Deck on the Hills

My dorm was full of mold, the air was very humid and had a strong, musty smell of mold. When I asked if I could switch to a private room because of this, the staff was completely unhelpful and showed no understanding at all. In the end, I had to pay double for the last night. I find that very rude. On top of that, there were several cockroaches in the private room. I would not recommend this place!

Empty and dirty

I won't recommend this hostel based on my experience. poor staff, no security, no privacy in the room, small dorms, unclean bathrooms

They refused to deduct the deposit from the bill. Owner claimed that the deposit is hostelworld’s commission and guests pay it (not true). It’s also not that clean. I got a lot of flea bites during my stay and suspect from the cushions on the deck. The bed linen other than top sheet were not cleaned - staff just patted the dust off. Lockers are tiny so your pack will have to go on floor. Otherwise the staff are nice, the food is good (but expensive), the view is great.

We booked two bunk beds and what a disappointment. The room was so different compare to the pictures !! An abandoned place. there is no more maintenance, neither of the furniture nor of the exterior. We was alone in the dorm and the bathroom was dirty. I took some picture like that you can compare by your own. The view is still beautiful and really quiet. But complicated if you want a Tuktuk

We had mouldy room with no working lights in the bathroom. The smell was disgusting. We left early Staff was friendly but barely speaks English.

We booked a private room for just the one night. Me and my partner were disappointed in the cleanliness of the room, now we don’t expect Hilton standards but our towels were dirty along with the bedding in which these were all covered in stains and dirt that required brushing off. We also decided to get breakfast at the hostel around 0830 however none of the staff were present and we waited around 20 minutes then decided to leave. Not social when we visited. The hostels location were ok, but had to take Tuktuk everywhere. The commonareas were not clean and could really need some freshening up. Privat room was okay, but inside a separate apartment. Would not stay there again.

its pretty cheap and the people who Work there are very nice. when i was there IT wasnt really social (thats obvioulsy Just unlucky and Not the fault of the Hostel). the Hostel did feel kinda more Like a Restaurant than a Hostel but it was a very nice View and everything is Clean!

Wouldn’t book anything through the staff at the hostel. We had our own tuktuk but persuaded me to book a tuktuk through them into town due to no parking / expensive parking. Called his mate and tried charging 800, this is literally over double what it should be. I know it’s not much money but the principle is wrong. Expensive food & drink in here. Consistently tries talking you into booking trips through them at elevated prices. Go into town & barter!

The location is really nice and you have a nice view over the city.

The hostel was fine but quite grotty and run down. There was hardly anyone else staying there and it was really dead. It’s a bit of a drive out of Kandy but the view was amazing.

Relatively good location for Kandy. Hostel wasn’t too busy but the food and drinks were good. En-suite was clean and room had ac. Also bed had curtains and were decent. Only issue was trying to get PickMe drivers to come collect you

Good hostel for 1 night. Comfortable and clean. A little bit far away from city center.

Very chill place, fairly close to town with cheap tuktuks available. Quite basic but gorgeous views and nice social areas available for use. Overall was what we needed for one night in Kandy.

We spent three days in deck on the hils Kandy, and it was an amazing stay. The rooms were nice and cold at night. The best part of the stay is the outdoor area, the view at night is amazing. It’s super cosy and nice vibes. The staff was really helpful and nice. They can cook for you, we got Kottu, and it was sooo good. Definitely worth the stay! 🤗🤗⭐️

Only stayed one night but the view is ace, the staff are helpful, even paying for a subscription so I could watch the football. If I went back to Kandy I would stay there again. Maybe just slightly expensive for beers…

Loved this hostel! It has a great chillout area outside with stunning views. The Staff was so friendly and thoughtful. They have great food and an amazing mojito. Would definitely come back!!

3 of us stayed in a four bed dorm. As there was no other security/ lock on the front door, we locked the room door at midnight as check in was closed so was safe to assume no one else was arriving. We were awoken at 5am by a banging on the door and a drunk man in underwear was shown into the room with no explanation by the staff, and we were told off for locking the room. This made us feel quite uneasy. Staff were not particularly welcoming and hard to get food and drink

Mega cooles & chilliges Hostel! Sehr viele Chillmöglichkeiten. Super gemütlich eingerichtet. Super nettes Personal & super Küche! Haben dort morgens gefrühstückt & auch abends mal etwas bestellt. Der Inhaber kocht selbst & alles was wir gegessen haben war fantastisch! Nicht nur netter Hostelbesitzer sondern auch super Koch! Dorms sind super ausgestattet mit Vorhängen und Leselampe am Bett. Privatzimmer ebenfalls sehr nice.

Had a nice stay here but it was a bit far away from everything

I honestly can’t recommend this hostel enough. The rooms were great, bathroom was amazing with hot water yay! Also the common space/rooftop area was 10/10…the views were insane and the atmosphere was great. The host and staff were very welcoming too, highly recommend.

Only stayed one night as a stop over. Maybe I came on the wrong night but it is not social. Only a few mins in a tuktuk to the centre of Kandy. Hostel is located on a hill and has nothing around it. Cleanliness could be improved especially the showers. No locks on the door in the room and a tiny locker provided. My dorm was located behind the bar so was very noisy.

Definitely recommend, the room was perfect and clean and it has large outdoor social areas to meet people. It's a bit up in the hills from the main street, but that gives you an excellent view of the valley

Amazing place to stay. Beautiful view, great vibe, fantastic staff. Make sure you get down to the lake for sunset, then have a few beers on the deck during the evening.

Very nice rooftop bar area with chill atmosphere and super friendly staff. Food was 10/10 as well.
