Wake Up Weligama

Wake up weligama really had such bad vibes when we arrived. The common area is really cramped and right outside the bedroom- so felt like a party hostel and the room advertised was for 6 people we were placed in an 8 bed- you also had to pay for water. The owner seemed like a nice guy and the bathroom was clean but the room was dirty and the mosquito nets are gross

The common area is super duper small. One short table knee high and then benches around it. Also right outside the dorms so you can hear people whispering from your room cause door has a slit in it. Yes the owner is nice but I think he’s extra nice to the girls kinda obvious. AC gets turned off early in the morning (I woke up at 9 very warm) and they don’t turn them on till later than most hostels. Also location is not the best either, farther from beach than other hostels.

The cleanliness of this place is extremely questionable. All common areas are very run down, there is dirty dishes, empty beer cans and sticky floors. The beds & matresses are old, very hard and uncomfortable to sleep in. However, the people staying at this hostel are very friendly and social. It is easy to form new connections and friendships. If you are fine with little sleep and questionable hygiene and a lot of party, this is the place to be!

The host was very nice but my stay in the private room was a let down,no towels not clean, everything falling apart, dog p** everywhere outside the accommodation and not looked after. The host was very friendly.

The hostel was nice and had a good vibe. The planned days and nights was easy to get involved in and was quite social. However, the staff were not very professional with multiple occasions where nobody was in and people needed to check in/out. The private room was a few mins walk around the corner but with a rlly sweet family, if u want to feel separated then it works well.

Great location close to the beach, lots of activities planned and easy to socialize. Unfortunately, the common area is super small and was in front of my dorm, so it was always loud and the smell of cigarettes in the dorm. Would have been nice if there would be different areas to sit down, really or to eat (maybe downstairs), like this it felt pretty overwhelming for me. Kitchen and rooms were pretty dirty, the bathrooms were cleaned at 9 am, when everyone was still sleeping or getting ready.

Sociaal hostel en dichtbij het strand. De gemiddelde leeftijd lag erg laag toen ik er was. Gemeenschappelijke ruimte was erg klein voor het aantal mensen in het hostel. De schoonmaker stond om 9uur al in de kamer en gaf mij geen ruimte om me om te kleden in de vrouwelijke dorm. Toen ik dat in de badkamer probeerde begon hij op de deur te kloppen. Na een paar dagen geswitcht naar een ander hostel

Very social staff are friendly and easy to get to know people. I booked 6 bed dorm and on arrival was put in an 8 bed, when I asked about this they brushed over it and then I asked again and got put in the 6 bed which had 2 beds free. Rooms aren’t very clean, sink clogging in bathroom, sheets they give very thin and don’t fit the bed, not the most organized but it’s a good location and cheap.

This is my second time staying at wake up because I love it so much. The owner Mahesh is great and so helpful, the volunteers are great and all the guests are super social. There are activities planned everyday so it’s great to meet people as a solo traveller. Definitely recommend staying here

The hostel has a really nice and chill vibe. The owner and volunteers are very nice and I've had a great time there. The location is also good, not on the busy main road but you can still be at the beach in 5 min walking.

The stay at wake up Weligama was amazing. Everyone was really kind and welcoming, the location was perfect and the atmosphere was so nice! I can recommend this a lot and I would come back anytime again.

It’s been amazing! The people are lovely, it’s very social and I felt really safe. There are a lot of group activities you can join or do your own thing. Overall I loved my time there and would recommend Wake up Weligama definitely:)

Great hostel with an amazing atmosphere. There are always activities planned, which makes it really easy to meet people, but at the same time there’s a perfect balance between party nights and chill evenings. The place itself is super nice, with paintings all over the walls that give it a lot of character. And a big plus: it’s quiet, no road noise, so you can actually rest when you need to. Overall, a place where you feel good right away.

Bonne auberge pour faire des rencontres, plusieurs activités sont proposés et les volontaires sont top. Le propriétaire a l’air gentil mais il ne s’intéresse à vous que si vous êtes une femme.. La localisation est ok !

The hostel is really nice. There are always a lit of nice activities that you can join. It is a social hostel. I would recommend it!

One of my fave hostels ever (even though the rooms were a little basic) Ive never experienced a hostel with such social, close family vibes before! The whole hostel spends loads of time together, every day there is an itinerary of social activities to do as a group, and the owner, Mahesh is always present. He’s a wonderful, funny kind guy who helps with everything. Wish i stayed longer.

Wow!! What an amazing time I had here. This hostel is super social and organizes many different activities throughout the day, and the owner is truly amazing; he is such a sweet, funny man. I could have happily stayed here for weeks! I will definitely be back, highly recommended.

Ten out of ten experience, the hostel has a very homey feel and is perfect for socialising if you’re up to it but also great if you just want some alone time. Loads of activities you can join and amazing staff. They also have a cooperation with a surf school so perfect for improving your skills🏄🏼‍♀️

i had an amazing time in the hostel. I booked for 3 nights and ended up extending for 9 nights! It really is the best hostel I have stayed in. It is very social and the owner is a warm and welcoming person. Also the volunteers were amazing!! I would recommend it 100% and I will definetely come back!!!!

Such a social hostel. Everyone does everything together . In the morning surfing and breakfast, at night family dinner ,party or movie nights .Hostel owner is such a cutie. Never met a nicer person 🫶🏻

Had the best time staying here! Really felt comfortable right away. The owner is soo sweet and funny. Nice chill areas, family dinner,movie nights and parties! Perfect location too next to a mixture of local food and fancier restaurants. Loved it ❤️

I absolutely loved this hostel! Really feels like a home away from home and Mahesh makes everyone feel welcome☺️ Super social and always fun activities going on! I loved going surfing with everyone together and the family dinners were delicious!!! Can’t wait to come back
