Poor cooking facilities, dirty environment Hostel Pub is loud Don’t like the fact that I was made to wear a band
The wi-fi doesn’t work, the kitchen is dirty, the staff were unreasonable, bedbugs in the room and refused to give me a refund for my night there. Avoid at all costs there are much better options in the town even for walk ins.
This was an average hostel for an above average price. There was nothing over the top terrible, but the atmosphere, location, and cleanliness just weren’t what I would expect for paying a high cost.
Be careful with this place as they asked us to pay the remaining amount in dollars electronically when we arrived which was not at the blue exchange rate. It didn’t specify this up front so we insisted on paying in pesos, but not sure they’d do that all the time. The rooms need updating, seem old and a bit mouldy. We stayed in nicer places in El Calafate for the same price, but this place has a good common area
Very bad internet in the rooms, basically no atmosphere, but the staff was very nice and helpful
The hostel was nice but the bathroom for our private room was not very clean. We also were overcharged for the laundry service and we’re only told the full total right before checkout so we weren’t able to really talk to them about it. Be mindful of the laundry service costs as they add up and we paid $35 for laundry that didn’t look or smell cleaner than when we gave it over. Better off going to a laundrymat.
My boyfriend and i booked two beds in a 5 persons mixed dorm. But when we showed up the hostel had moved us to two separate 5 person dorms. We were looking forward to be in the same room and we found it very difficult not to be in the same dorm when we were travelling with a shared backpack. Besides the difficulty of being in separate rooms, we also found the hostel to be in a quite bad condition. It was not possible to lock the door to the shared toilet and bathroom. And there was no sign on t...
Stayed in a private room | Very friendly and helpfull staff | Close to city centre (walking distance) | Place felt safe | It was early season, so not really busy... the place probably has a nice atmosphere when it is busier | Nice communal areas | Unfortunately, the beds were way to soft (did not have a good sleep, back hurting in the morning) and the bathroom a bit old | Can also a bit noisy because of cars driving close to hostel
Staff were great, location was great. Facilities needed some repairs.

Amazing place to stay. Super friendly staff and great amenities with help with transportation, breakfast, and a functional kitchen to prepare for treks. I didn’t give a perfect review because the bathroom was a little rough, (the shower wasn’t great). Everything else is amazing and it was a good stay.
Best Hostel i have stayed in Argentina! The Breakfast is great and has a big variety of Stuff like scrambled eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade Hummus and so on. The Staff is really helpful and super kind. Especially Laura, Mar and Hannah made my stay special. Because there were not a lot of guests in the time of my visit i got an upgrade to a private Room which made me really happy. Its definitely worth to spend the extra money and get a good Hostel!
Hostel Schilling was the best!! Such a lovely environment with lots of art around, comfortable seating areas and welcoming dining space. The breakfasts were superb. But the highlight was the staff - absolutely amazing, so warm and friendly and super helpful. I am a lone female traveller and they really looked after me. I would highly recommend Hostel Schilling!!
This was my favourite hostel of my whole South America trip! The staff are absolutely lovely, the facilities are great, the hostel is super chill and a nice place to hang out and the breakfast was delicious!
Nice little hostel. Breakfast included was useful. Only downside is it wasn’t particularly social for solo travellers. Most guests were older groups and couples
Overall, this stylish hostel (and town) exceeded my expectations. Location - 10-20 mins to the bus terminal with/without luggage, 3 mins to the high street Breakfast - the best I've had out of about 500 hostels! Homemade hummus; banana bread; scrambled eggs, fresh watermelon, apple, orange; gluten free crackers... Dorm - Lots of plug sockets. The lower bunk is too low. You can't sit up and may hit yourself turning over. 5-8 min wait for hot water. More hooks in the bathroom please.
Great hostel and the staff are amazing! The location is also good, pretty close to the Main Street and about 20 min walk from the bus station. I thought the hostel was really clean and the breakfast was great. The only downside is that it was not a very social hostel but if you are looking for peace and quiet you will definitely get it here!
Great hostel, we were upgraded from a dorm to a private room both times we stayed. Staff were very helpful and nice and a decent breakfast included. Lots of common area space and place was clean. Good location from the Main Street.
Close to down town, clean, nice stuff. I got my booking upgrade easy, they are so helpful I feel like staying at my home.

Amazing staff! They’re incredibly friendly, helpful, and really take their time with you. The place is cleaned daily, and the breakfast is absolutely delicious. Loved my stay and highly recommend going there!
In town, slightly far but walkable distance (uphill) to the bus station. Amazing staff, very helpful with tips for El Calafate and travel around the area. Fanciest breakfast I’ve had in South America (own juice squeezer), nice back garden/kitchen area. Modern facilities and lock system. Would definitely come back
The staff at Hostel Schilling was both knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The room was more than adequate and the breakfast was awesome. With plenty gluten free options.
One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Every staff member is incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel at home, the breakfast is great, and we could store our luggage safely. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the bus station or a quick 5-minute taxi ride. I’d definitely choose this hostel again if I came back!
Beautiful hostel and the staff was amazing. I missed breakfast one morning and they noticed and brought me a plate later in the day. The location is close to all shops and restaurants but on a quiet side street.
Great hostal, cool team of lovely staff. Delicious breakfast!
very nice hostel, well located, good knowledgeable staff, decent breakfast
We loved this hostel and stayed here 3xs. Really friendly and helpful staff. Great location close to the high street. Really nice common areas where you can relax and well equipped kitchen. Rooms were nice and warm. Can only recommend!
Great stay. Staff are super friendly and accomodating. They will help you with just about anything without a hassle. The breakfast is great & the rooms are clean and cosy. I had a little trouble regulating the temperature of the hot water in the shower but I could make do with it. Atmosphere- there wasn’t a lot going on but I gather that’s the whole town itself, it’s a quiet town not the actual hostel. Overall experience at this hostel was fantastic.
Very nice place, located close to the city center! Staff is very helpful and provides good recommendations!
