Zermatt Youth Hostel

Smelled like mold when I arrived. Facilites were dirty. Staff was rude. They ran out of lockers so they wanted me to just leave my stuff under the stairs with no extra security. Absolutely ridiculous. I left and booked a near by bnb which was cleaner and safer. I do not recommend staying here at all. Find another place!!!

The only good was the view of the Matterhorn.

Noisy kid keep smashing the door. Staff can't read date from stuff in the fridge, i already wrote date but still ask for date. Make no sense.

I paid extra for a female only room, yet was put in a room with a man. If the front desk hadn’t been closed I would have just asked reception to be moved that night, but it was after hours. I let reception know at check out and they didn’t even offer to refund the difference, which I thought would be the least they could do. A badly run hostel with no redeeming qualities. From the small uncomfortable bed you will hear everything happening in the corridor and nearby rooms, so if you manage to drift off briefly then be prepared to be woken up at all hours by slamming doors and gross loud bodily functions from the toilets down the hall. The building has a lingering odour so the cleanliness is questionable. Front desk staff had a bad attitude and treat guests with contempt. Was so glad to get away from here.

Ya idk, not for me

We guy on front desk re-programmed our key cards before we headed out for dinner in Zermatt as we had added an extra night to our stay. Once we returned none of our cards worked to let us into the room. Front desk was shut up and the after hours emergency line didn’t work. We ended up having to try and sleep in the freezing lobby without any warm clothes as all our stuff was already locked in the room. Worst hostel for solo traveller's

I thought it was a youth hostel but it was an old man hostel.

If this is your only option for budget lodging it’s ok but if you have other options go there and not here

Dirty showers, mold on the shower curtains, gross breakfast unhelpful staff. It says online that you pay upon arrival, and then they proceeded to withdraw the full amount a week after I made the reservation without my authorization. We had a different room than we booked, and there was someones towel on our bed. When we told the front desk, they just said “move it yourself “.

Lovely helpful and friendly staff. Food not bad and good value. Very clean. Hot showers. No lift! But staff helped with our baggage.

The hostel is a good price for Zermatt. I would just like to say some of the staff was rude and not very welcoming. The free breakfast was nice and complete. the room is okay, but really cramp. Overall I would go again just for the low price

Very nice hostel with one of the best views possible, being able to see the Matterhorn from our window. Incredible staff who were really kind and helpful but the breakfast options were a little bit lacking.

For Zermatt the space was a good deal. The included breakfast was nice

Zero security in ski room. People constantly put in wrong dorm designation to that booked on check in (including myself). Cleanliness excellent - place is sterile in atmosphere too with bright lights in echoing hallways Good cold breakfast. Dinner available to buy. No kitchen (microwave & one fridge in dining room) which was not known prior arrival Mountain goats & fitness fanatics should go there, there is a free bus from central town but no-one seems to know where the stop is.

Very kind hosts (shout-out to Lorena for her helpfulness with check-in) and great location. The common space is very nice, just like the restaurant. The rooms are a tad too small and the matrasses a bit too hard for my liking. Otherwise though, I had a great stay and met nice people!

The room was clean and comfortable, and most of the staff were really warm and welcoming. However, the hostel is about 300m uphill with quite a few stairs, which can be tough if you’re carrying luggage. Food options for vegetarians were quite limited, and one kitchen staff member’s behavior made us uncomfortable. Overall, it’s a decent place with nice rooms, but accessibility and the dining experience could definitely be improved.

Overall ok, good view and friendly staff

Well-equipped building that handles large crowds well. The eight bunk room is cozy and there is an angled ceiling that is actually dangerous when dark (which happens often to not wake up sleeping guests at night and in the morning). The bunk room gets no ventilation without a window open, which is also a structural issue of this specifically. Otherwise, it is a fine option. It is not cheap unless you compare it to hotels, but it is a nonprofit organization so I trust they are making the most.

The room was fine. Beds comfortable. Great breakfast. Staff friendly enough. I did not like that the room did not include a secured locker for valuables. They had one by $2 CHF EACH TIme you used it was just ridiculous, which mean if you didn’t want to waste money- you had to leave your stuff unsecured or take it with you. Otherwise- ok. Clean and did the job. All ages, families, etc

Great views of the Matterhorn from the dorms, a little bit of a trek to get to the hostel but overall was a great stay. Included breakfast was nice, there’s no real ‘kitchen’ for guests to cook in but a fridge and microwave if you do make your own meals. The common area on the first floor has everything it needs to be a social area but we didn’t see much of a social atmosphere. This location in Switzerland doesn’t get much better! Would have been helpful to know part of the road leading up had construction, difficult to find my way at first.
