The rooms are super clean and beds are secure with bedbug covers. The common toilets & bathrooms are plenty with warm water so there's no waiting . The dorms rooms we took faced an Amsterdam canal straight outside the window and it was beautiful.

Dirty beds. Not at all what was advertised and when you write a review elsewhere they effectively call you stupid (polite or no it was thinly veiled and others who read it agree with me.) The quilt we not so affectionally named 'poop-quilt' was not the worst of it. I came away having been DEVOURED by what I thought were some kind of mutant mosquitos... wrong. Mosquitos don't bite in clusters of three, but I will tell you what does. BED BUGS. Be warned. Don't waste your money. Edit in response to hostel: We messaged you guys- through the booking app customer service portal, 2 days after, on the 26th with a full in-depth report plus screens describing our issues which is hardly 'LONG' after our stay,... the whole trying to apportion the blame on the customer thing is getting old, fast. And as far as not approaching a member of staff in-person, we can't all be the kind of person who has both the confidence and the energy to go into situations that could cause distress for either party involved. And I won't apologise for that. Terrible hostel, terrible on-line customer service.

Bed bugs.

The quilts are so old that you can see every stain ever when holding them up to the sun, even though they look perfectly clean on the surface. Our nickname for our quilt was 'poop-quilt'. The quilts were also insufficient for keeping us warm... The lack of netting on the windows (none) meant I was eaten alive by mosquitos as I slept. The room was nothing like the pictures. The view was impossible to enjoy from the bed unless one stood up the whole time (not even if you sit on the bed could you see the view.) Normally when I have paid for a view, I can at least enjoy it while sitting on the bed... As a whole this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The curtains are also too small to fit the windows and cannot be fully pulled across, meaning that boat tours have a nice view of your bathroom door. The "student life" feel the hotel seems to be going for means no plaster or paint, and no flooring—we were hoping for chic based on the photos, not literally unfinished. For the price, this was unacceptable when compared to hotels of the same range. We had booked this hotel for after our flights in and then before the return flights. We ended up cancelling the second booking after our first stay (at full cost to add insult to injury...) in favour of booking a different hotel after our week tour. Edit: RE the 'hostel' response. One I am not stupid. Also, no closing the window doesn't help in a room so poorly ventilated I felt short of breath without an open window... thanks for the insulting suggestions though? Plus, I am not blind, the room I got was nothing like the cool fun raised beds in the pictures... For others, we now suspect that my mosquito bites (in clusters of 3) are in fact very likely bed bug bites. Fun!

There was bed bugs and we had to go elsewhere. I would recommend people double check before opening any luggage upon arrival at places as we took the place at first glance and thought it safe. But nope, riddled with bed bugs, and we had to quarantine our luggage when we got home.

This place has bed bugs. We stayed in the deluxe private room and when we got back late at night, we realised the bed and wall behind was swarming with bed bugs. Thankfully they gave us a full refund but we're still very annoyed at having to go to major effort to ensure we had no 'hitchhikers' coming back with us. Several reviews recently mention bed bugs so the place certainly knew they had a problem and still let us stay! So they are definitely not as caring as they say. Unfortunately we missed those reviews as we booked in advance. Avoid this place for your own peace of mind.

I found that there were bed bugs in the bed and could not get into contact with reception until the morning. They had no other rooms available so moved me to another hotel. The stuff we’re good about the situation and got me a tax as well. Unfortunately the night of discomfort did impact my stay

La cama tenía chinches o pulgas.

El precio… Pagamos 100€/noche para compartir una habitación con un total de 8 personas. Y desafortunadamente mi litera estaba infectada con chinches. Mi amiga y yo (compartiendo litera) amanecimos con muchísimas picaduras; lo cuál se notificó el último día pero no se pudo hacer nada al respecto.

Avoid this place at all costs. Bedbugs in the beds and staff doesn't seem to care too much.

After staying for nearly a week... Not a great social atmosphere or organized activities. The showers had no temperature control and either burned you or were freezing. The bathrooms were cleaned daily, but the toilets got dirty quickly given that there were only 4 for everyone to use. The female dorm door makes a beep every single time it is opened, the beds are all open and have no real privacy curtains, and the lockers are super loud, so if you are a light sleeper it is not ideal. I think the bedrooms/bathrooms really need an update, especially given the price I paid. Finally -- BED BUGS! I got nearly 50 painful and itchy bites on my arms, back, and legs. I assumed it was mosquitoes at first since the room opened up to the canal... but bed bug bites get worse days later, which is why it took me towards the end of the visit to realize. Going back, I have read reviews from 2 months ago and it seems they had this problem earlier this summer. I cannot blame any hostel for having bed bugs as they can easily travel with guests, and the management responded to me kindly and apologetically after I told them; however, this really was a bad experience and I wish I had spent a bit more money to stay at a hotel. I hope they have followed through and cleaned the room.

Bed bugs!!! Found a bed bug in my bed on my first night here. Then saw another one on the couch in the chill out area. Didn't sleep all night as they had no other beds available and I wasn't going to sleep on the couch either. Spoke to management the next day and they were really nice about it and when I requested a full refund, this was done straight away. There was also a mouse/rat in the courtyard.

It may be cheap, but it's dirty and there are BEDBUGS (I know that bedbugs do not always mean dirt, but in your place there is both 🤷🏻‍♀️)

El sitio visualmente está guay, la higiene de los baños está muy bien, servicios muy completos y todo tipos de facilidades. El personal en aspectos generales bastante amables. Cuando nosotros fuimos nos encontramos a muy poca gente con ganas de socializar, con los pocos que hablamos todo muy bien, el ambiente a mi personalmente me gustó mucho, pero no puedo obviar los problemas que tuvo mi hermana y tengo que tenerlas en cuenta para valorar el sitio. PROBLEMAS: Fui con mi hermana y esta sufrió de chinches y cada día despertaba con más picaduras y por parte del albergue no nos proporcionaron ninguna posible solución. Lo único que nos dijeron fue que habían cambiado los colchones recientemente y que lavaban la ropa de cama con frecuencia y que ya quitaron el tipi que se ve en fotos por si acaso lo cual nos da a entender que no era nada nuevo.

Das Hostel ist gut gelegen und das Personal ist freundlich. Die Zimmer sind auch schön und sehen zumindest äußerlich auch sauber aus. Jedoch ist die Hygiene-Situation problematisch. Ich musste nach meinem zweitätigen Aufenthalt in dem 8-bed-mixed-dorm feststellen, dass ich auf meinem Arm und am Hals über sechs rote Stiche hatte. Aufgrund meiner Reiseerfahrung aus Südost-Asien bin ich mir nahezu sicher, dass diese von Bettwanzen stammen, welche entweder in der Bettwäsche oder auf dem Gemeinschaftssofa (dem "Zelt") gewesen sein müssen. Auch die Sauberkeit in der Küche (die Küchenhandtücher rochen moderig und um die Mülleimer waren lauter Obstfliegen - regelmäßige Reinigung/Leerung?) sowie bei den Gemeinschaftswaschbecken war verbesserungswürdig. Jedenfalls in Europa sind Bettwanzen ein absolutes No-Go, weshalb diese Erfahrung leider rückblickend meinen Aufenthalt in diesem Hostel überschattete. Ich hoffe, dass die Abläufe insbesondere was Hygiene angeht hier professionalisiert werden können.

Not clean, kitchen, toilet and room... I found dirty garbages under my bed, You must to pay for let your bagages in a room, and it's not cheap. I was worried about possibly bed bugs.

The place seems nice, it is in a great location, the service is friendly, the kitchen is available, it is possible to rent a bike as well as leave your luggage after checking out. However, this place has two major disadvantages: cleanliness in the rooms and bedbugs. Women's hair in the bathroom, dust in the room. There is also the dirt under the wooden platform on which the mattress is placed: hair, dust, some t-shirt, a coin - items that fell into the gaps and stayed there forever. And unfortunately, at night I was bitten by bedbugs. I read the opinions of this place here and on booking and many people have already paid attention to bedbugs and cleanliness, and those opinions didn't change anything.

Au bout de la 2e nuit je me suis réveillée avec des piqures d'insectes bizarre : il s'agit de punaises de lit. Pas d'intimité dans les dortoirs (pas de rideaux)

Problème de punaises de lit...De prime abord, l'endroit est charmant et bien entretenu. Mais nous déconseillons vraiment de louer une chambre à l'Ecomama. Nous avions une chambre privée, sans aération et remplie... de puces de lit. Je n'avais pas lu les autres commentaires concernant les dortoirs et puces de lit...et je regrette car on ne se débarrasse pas facilement de ces horreurs et nous en avons ramené chez nous. À fuir absolument si vous ne souhaitez pas infester votre appartement/maison car ces bêtes se mettent PARTOUT (sac à dos, vêtements, livres...) et un traitement coûte 350 euros (à Paris). Au regard des autres commentaires, les propriétaires semblent s'en moquer complètement et ne feront rien pour lutter contre donc ne prenez pas le risque...

My friend and I both got bed bugs while staying at this hostel. Not to mention a pipe burst onto all of our luggage and our beds, where the one staff responded with "oh, I'm too baked for this right now". The hostel was extremely dark and bathrooms were always out of soap and clean towels to dry hands with. This hostel lacked an inviting environment, where everyone stuck to themselves (could be because there wasn't any group outings or nights out planned). Only good thing about this hostel was its location. If you're wanting to meet people and have a fun time with others, I would recommend staying somewhere else.

Had a pretty terrible stay here. Got bit by bed bugs, a burst pipe got all of our stuff wet with smelly water, the hostel was pretty empty of people, and the place was overall not very clean. The location was the only thing we liked.

BED BUG INFESTATION. I chose this more expensive hostel because it had good reviews and I dig the eco-friendly vibe. I woke up at 2am to horrendous bed bug bites on my arms, lil finger and ankles. I switched the light on and there were bed bugs in the bed with me and even more crawling on the walls. When I alerted staff to the bugs and showed them my arms they didn’t seem surprised in the slightest. I got the impression that they hoped I just wouldn’t say anything because of the time. They had no spare beds so they suggested that I sleep in the dirty Teepee (everyone sits there throughout the day and has a fabric cushions that could hold bugs too) or a dark storage room in the basement. I’m a solo female traveller and was forced to sleep on the sofa in the communal area with drunk men talking loudly around me in the kitchen after their pub crawl. I felt vulnerable the whole time and couldn’t sleep. To make matters worse, they took the items I left on my bed for laundry (they say it could’ve had bugs on them which is right) and they didn’t return my expensive travel towel. They’re refusing to help me replace it. I took pictures of the bed bugs and I’ll add them to this review if possible. I paid more than €50 euros for the night and only received a partial refund despite my horrible experience that was only the fault of the hostels poor organisation and hygiene protocols. Amsterdam has cleaner, cheaper and more helpful hostels that are a lot closer to the centre. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to a friend.

I was devoured by bedbugs during my first night. So much so that I literally had to LEAVE the room and go sleep in the common area. When confronted with the manager, they refused to refund a single cent of my payment. Stay away.

I enjoyed the hostel, but my bunk had BED BUGS. The staff commented that they were aware of the situation yet they didn't inform me about this before I checked in. I was not offered a refund since I had already checked out when the bites developed.

Cerca del centro, habitaciones buenas... sin embargo había chinches/pulgas que me picaron y amanecí con un brazo lleno de picaduras.

Désillusion... Dans un premier temps tout paraissait parfait cadre sympa, spacieux et stylé pas trop loin du centre j'étais plutôt contente pour une première fois en auberges de jeunesse mais malheureusement quelle surprise en rentrant à 2h du matin bien fatigué et trouver des PUCES DE LIT et sur les murs autour. Aucune chambre de libre je n'ai donc passée la première nuit dans la salle commune sur un fauteuil car leur solution a été de changer mes draps et de mettre une bonne rincée de produit insecticide (merci pour ma toxicité) tout cela pendant que les autres résidents dormait à côté et deviné quoi le lendemain rebelote de nouveau des puces dans mes draps c'est inadmissible et encore j'ai eu de la chance car la personne du lit juste en face avait des piqûres assez grosse de punaises de lit. La direction ne peut malheureusement rien faire pour moi le seul geste a été de m'offrir une bière ...franchement super. C'est vraiment dommage ...à fuir .️

Be carefull with the bed bugs.. Me and my friend stayed in Ecomama for a couple of nights. On the first night I noticed some bed bugs running through my pillow and I decided to swap beds to an empty one. Next morning, my friend, who slept on the top of the bunk beds, woke up covered in bites. She found like eight bed bugs under her pillow and in the duvet. We told the staff about the bed bugs but they acted like it was the first time they heard about it and did nothing. We will never stay in Ecomama again. It is a fancy place, good location but not very clean and with a plague...poor value for the money we paid :(
