Meraki Hostel

Nothing like the photos on booking. It’s dated, dingy & in desperate need of a facelift. It is not in Sintra it’s 7.5 km away a 30 minute ride from train station and €12 uber fee. Rented a private room with double bed & sea-view. Sea-view is a tiny crack between two buildings. Room was very cold, very damp and very mouldy. Cold wet synthetic bedsheets. My trousers were damp when I sat on the bed. Texted owner for a heater? No. Candles to dry the air? No. she turned up banging on my door very angry as I got her out of bed (it was 20.20 Reception closes 21.00) gave me a small air dryer and left with a sour face. That was my welcome. Opened the window for some air the strongest smell of cooked fish billowed in from their restaurant chimney below. The ‘curtain’ is 5cm too small on either side impossible to open or close as the mouldy material stuck to the metal bar. The toilets are ridiculous. You have to sit sideways on the toilet or straddle on. There’s no room for your knees. To add insult to injury the bed was full of big black blood sucking fleas/bed bugs. A cocktail of cold damp mouldy fishy bug infested room couldn’t be more pleasant on holiday! Furthermore, room is on main road with loud drunkards till 4am at bar next door then heavy traffic starts at 6am . Couldn’t call for help couldn’t sleep. Add more insult to my ravaged body in horrible pain showers not working. Waited till 7:30am to try to check out but reception closed. Texted owner got answer an hour later & said she won’t be around till 11am. Asked for a refund and said I needed immediate medical attention & had to leave. Texted back I could pick up my money at their restaurant next door. A few minutes later she texted again saying she saw me on camera pick the money & she hoped I healed. Nō apologies nō words of consolation.

Die Krönung waren leider die Bettwanzen. Horror Leider hat sich die Betreiberin auch noch nicht auf meine Mail hin gemeldet. Sehr kleines WC, dreckige Duschen (voll mit fremdem Zeug, Haare, Rasierer, Unterwäsche, leere Duschpackungen)
