the people that work there are nice but the rooms are terrible and there’s heaps of bed bugs. at least it was cheap and thankfully i only had one night haha

My partner and I made a reservation for two night. When we arrive, the room was completely dirty, the bed didnt have sheets or towels, underneath the bed there was so many trash, and also and a very important thing is there was so many bed bugs. The bathroom was a nightmare too. When we told to the recepcionist, he ofered a "free" drinks while someone cleaned the room. We said no and asked for other room. They said that didnt have other room. We Still complaining and the "manager" ofered one night and one of the aparment. We said no again, and asking for the refund but they didnt want to give us back the money. They are not friendly people, they are rude and the hostel is a completely disaster. Dont go!

My stay at Backpackers in paradise was not good. Bed bugs everywhere, a girl complained showing huge bites in her neck, shoulders and arms and the staff told her she’s not a professional to guarantee they are bedbugs so she shouldn’t be spreading the word. I have several marks on my body too and they said I must have caught it outside. The staff are mostly live-in volunteers that do not care if they keep the job or not. They barely clean, they are completely rude. And they burst in the rooms without knocking. Moreover, the filthy kitchen gets crowded with 4 people. You can barely cook anything without elbowing everyone. Last but not least, THE WIFI. Oh my god. Only 30 minutes are free, then you have to pay. Hard to believe a connection could be so slow. I went to reception after paying because I couldn’t understand the speed does not get higher after paying. They had they audacity to tell me my device does not work well. I believed her. Then I talked with people at the hostel and they were using their data all the time. Even though this hostel made my stay a little bit worse I enjoyed my stay in Gold Coast

Very bad hostel. The wifi is almost unusable and heavy, cockroaches roam the room every night, and there are bed bugs in the bed. I've traveled all over the world, but I've never used such a bad hostel. It's better not to stay overnight.

backpackers in HELL It is awful here, not worth it even though it’s a cheaper option. Cockroaches everywhere in the kitchen, communal area and bedrooms. The whole place is so unclean and the staff are unhelpful and rude. Also heard rumours of bedbugs? but didn’t have any myself. Stay at your own risk

Stayed with 2 of my friends. Before checking in we were worried after reading some questionable reviews. But we were pleasantly surprised. Upon checking in we received clean sheets (didn’t have to pay $20 for a blanket). Our room was a 10 person female, it had air conditioning and it’s own bathroom which was adequately clean. The room felt secure and safe. There was enough plugs for everyone. No bed bugs! At the end of the day we got what we paid for, it wasn’t perfect but much better than expected.

ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL. Firstly, the photos on their webpage do not accurately represent the way the buildings/facilities now look. They are MUCH worse in person. No aircon in the rooms. Bathrooms are disgusting. Don't even start me on the kitchen (cockroaches!). Someone elses hair was all over the bed sheets of my private room when I arrived - dont even know if they'd been changed from previous stay. Bed extremely uncomfortable (could feel springs) and nothing appealing about the room. To charge $150 a night for this dingy joint should be illegal. Ive stayed in backpackers before and this is sooo bad compared to them. The people hanging around didnt make me feel overly safe. After reading other reviews (which I should have done before booking) wasn't game enough to stay the night and risk bed bug bites. Left same day I checked in and the staff didnt really care.

I dont understand how ppl rate this 5 stars, thats insane. The kitchen is small and nasty, the beds look like prison, there is a cockroach infestation, bed have bed bugs (my friend found 1 alive on her bunkbed), everything is terrible and looks like they lack maintenance, even small things like one of the guys toilrt missing a handle so unusable. I could go on... yes, this is the cheapest motel in the Gold Coast, but youd be basically paying to spend the night living in a nightmare.

So the (only) good things about this hostel are the location and the people staying there, everyone was very welcoming and nice. HOWEVER, let me warn you guys about a few things, cockroaches EVERYWHERE, we got bedbugs are second night there everywhere on our body and the guy at the reception did a tiny check of the mattress said he didn’t see anything and just put it back where it was. Kitchen is straight up foul, wifi doesn’t work, and hot water was literally non existant. It is a cheaper option but to your own risk. Its honestly not HORRIBLE but definitely not good

I don’t normally write reviews, however I am writing this to warn you about staying at this hostel. The whole place just has a grotty and unclean feel to it. After eventually checking in, I went to my room and it was absolutely boiling. (Every time I went to reception to ask for it to be switched on they were closed). However, it was the following points that topped it all off for me: - I was informed there had been several robberies in the hostel over the past 2 days, including in my own room. Immediately put a downer on my stay. - My bedding/ sheets were covered in long hairs and dandruff, so obviously had not been changed. Naturally I went to reception and asked for this to be sorted, where I was met with a “sorry about that”. I then had to actually ask for something to be done about it… - There was a bed bug infestation - furthermore the showers and facilities were akin to those of a prison cell, absolutely foul. I loathed this place so much that I’ve actually checked out a day early to go to Brisbane.
