Ten governments currently advise avoiding all travel to Lebanon or use an equivalent highest-level warning. As of 2026-05-15, official reasons include armed conflict, regional escalation, Hezbollah-Israel hostilities, terrorism risk, possible airspace restrictions, and flight disruption.
What Is Being Advised
Avoid all travel to Lebanon. If you are already there, check your own government's latest Lebanon page, register your presence if that service exists, monitor flight and airport updates, and follow local instructions.
Several official advisories apply to the whole country. Area-specific notes from Italy, France, and the UK add detail about named places and routes. The strongest current advice is to avoid all travel.
Where exactly this applies
Several advisories apply to Lebanon as a whole. Some also name specific areas, routes, or risks:
- Beirut and Mount Lebanon Governorate areas listed by the UK FCDO, including parts of Beirut and its southern suburbs, with Route 51 from central Beirut to Rafic Hariri International Airport excluded from the quoted restriction.
- Tripoli, North Lebanon Governorate, South Lebanon Governorate, Sidon District, Mount Lebanon Governorate, Akkar, Baalbek, and border-risk areas in Italian source notes.
- French source notes refer to red and orange security zones, targeted attacks, regional context, transport risks, seismic risks, and explosive remnants such as mines or submunitions.
- Germany cites USA/Israel-Iran fighting, Hezbollah-Israel hostilities, volatility after the April 8, 2026 ceasefire announcement, possible flight disruption, and terrorism risk.

Recent Official Updates
Germany updated its Lebanon travel warning on 2026-05-14 and warns against all travel, with German nationals called on to leave. Canada updated its page on 2026-05-08 and says to avoid all travel because of ongoing armed conflict and the risk of further airspace restrictions or flight disruption.
Australia's Smartraveller index listed Lebanon at its highest warning level after a 2026-04-29 update. Ireland updated its Lebanon advice on 2026-04-23 and says the security situation remains unstable and could deteriorate without warning.
France has April 2026 Lebanon security updates, including red zones formally advised against and orange zones advised against except for imperative reasons. The UK FCDO updated its Lebanon warning on 2026-04-10 and lists specific restrictions for parts of Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and Beirut's southern suburbs.
Switzerland published a 2026-04-02 update advising against travel to Lebanon. Italy's 2026-03-18 Viaggiare Sicuri update says to avoid travel because of the security situation, with notes on armed conflict, clashes, border risk, demonstrations, protests, flight disruption, and airport disruption.
Japan's 2026-03-16 notices keep Lebanon at Level 4, telling travelers to evacuate and avoid travel. New Zealand's SafeTravel page, last updated 2024-11-29 in this source set, still advises avoiding all travel because of the volatile security situation and risk of further deterioration.
Why This Affects Travel Plans
Official notes repeatedly flag fast-changing security conditions: conflict escalation, border risk, terrorism risk, demonstrations, airport disruption, and airspace restrictions. Those risks affect both new trips and exit plans for travelers already inside Lebanon.
Flight disruption appears in current advice from Germany, Canada, and Italy. If you are in Lebanon, leaving later may depend on route availability, airline schedules, airspace restrictions, and airport operations at the time.
The UK FCDO specifically tells people in Lebanon to register their presence for further updates. Use the same service from your own government if it exists, because direct official messages may change before a general travel page is rewritten.
