are extremely uncomfortable, and I even broke out in hives after sleeping in mine. When I asked to change the sheets, staff were very rude about it. They also snapped at us over music before quiet hours had even started. Overall, a really poor experience.

Felt unsafe, not true to pictures! It looks like a prison and it was very dirty as well. I arrived late in the evening so there was no option to move places. I was awake because of the fire alarm at 2am. When I noticed I’ve got bed bugs, at the reception they were just laughing at me and didn’t take it serious. They said it was just a fly. I mean the bites were really bad and disgusting but their behaviour was even worse. Without an apoligy or refund I left the hostel with a terrible feeling...

Je déconseille fortement Summer house. Very mediocre establishment and located far from everything. The kitchen is horribly dirty and very impractical, not to mention the staff—especially a certain Luca, who is very disrespectful and unprofessional. I strongly do not recommend Summer House.

Everything was so dirty the room full of moisture everywhere, the corridor smelling the vomit, the bathroom full of faeces in the toilet and hair everywhere this is the worst hostel for the cleaness part that I did in Australia even the swimming pool nobody was taking care of it was full of leaf and soil.. I am really disappointed for the price you should hire more people to do the cleaning

If you are looking for the opportunity to make friendships, this is the right place. If you are looking for efficiency, comfort, a manager who doesn't control you like a jailer, you've come to the wrong place, my friend. I stayed here for 9 months in total and i stayed just cuz my friends were here, that's it. Trust me i know everything about this hostel and yes, what i said it's the truth, don't be scammed by all the reviews that they have, they ask for good reviews at the reception. Enjoy Aus...

Overall, very disappointed. The staff are quite unfriendly and seem to try to charge you extra whenever possible. There is absolutely no privacy in the rooms, and staff can enter multiple times in the morning — sometimes up to seven times between 10am and 12pm — which feels very intrusive. There are also quite a lot of cockroaches. We found some in both the room and the showers, which is really unacceptable. Honestly, it feels more like a supervised teenage camp than a hostel.

Die Mitarbeiter sind immer abgefuckt auf ihre Gäste. Geweckt wird man in der Regel durch Houskeeping und Staubsaugen zwischen 9-10 Uhr. Die Mitarbeiter fassen meine Sachen an. Schauen in den Spint von einem & schauen ganz offensichtlich in die Rucksäcke wenn sie offen sind. Die Südamerikasche Dominanz in dem Hostel ist spürbar. Keine Vorhänge an den Betten. Handtuch als Sichtschutz wird scheinbar nicht toleriert. Toiletten Spülung geht morgen und Abends nicht. Lecker bei der Hitze :)

We washed our clothes and hung them to dry in our dorm, not knowing this was not allowed as no one informed us. When we returned, housekeeping had removed everything (including our underwear) and put it in a plastic bag. Our laundry was wetter and smelled. We understand the rule, but better communication would have helped. They had our phone numbers but didn’t contact us first. We found this intrusive, and the staff was not polite. It was raining all day, so we couldn‘t use the clothesline.

I would not recommend this hostel at all. I felt incredibly uncomfortable here as a solo female traveller. I put my stuff in the locker and when I got back in the evening someone had tried to cut the lock off. Our room door did not shut properly and we weren’t sure if it was someone from the room or the staff. I explained to the staff and they put me in a room alone which also did not make me feel safe. I left after one night here but luckily they refunded me for the rest of my stay.

amazing hostel with great facilities like bar, volleyball court, swimming pool. friendly staff and backpackers from all over the world. one of the best hostels I've been to in Australia

This place feel like relax and good mood ! I really appreciate staying here. Also Luca at the reception is a really king person and very helpful!

It’s a really nice place. I met lovely people at the karaoke night and had a lot of fun in the volleyball tournament. If you are looking for new friends that’s the place. The staffs were really kind and supportive also.

Staff are friendly and the facilities are clean, it’s a great place to meet people I’ve made so many amazing friends here, they offer a shuttle to downtown too which is really nice.

I had a brilliant stay in summerhouse, the hostel is amazing there’s so much to do there with the pool volleyball court, ping pong tables and the bar! The staff were so friendly and welcoming especially leticia and Luca they were both so helpful with everything I needed! Would 100% stay here again whenever I’m in cairns for work!

We only stayed one night at summer house, so didn’t get the chance to use all the facilities but on arrival we got a unexpected upgrade to a private room which was great! Parking was free and accessible. Staff were nice and helpful.

Had a long stay here, and was always looking forward to extending! Loved the location; it was nice to walk the Esplanade. The common areas are very well maintained, especially with the high capacity of guests. Shoutout to Leticia and the other awesome staff members for making it an amazing stay. Was recommended this place by a friend, and I would definitely do the same. Looking forward to exploring other Summer House properties!

Super auberge la meilleur de cairns, fetisve mais pas bruyante, staff super surtout luca loin du centre ville mais il y a une navette

es un hostel que no està en el centro y se agradece por la tranquilidad, pero a la vez tiene shuffle bus para llevarte al centro. las instalaciones están siempre limpias (gracias a los housekeepers que están siempre atentos). el personal super majo y siempre dispuesto. muy muy recomendable. también hay muchas actividades que ayudan a conocer a otros guests. te dejan bicis 3h gratis. que más se puede pedir?

I get that it's supposed to have a summer beach vibe, but the smell of dampness and wet towels all over the building was awful.

The hostel is super good. I met nice people and the shuttle bus is a good option to go to the town. Leticia at the reception was really kind.

Absolutely love this hostel, the staff here really make it feel like home. Melinda hosts the best day trips and makes pancakes for everyone on sunday. Luca is also the most helpful and always has a smile on his face and asks about my day. 10/10 recommend this hostel!!
