Bed bugs, shower was broken, lock doesn’t work

Booked it based on the excellent reviews but unfortunately the actual hotel wasn't even close to the reviews. I shared my experiences with the manager during my stay and he would dismiss then saying the rooms were clean, the internet was fine for everyone else and he said no one else has seen bedbugs when it was quite the conversation among guests. A lot of people had them in their rooms. I'm normally pretty forgiving and just wont write a bad review but when I checked out the manager pressured me to write him a 5 star review before he would give me my bags.

WARNING BED BUGS! I had a booking recently at 4U and as soon as I walked into the hostel I noticed it was filthy. I wouldn’t usually check the beds but given the lack of hygiene around the hostel I did on this occasion and praise the lord because what I found was a FAMILY of bed bugs awaiting my arrival, please refer to the below photos. The bed next to mine also had bed bugs. After telling the volunteers I was given another room but the blanket of my new bed had gum or some other suspicious substance stuck to it (refer to photos). I left after about 30 minutes of arriving. I would not usually write negative reviews but given the hygiene of this place I had to. Please read through the negative reviews for this place on booking . com to get a better idea of what this hostel is like. It appears the manager will offer discounts upon checkout for 5 star reviews AND cancel people’s booking if he thinks they will leave a negative review. I saw a review from a few weeks ago also advising that there was bed bugs so this has clearly been an ongoing problem for some time. PLEASE do not be fooled by the positive reviews. If you have any sort of self respect you will not book here.

Location/vibes were both pretty great. The volunteers were lovely and dealt with the initial bed bug issue well, the manager however was overheard lying to staff, saying it was "just ticks". This was an infestation level that upon research was not just 1/2 days worth of bed bugs. The hostel itself was not clean at all and staff/volunteers were overheard saying that the bathroom doesn't get cleaned (it shows) & they don't change the blankets (witnessed this being the case). BBQ was nice.

Got horrific bed bugs here and I found a roach in my bed.

Stephan was super helpful, a wealth of information and helped me organise a bed last minute. great hostel but the hygiene of the beds leaves a lot to be desired. my pillow was wet and the cover hadn't been changed, i woke up through the night on multiple occassions due to mould/dustmites, and then i caught bed bugs! The toilet and shower was in an okay condition considering it was a 10 bed dorm.
