  • bijgewerkt 2026-05-15

As of 2026-05-15, most official advisories in this set say to avoid all travel to the Palestinian Territories. The current reasons are security risk, border restrictions, and possible transport disruption around crossings and nearby air traffic.

What Is Being Advised

Avoid all travel to the Palestinian Territories unless your own government's current advice gives a narrower instruction for your exact route. The strictest notices cover Gaza and the West Bank; Spain also names East Jerusalem, and Switzerland covers the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory.

If you are already in Gaza or the West Bank, check your own government's live page before moving. Germany's notices updated and checked on 2026-05-14 advise German nationals there to leave if possible.

Italy's 2026-05-06 update uses a lower warning level. It says to avoid non-essential travel, postpone travel, or reassess planned trips because of border restrictions and airport disruption.

Where exactly this applies
  • Gaza Strip: covered by Germany's avoid-all-travel warnings and Spain's complete discouragement of travel to Palestine.
  • West Bank: covered by Germany's avoid-all-travel warnings; Italy separately flags Nablus, Hebron, Jenin, and the wider Palestinian Territories for particular caution.
  • East Jerusalem: explicitly included in Spain's advice completely discouraging travel to Palestine.
  • Occupied Palestinian Territory: Switzerland advises against travel to the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory.
  • Northern Israel and northern Sinai: Germany's related notices warn about northern Israel north of road 85 and its extension, and about northern Sinai transit risks.
Organizations issuing warnings
  • Auswartiges Amt, Germany
  • Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland
  • Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia
  • Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Switzerland
  • Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Union Europea y Cooperacion, Spain
  • Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, Italy

Current Official Pattern

Five governments in this set advise avoiding all travel or use an equivalent highest-level restriction. Germany updated and checked two relevant notices on 2026-05-14, one for the Palestinian Territories and one for Israel; both warn against travel to Gaza and the West Bank, and both advise German nationals already there to leave if possible.

Australia's Smartraveller destination entry for Palestine was updated on 2026-05-06 and assigns its highest warning level. Ireland's DFA assigns its highest warning level for Palestine and strongly advises against all travel. Switzerland's FDFA update from 2026-03-06 advises against travel to the entire Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Spain completely discourages travel to Palestine, including East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza, because of the regional conflict context. Its notice also warns that crossings and nearby air traffic may be interrupted at any time.

Italy's 2026-05-06 Viaggiare Sicuri update points to border restrictions and airport disruption. Separate Italian safety notes from 2025-05-18 mark Nablus, Hebron, Jenin, Gaza, and the wider Palestinian Territories for particular caution, including terrorism and security risks.

Before Any Movement

Check your own government's live advice before booking, crossing a border, or changing accommodation. The source checks here were current on 2026-05-14, and several notices were updated in May 2026; use live official pages for route decisions.

Watch three practical failure points: land crossings, nearby airport disruption, and local authority instructions inside the West Bank or Gaza. The official inputs support postponing travel, avoiding non-essential travel at minimum, and verifying conditions before any movement.

If you are already in the area, rely on your own government's current advice and the strictest relevant notices for your route. Germany's current wording for Gaza and the West Bank includes leaving if possible for German nationals.

Source Notes

This article is based on six avoid-all-travel or equivalent individual notices, one avoid-non-essential-travel notice, and five Italian heightened-caution area notes. The highest traveler-facing level in the set is avoid all travel.
