The Social Hotel

+ Nada. Muy ruidoso, ruido en los pasillos de gente hablando todo el rato en alto por la noche, y la cocina es asquerosa. Los frigoríficos llenos de comida y huele fatal.

- Se podría decir que no me gusto NADA. La cama era super incomoda y se me clavaban los hierros. Un desastre.

+ When checking in, my 2 friends and I received our room key and took the lift up. The lift smelt of smoke, so we weren't off to a good impression. Once we walked into our room there were flies in the sink, in the shower, over the food in the kitchen (that was in the room) and one of our beds in an 8 bed room hadn't been made yet. We went to reception to say the room wasn't up to the standard shown in the photos and the staff member said it was our fault as we had seen pictures of a different style room (even though I clicked on the picture of the 8 bed room to show him, he then said maybe someone had swapped beds when they saw a bed was free (with no explanation for the flies other than they have long term guests). So offered us to change rooms. However, the other room was exactly the same with flies and not matching the room description. It also only had 2 beds free, so we would've had to have separate rooms. So we went back to reception and asked for a refund, which thankfully they allowed. Such a shame as the pictures and activities they provide look really good.

- Rummet var fullt med grejer, som aldrig slängdes. Det stod en skylt att de skulle göra detta men icke. De röktes och spelades musik på kvällarna/nätterna. Det stod skyltat att det ska vara tyst och rökfritt på gården och att de gav en varning och sedan blir man utkastad. Inget hände med de som rökte och var högljudda. De som bodde där bytte hotell istället. De kommer in i rummet och "städar" kl 7 på morgonen när man ligger och sover (vid den tiden man faktiskt somnat), så vaknar man och hela rummet luktar klor. Inte så mycket mer städat. Det kostar 30 dollar för att hyra nyckel till skåpet. Det kostar 5 dollar för en handduk. Det är dåligt utrustat kök. Det mesta är trasigt eller saknas. Aldrig igen

- The receptionist sounded like he’s a racist. There were ants in the bed. Toilets weren’t clean. The staff was rude

+ Good Location

- Here are some things i didn’t like: 1. Kitchen inside the room and guests cooking late hours at night. 2. People from outside the hostel comming into the room. 3. This is not a real hostel pople seem to live there long term. 4. Dirty room and bathroom (really messy) 5. People drinking alcohol inside the room. Would not recommend this hostel if you want to have a good sleep. Also the price don’t match with what the hostel offer.

- There’s no plug by the bed, very inconvenient; 4D experience in Mid-night when the police/ambulance siren occurs; If above facts can be expected when you book a bunk in an antique building near street, what made me disappointed is the staff behavior as below: No people works at the reception at 8 p.m. – turns out receptionist Luke is playing games happily at the inside common area; The check-in process took 20+ minutes and still not complete – because the system just broke down and there’s nothing the staff could do; When later you need additional assistance, you have to wait in second-hand smoke for Luke to finish his cigarette outside; If above facts are just an intern problem who just started working for 2 days with his Working-holiday-visa, what made me angry is the female manager condescending attitude as below: Because I booked one-month earlier I’m puzzled why I don’t get a bunk by the window as requested – when there’s one available when I checked in. I asked how the staff allocate bunks and the feedback was just rude and careless – I was interrupted multiple times and she threatened to evict me now if I ‘don’t lose that customer attitude’. The bitter satire that “you just booked a bunk and that’s it ” “the bunk you requested is not available for you and that’s it” “I’m the manager and don’t need you to tell me how to do my job” still hurts my feelings when I've left Australia and it's a disgrace to the whole hospitality industry. I’m proud of myself to pretend to calm down and be submissive at the moment without additional cost and hustle in mid night Sidney downtown. As a Genius3 Booking user I’ve taken 300+ flights and stayed in multiple hostels, it is absolutely astonishing that the F word can be thrown directly at customer. Will submit an official complaint.

- The cleaniess is terrible, especially the bathroom.

+ The staff was super nice and welcoming! Thank you for all the advice! The barbecue is a great idea to get together and is super convenient! The room was clean, the bathroom renewed and comfortable.

+ comfortable and convenient place to stay, they have activities to meet people. staff at the reception is amazing and so friendly. location is good, next to the station and lots of restaurants

- the staff comes in at 7.30am every morning into your room to clean loudly everything, i woke up every morning because of this. maybe would be better to come later not early in the morning

+ I really liked the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, as well as how clean and well-organized everything was. The staff were very helpful, and the location made it easy to get around and explore.

+ La personnel très accueillant et serviable,toujours disponible, bravo à Antoine et son équipe super ! Les chambres sont propres, les lits confortables et les espaces communs bien entretenus, la situation géographique est parfaite, très bonne ambiance les activités proposées (soirée barbecue), super séjour !
