2060 The Newton Hostel

BED BUGS!!!!!! I am having an outbreak of bedbugs after staying in this hostel now!!!!

The hostel does look nice but the AC here was way too cold so many people in my room, me included got sick and i got bedbugs bites here!!

Firstly I'm gonna mention my only negative point: -to me personally they didn't respond to my calls and E-Mail when I had a question, so keep that in mind when making a reservation, however once you get to the hostel the staff is very friendly and helpful Now what's positive: -This is a VERY clean and modern hostel, bathrooms are cleaned multiple times a day and the rooms are clean as well, didn't notice anything like bedbugs either. -It's a great location to explore Madrid, we were able to reach most things by foot, the area is also nice, there are many Cafés (go to Mansilla café!!!) -It is intended for a young crowd, the guests are mostly under 25-30 and there are lots of activities, it is easy to make friends here -I would recommend this place for women, I cannot say for sure because I didn't travel alone, but I got the impression that this is a safe area and hostel for women to stay and I would chose to come here again if I was traveling alone. Since the guests are usually young and friendly travelers I didn't have any negative experience with creepy men, which sometimes can happen on hostels, so this hostel felt very safe to me. The beds have curtains so you get your privacy and I didn't have issues sleeping in a mixed-gender room -The free coffee and churros is nice, you also get one free beer at the rooftop -The wifi worked well (which is rare for hostels) -The beds were relatively comfortable, cannot complain

First I tried multiple times to check in online. Their website wouldn’t allow me to put the date info on my card so I could pay for the room. Unlucky for me the nice gentleman at the desk at 1 am had one bed for me. 303 bed #1. Unlucky for me because I woke up with bed bug bites on my right hand. Very clearly bed bug bites. Front desk didn’t do or say anything other than they were tell the cleaning lady. Made me rent a towel to shower which is normal 3 euros. What’s not normal is me itching my hand the entire 8 hour flight back to the US. You would think some grace on their part would have been appropriated but it certainly wasn’t expected. Plus it just sealed the fate of this review. Don’t stay here if you don’t have to.

Unsanitary place filled with bed bugs

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! I got bed bugs from staying here in December. I reached out for any sort of reimbursement and the hostel ghosted me after I informed them I had received bed bugs. I then had to spend my time and money to clean my entire wardrobe and bedding, along with purchasing medication to treat my sever bed bug bites. Don’t let the nice looks deceive you, I would definitely not recommend to anyone looking for a clean hostel.

A great experience! Perfect location, pretty central e very close to the metro/subway. I loved the spa and enjoy the common area. Bathroom was always clean. Unfortunately there were bedbugs on my bed, It was not good

Got very bad bed bugs here which ruined my overall trip to Madrid. Am covered in bites and will make for a very very uncomfortable 34 hour flight back home

Had high expectations for this place regarding the cleanliness after reading many reviews… unfortunately I found that the areas around my mattress and the walls in my bunk were definitely not cleaned and the floors were filthy. Worst of all I had an unfortunate run in with bedbugs… brought it to the attention of the staff and was told they would deal with it in the morning. If you’re planning on staying here make sure you do a proper check! I wish I did. The mattress was also concave and the A/C in the room kept shutting off so I woke up at 6am every morning in a puddle of my own sweat. Location was good and the company they have doing the tours and bar crawls were great.
