We had high hopes for this stay given the location, but unfortunately our experience was far from relaxing. First and foremost, our room had visible signs of termites and what we believe were bed bugs. Both my partner and I developed itchy rashes during our stay, and another guest we spoke with mentioned the same issue. This alone would have been a serious concern, but it was not the only problem. There were dogs barking loudly throughout the night, which made it very difficult to sleep. The beds were extremely firm, more like sleeping on a wooden plank than a mattress. The pool is not a proper swimming pool. It is ocean water that gets pumped in and left to sit, becoming murky and warm after a few days. The restaurant food was mediocre at best, yet surprisingly expensive for the quality. While the staff was friendly, it did not make up for the general discomfort and lack of cleanliness throughout the property. We do not leave negative reviews lightly, but we felt it was important to share our experience so other travelers can make an informed decision. The setting is beautiful, but the maintenance, hygiene, and overall value are not what they should be.

Vibe-analyse
Twee kleine zoutwaterzwembaden kijken uit op zee, met zonsondergangviews als hoofdact. Isla Mulata ligt in een groene, rustieke eilandsetting met bomen, hangmatten, brede bungalows en een relaxte after-boat-hours mood. Kajaks zijn zonder extra kosten beschikbaar, en snorkelspullen mogelijk ook. De beste versie van het hostel is rustig, scenisch en simpel: ruime kamers of bungalows, vriendelijk personeel, goede cocktails of maaltijden wanneer de keuken goed landt, en een sterk island-offline gevoel. Er kan hulp zijn bij het regelen van lokale activiteiten, inclusief mangroves, snorkelen, kajakken of nachtzwemmen met oplichtend plankton. De trade-off is dat de accommodatie ook werkt als dagstop voor boottours. Van laat in de ochtend tot in de middag kan het druk, luid en krap worden qua zwembadruimte, stoelen en rust. Nadat de boten vertrekken, kan de mood weer terugschakelen naar stille-eiland-rust.

- Er is geen echt strand op locatie. Toegang tot zee wordt beperkt door een steiger, dieper water, passerende boten en soms lastige in- of uitgang.
- Eten en drinken kunnen duur zijn, met een beperkt menu en ontbijt dat basic kan voelen.
- Drukte van boottours overdag kan luide muziek, volle gemeenschappelijke ruimtes en viezere zwembaden of badkamers vóór de schoonmaak meebrengen.
- Service kan wisselvallig zijn, met trage maaltijden, zwakke kamerschoonmaak, ontbrekende kamersleutels, factuurissues of staff die focust op dagbezoekers.
- Sommige kamers kunnen last hebben van geluid, vochtigheid, insecten, zwakke waterdruk, slechte isolatie, geen warm water, beperkte airconditioning of geen wifi.
