Vertigo Hostel Marseille

This was my 3 stay at Vertigo Hostel; before, it was ok, but this time the quality seriously declined. First, I was put into a room with three men. One started flirting with me the other day, but the next day, when I didn't want to talk to him, he became aggressive and verbally abusive. This situation was fixed on the reception; I was put into another room with girls. The girls told me that there was a rotation of neighbours in the room, and when I returned home from the vacation, I found bed bug bites on my body, which, as I believe, came from the second room. For me this is really sad as I love this hostel and showed loyalty to it, but this time it was really stressful. I hope the hygiene situation will be fixed.

Beds could be more comfortable, hostel can add curtains to them. Also I didn't like that in our three woman room was added a man. He was snoring and making my last night not really comfortable. Maybe the hostel can introduce options like women-only rooms.

Lo mejor es la atmósfera sociable que tiene. Tiene 2 espacios de cocina que es bueno y lavadora y secadora que se pagan aparte (lavadora 5€ secadora 2€). Por otro lado el higene es muy malo, yo y algunos compañeros de pieza teníamos bed bugs y despertamos todos picados. GENTE DE RECEPCIÓN MUY MUY MUY DESAGRADABLE! Solo había una chica rubia y un chico agradables, pero los demás definitivamente no sirven para este tipo de trabajos, un mal trato y 0 cordialidad.

Worst hostel ever, avoid at all costs. My friends and I stayed in a private 4 person room and discovered a huge amount of black mold in our shower and sink. Room clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly as the floors were covered in dirt and dust. We switched to the emergency spare room where we discovered bed bugs in our bunks. We left at 3am because of the disgusting conditions. The employees were both rude or unconcerned, the receptionist we brought our concerns to was drinking and smoking weed. The manager didn’t take us seriously and dismissed our concerns. Absolutely do NOT stay here!

Great location and staff! But the cleaning was almost non-existent - new people came into used beds, and there were bedbugs as well. Common rooms were also rather dirty. The people were lovely though, and the location almost made up for it.

Bad experience - received BED BUG BITES all over my face and back, and even after reaching out by email... they never got back to me or did anything to fix the matter. Very disappointed and disgusted by this.

I’m never a person to leave reviews, but after being in marseille for only one day I felt that I needed to warn people. At first glance this hostel is very cute and quirky but once we checked into our room my friend noticed that there were small bugs crawling all over her bed. At least 10 to 15 small brown bugs. We weren’t sure if they were bed bugs but regardless what kind of bug it was, it was gross. We informed the hostel and luckily the front desk accommodating and moved us to a different room/building, but the cleaning ladies gaslit us by telling us it was not bugs but only debris from the ceiling when they were clearly moving. Besides the bugs, the hostel has very minimal kitchen utensils so if you plan to cook a lot or stay a long time I don’t recommend. (No oven, no stove only hot plate) The wifi also barely worked in an part of the hostel so if you need to work while traveling don’t rely on their wifi. As for marseille itself, I have never felt more unsafe as a female traveler. I got followed by two different men and was consistently stared at and harassed. If I was solo on this trip I wouldn’t of left the hostel at all. Overall not a great experience in the hostel or the city, so I do not recommend for any woman.
