Racing Mackerel Hostel

I came to Lagos one night early and needed a place to stay, this hostel did the job but here is your warning!! Location is good walking distance but the street noise is very loud (no fans/AC so windows HAVE to be open). The whole hostel could use a really good deep clean… and I mean EVERYTHING scrubbed down and cleaned out. Common areas were always dirty. The bathroom is not functional or practical to share with others. You’ll bunk with staff who don’t care about typical hostel ettiequte.

The staff weren’t that friendly. Very small hostel and no activities or events to get involved with. No privacy curtains on the beds. Bathroom was dirty and very small, there was no private or dry place to change once you’ve washed. Perhaps the only positive is that there is plenty of security.

Kitchen was super dirty and had a bad smell, the bathroom is super small. The toilets don’t have a proper door. However, the room itself is nice and clean, staff is very friendly and location is great.

The hostel is very dirty, staff don’t care to clean, weird vibe and felt kind of insecure. The shower are too small.

More of a homier, beach house hostel. If you’re looking for a more social hostel, I would recommend JJs yard which is downstairs. Main cons were that the beds are a bit uncomfortable, there’s no ac, and the woman’s bathroom is tinyyy. Other than that, it’s a great location and I felt decently clean and very safe!

The showers were quite dirty and don’t have enough privacy. The “shower curtains” are literally see through so everyone can just see you naked. The toilets had also no privacy in the men’s bathroom. Also, wifi was not working all the time

For the money, it’s great. The room itself was super clean and the lockers were spacious. However the bathroom situation was interesting for sure. The stall doors hardly closed as they were accordion doors, and when it did, there was a massive gap in one side and you couldn’t even sit normally on the toilet. Between that and the very see-through shower doors, I didn’t have much privacy in the bathroom. But honestly, if you can deal with that, the hostel was great and would recommend!!!

Racing Mackerel Hostel is very nicely situated, near the beach, restaurants and bars ! The personnel are very friendly and helpful. However, it was not the cleanest hostel and the women bathroom is very, very small. For the price we paid, it was a little bit overpriced, but still a very nice hostel !

Hostel situé tout près de la plage. Le staff était très gentil. Les toilettes et les douches étaient vraiment minuscules (on arrivait à peine à fermer la porte de la toilette…). En bref, hostel bon marché.

Hostel bien pour depanner 1 nuit. Positif : rue calme, proche de plusieurs plages, 2 min du centre. Cependant. Très bruyant au sein de lhostel même, des soirées durant mes 3 nuits, literie pas très confortable (ressort pour ma part). Porte qui claque h24. La cuisine et le salon sont sales, monticule de vaisselles. Très peu d'intimité dans les sanitaires : Porte de douche transparente, toilette qui ne se ferme pas. La chambre et les sanitaires sont propres (selon la soirée, surprise!).

Really nice staff, had some great talks with Blake and Maya. Nice little place to stay at! Would come here again :)

Place was good, does the job. Nothing special. Not a very social scene, but I got lucky with my roommates. No curtains, which wasn’t a problem for me. But just be aware.

Les salles de bain sont minuscules Il y a seulement deux douches (et les portes sont transparentes) et deux toilettes (et les portes ne ferment pas complètement). Le staff est correct, mais sans plus. Les chambres étaient correctes aussi, mais j’ajouterais des rideaux pour chaque lit. Les espaces communs sont petits. L’emplacement est bon.

Tolle Unterkunft mit super Lage, leider war nur das Badezimmer nicht ganz sauber und die Tür konnte man nicht richtig schließen

the beds are SUPER hard so I was glad I only stayed two nights there. it's just an ok place aside from the beds being FAR too firm.

Sono stato ad inizio ottobre, quindi c'erano pochi ospiti e questo ha reso i bagni e la cucina molto "agibili", puliti e soddisfacenti, ma non saprei dire cosa accade quando c'è il pienone. I letti sono comodi, ma la scaletta in metallo rumorosa e mancano delle tendine oscuranti. Seppur di notte non vi è alcun disturbo esterno, al mattino le auto che sfrecciano sotto la finestra rendono difficile svegliarsi tardi. Nel complesso fa il suo dovere.

Great place to stay in the old town. Everything close by supermarket a few steps. Friendly staff and hostel guests. Kitchen very good and washing machine! Free tea and brewed coffee...thank you Highly recommend

Es war super, das Personal ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit und da es nicht so groß war hat man sich schnell Wohlgefühlt. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet und die Lage ist top.

Rooms are spacious, with lights and outlets by each bed, though no curtains. Fans are enough as nights get cold. Kitchen is well equipped but lacks an oven. Bathrooms are very small, cramped, with little privacy and sometimes no toilet paper. No 24h reception: on my first night the fire alarm rang 15+ mins, and the owner was dismissive when contacted. Not a social hostel, but quiet and pleasant. Location excellent. 15 walking by the nearest beach

Small and relaxing hostel, it felt like staying in someone’s house but in a good way. Unfortunately not many people were staying so it didn’t feel too social but I enjoyed having the facilities mostly to myself! And they let me check in early, thanks!!

I really liked my stay here, it was chill and the staff were nice. great location right next to Nah Nah Nah burger joint and a great chicken spot for good food. I recommend!

Loved this hostel so much! The staff was amazing and the location is perfect - you're really fast at the beautiful beaches and also in the town :) Only negative aspect might be that the bathroom is really tiny like it says in the other reviews, but if you use it when nobody else is there (which is quite often the case) it works just fine:)

It's well located, but it is very very small, the girls' bathroom was very hard to get around and you don't get privacy at all to go to the toilet or to take your shower.. the staff is mainly occupied with volunteers which is great, but the hours at the reception weren't respected and there was one guy working there blasting music in the main area at 9am... in a town where people go out a lot and would like to sleep. Mainly okay, but definitely some improvements would be required in my opinion.

My friend and I stayed at JJ's Hostel for half the time and Racing Mackerel the other half. RM was very nice and we felt very welcomed and well hosted, but the atmosphere was lacking in comparison. Staff were very friendly and kind. Bathroom and shower stalls were a bit cramped but clean!

L'hostel est super ! Pas trop grand, bien placé, la cuisine est très bien équipée. Seuls bémols sont les salles de bains pas pratiques vu qu'elles partagent toilettes et douches dans un petit espace et le fait que l'étage d'en dessous est un autre hostel un peu plus fêtard que le Racing Mackerel. A part ça, j'ai passé un très bon séjour et la ville était très agréable !

A small hostel, gender separated, just a few rooms. Good kitchen. A small, not so comfy bathroom, which wasn't really clean.. Really nice and young stuff, who care about everything. All and all a nice hostel!

Amazing Staff, the Rooms are really cute, the Kitchen is really well equipped and everything is very clean. We really enjoyed our stay here🌈
