It’s out of the way of the town so you are kind of trapped to eat and do all your activities within Roy’s villa. Wifi didn’t reach the bedrooms and at 35$ a night it’s not really ideal
Roy’s Villa is a beautiful hostel in Sigirya. The staff are welcoming and make an effort to make you feel at home and at ease. Plenty activities to partake in. Downsides are curfew, prices are quite expensive in comparison to the rest of Sri Lanka. The hostel was having work done to it, so felt a little like a building site. Otherwise, it is beautiful and the rooms are clean and modern.
The hostel facilities were lovely and the staff were extremely attentive, however there are lots of extras costs (overpriced). Everything from coffee to food to activities is taxed. It is much more hotel prices/experience than hostel. I haven’t been anywhere else in Sri Lanka that has cost as much as Roy’s with so little extras which I found a bit stressful at times. Less family community vibes and more hotel. The staff did make a great effort just be conscious of what you are looking for.
The energy of the place does not promote relaxation and unwinding.
Roy's is a beautiful place, but feels very restrictive We booked Roy’s Villa with high expectations. It’s not cheap, but very well rated. Upon arrival, we were genuinely impressed: beautiful huts, an open and relaxing atmosphere, and extremely friendly staff. That part is easily a 10/10. The range of activities also looked great at first, but our experience quickly changed. On our first morning, we wanted to join a sunrise hike. Ein super Ort um neue Leute kennenzulernen und es ist eine lockere Atmosphäre. Alle Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Es gibt viele Ausflüge die man buchen kann. Es könnte jedoch das Frühstück im Preis mit inbegriffen sein da die Nacht schon eher teuer ist.
It's a great place to meet new people and it's a relaxed atmosphere. all the staff are very friendly and helpful. there are many excursions that you can book. however, breakfast could be included in the price as the night is already quite expensive.
Ich war 3 Nächte und würde wieder kommen. Die Stimmung war super und auch die Aktivitäten waren klasse. Jedoch fand ich es als Budget Backpackerin doch sehr teuer. Nicht nur die Übernachtungen haben einen hohen Preis sondern auch die Aktivitäten für die man extra zahlen muss, auch die Preise für Getränke und Essen dort sind sehr hoch. Roy hat das clever gemacht und alles in Dollar angegeben so das es billig wirkt. Mein Bettbezug war schmutzig, wurde aber schnell nach Nachfrage gewechselt...
I stayed 3 nights and would come again. The atmosphere was great and the activities were also class. However I found it to be a budget backpacker yet very expensive. Not only the overnight stays have a high price but also the activities for which you have to pay extra, also the prices for drinks and food there are very high. Roy did this cleverly and indicated everything in dollars so that it looks cheap. My bedbezug was dirty but was quickly changed on demand.
We wanted to love this place as much as those who recommended it but sadly that wasn’t the case. The location and property is beautiful, however it was overbooked so me and my friend had to share a bed for a slightly discounted rate (we know others at the same time we’re faced with this issue). As it’s remote you have limited food options, including a VERY limited menu at Roy’s which is not great. We were told to attend family dinner to even be considered to book onto excursions. A real ...
We booked Roy’s after hearing great things and received a lovely free upgrade on arrival. However, the stay felt quite structured, with little flexibility to plan our own activities. For all the transport to hikes we needed to pay 5 dollars. The family dinners (~$9) are good but feel almost mandatory, and overall prices are closer to European levels. The dinner speech also made it feel like independent travelers aren’t very welcome.
I didn’t mind Roy’s overall, however I thought the place was overpriced and wasn’t too impressed they didn’t have any cash change when I paid my bill (I had to give a larger tip because of this). The facilities were nice and clean, the place is social, and the pool was refreshing. The activities were good, free cooking class was a highlight.

What a great stay at Roy’s Villa! You feel like part of the family. You may think it’s far, but that’s what make Roy’s unique. Set amongst the paddy fields. Cycling around to town is easy. There are plenty of activities and if you want to do anything else, they are happy to help you make it work. Lovely clean room and property, big comfy bed. Best family dinners, karaoke is a great time! Will definitely be seeing them again soon ☺️

Truly the best hostel! The staff are so kind and accommodating, the atmosphere and community couldn’t be beaten. We had the best time here and with so many different activities to take part in, you’ll never be bored. We really enjoyed the yoga, lake swimming and hikes. Thank you!!!!

Great hostel and would definitely recommend. It was super social and the staff were so lovely! Only problem we had was that it seemed pretty disorganised. They told us they had a surprise and “upgraded us to a private room” however when we got to the room it was a tiny box room which shared a ceiling with another private room. We would’ve rather had the shared room which we originally booked as it was much more spacious and value for money.
The best place which makes most of the people come back to visit sri lanka again and again a very warm and professional staff i would truly recommend it to anyone coming to sigriya thanks for the best time and the hospitality a big appreciation to Roy’s family everyone by his name. Oussama…
Wij hebben hier 3 dagen gezeten en het was geweldig. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk en helpt je met liefde om de juiste activiteiten en verdere doorreis te plannen. Het eten is goed en voor ieder wat wils. De quiznight met Gim moet je doen (no hints) en ook de karaoke was er groot succes.
We have been here for 3 days and it was great. I can recommend it to everyone. The staff is very friendly and lovingly helps you to plan the right activities and further round trip. The food is good and for everyone who wants. The quiz night with Gim you must do (no hints) and also the karaoke was a great success.
Amazing stay at Roy’s. They looked after me and I met so many new people.
I think I’ll think about this team for the rest of my life. They made me feel so comfortable, and cared for that it was hard to not fall in love with Sri Lanka after that.

Eines der schönsten und saubersten Hostel, die ich je gesehen habe! Das Personal ist super hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend. Etwas teurer als die anderen Hostels, aber dafür hat es echt Stil.
One of the most beautiful and cleanest hostels I have ever seen! the staff is super helpful and friendly. a little more expensive than the other hostels, but for that it has real style.
Roy’s Villa hostel is amazing place! Great staff that are really happy to just chat but also help you out whenever. Great beds and spacious area for yourself and everything is very clean. The general atmosphere incl. the other guests was amazing! I had a great time and definitely recommend this if you like a nice + chilled communical and social hostel.

I stayed in an 8-person dorm, which was surprisingly spacious and very comfortable. You get a large bed all to yourself, and the bathrooms and toilets were always super clean. The hostel offers great events, and relaxing by the pool was a highlight as well. The staff is amazing, the family dinners are delicious, and the overall atmosphere is very social. I absolutely loved it!
The most amazing hostel in sigriya ! Wouldn’t book anywhere else ! Was recommended by a friend, the staff are the most lovely people , they want to know you , go above and beyond to help ! They organise all things for you so no added stress ! It’s always the little things they do to go above and beyond ! First time solo travelling and felt very at peace !! Thank you so much ! Would highly recommend if in the sigriya area
