The worst hostel experience we’ve ever had. At check-in, the manager ignored us for over 20 minutes while speaking in Sinhalese, even though we were clearly waiting after a long journey. The room fridge was dirty and smelly, and the kitchen and common dishes were filthy. At check-out, they refused to help us call a taxi when our app didn’t work. Zero hospitality. Only the location is good. We wouldn’t return.
Shockingly rude and unhelpful staff. Refused to give any local recommendations or advice. No social atmosphere. Overpriced cafe.
One of those European-owned hostels where nothing has soul. Give back to the locals!
This stay was extremely disappointing. We had booked a six bed dorm and was proceeded to be put into an eight bed dorm when I explained there must have been a mistake they acknowledged and moved us to the six. Whereby the manager came down told us we were rude for putting our stuff on the bed and that we weren’t in this room. We were moved back to the eight bed dorm with the promise that only 6 people would be in it. Of course that wasn’t the case with 8 people in it. The showers were rubbis...

I wouldn't come back, they didn't bring me any information despite my insistence, if the electricity broke in the room, I said so and they didn't do anything, without being able to charge or fan, I wouldn't come back!
Don’t go here alone as a woman. The hostel owner came into my room at midnight because he “wanted to use the AC”. He woke me up, lay in one of the other beds and asked if I wanted to watch Netflix with him. Then he asked why I was trying to sleep when he could be giving me a massage.
Würde ich nicht empfehlen! Der Besitzer ist nachts in unserem Zimmer geschlafen, er Kam nach dem wir schon geschlafen haben. Wäsche ist sehr teuer und man muss zahlen um die Wasserflasche aufzufüllen. Meine Wäsche ist verloren, obwohl ich der einzige Gast war.
I wouldn't recommend it! the owner slept in our room last night, he came after we had already slept. laundry is very expensive and you have to pay to refill the water bottle. my laundry is lost, although I was the only guest.
The dorms are unbearable, it was easily 40 degrees Celsius and the fan doesn't blow towards the upper beds. That means the air is stagnant and it's much colder outside than inside. As a result, several people from the dorm slept outside on the balcony. (There are already two beds there, as if they knew it would be unbearable inside). I ended up leaving early. The hostel has potential and a nice view, but unfortunately it's relatively dirty, especially in the bathroom.
Booked an AC dorm, was braught to the non AC. when talking to the staff there was no "uh sorry we mixed up the bookings" or sth like this, it was an instant "yeah, you can stay there and pay less or we cancel your booking completely". it seems that they do it on purpose to fill the rooms. Happened to other people as well. the non AC room is a sauna with no fans reaching the top bunks. Several people slept on the balcony bcs of that. I left after one day and stayed in a little guesthouse for less
The stay was okay. Tangalle is a beautiful place, but this hostel was a bit dirty. They also offer you food and it take very long to get it. The people were mainly really nice and helpful. Also when our bed and the room was full of bugs. But the the day after there was no sorry and it was really awful with all the bugs and insects in the room and our bed.

I really enjoy my stay here. The staf was really nice and kind and the hostel is just in front of the sea with a beautiful view ! I definitely recommend to stay here for one night and even for a few days. I will come back ☺️
We had wonderful days in Tangalle. We received a very warm welcome at the hostel and felt comfortable right away. The room as well as the bathroom are clean. The view from the room is of the sea—charming. There are tables right by the ocean. The entire staff is very friendly and motivated.
We loved our stay here. Cannot thank Shashi and his family enough for going above and beyond to make our stay so comfortable and fun! We stayed here over new year and it was one of our favourite days of our whole trip. Made memories we will cherish forever. The rooms were very comfortable and AC worked well. Wifi was great. We would 100% recommend this place for anyone going to tangalle!
One of the best places I stayed at! Would‘ve spent all my time here if I could! The owners are very kind, the chill out areas are so great, the beach directly put the door, depending on which bed you‘re in, you can even see the sea from it. Really loved it and hoping to come back 🫶🏽
Had an amazing time. Maybe add more space to spread out in the room (small table/ wardrobe)
The owner was friendly but this is not a social hostel. Location to the beach is very good. Some areas for improvement: WiFi is weak and does not extend to the rooms upstairs. Some social activities for people to join. The shower in the private room was covered in black mould. Lots of potential but I do not recommend.
Beautiful hostel right at the beach, wonderful staff who have taken great care of me! Would come back anytime, highly recommend :)
it's more a place to sleep. not very social. didn't like that the toilet seat wasn't attached to the bowl. good location beside the beach
Perfect location at the beach great view from the large balcony where you can chill and lounge. No kitchen is but they provide hot water. It’s a quiet place there are no social hosts. If you want to hang out you need to be active, talk to the other guests. I extended my stay and I will come back again. Some reviews criticized the host for lack of friendliness. That is not true it is a misconception . They are polite and very helpful, just a bit reserved, not uber active as a social hosts.

Very beautiful hostel!! The location is amazing, the beach is just across the road. The staff is incredibly friendly and nice and especially the owner goes above and beyond to help and support you with everything! Thank you a lot and see you hopefully again😊
Great location, right on the beach with wonderful views, chilled vibe. No tea/coffee facilities and their restaurant is comparatively expensive.
I loved the stay until the last night when half the people staying there got robbed (i was lucky). And then when i wanted to leave there was 3 guys (local),one with a knife screaming and walking my way. I am safe now but this was the scariest experience since my almost 4 month travel journey. I don't know what exactly happend there and it might just been a one time thing but it felt different. It might sound like a lie but i would never write something like this if it wouldn't be true.
Perfekt zum runterkommen. Der schönste Ausblick, den ich jemals hatte. Das Hostel liegt direkt am Strand und hat einen riesigen Balkon. Das Restaurant ist auch toll. Leider gab es in meinem Dorm keine Klimaanlage und es war extrem heiß aber die Aussicht aus dem Zimmer war es Wert!! Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
The hostel is directly on the beach and has a huge balcony. the restaurant is also great. unfortunately there was no air conditioning in my dorm and it was extremely hot but the view from the room was worth it!! the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Perfect location. Clean and nice bedrooms and common areas. The AC had a leak and the curtains of the beds were transparent.
Die Untekunft liegt direkt am Strand und hat auch durch den Balkon einen super Ausblick. Das dazu gehörende Restaurant bereitet super leckeres, gesundes Essen zu. Leider war es in den Dorms sehr heiß, liegt aber auch einfach an der Lage. Die Dusch und WC Bereiche waren etwas eng, aber ok. Es ist nicht sehr auf social Aktivitäten ausgelegt, aber ich kann es trotzdem empfehlen.
The Untekunft is located directly on the beach and also has a great view through the balcony. The restaurant that belongs to it serves super delicious, healthy Essen too. Unfortunately it was very hot in the Dorms, but also just right. The Shower and WC areas were a little tight, but okay. It's not very designed for social activities, but I can recommend it anyway.
