- En primer lugar un servicio pésimo, para comer ahí tardan más de 1h en preparar 5 platos de lo cual 3 eran igual y los otros dos también, después te preguntan si quieres limpieza de habitaciones, cosa que no se pregunta pero igual habíamos dicho que si, nuestra sorpresa fue llegar a las 23:00h y encontrarnos la habitaciones igual que la dejamos las toallas mojadas, cosa que veníamos de ver una de las cascadas es decir veníamos empapados y solo nos apetecía una ducha caliente y una toalla seca, nos atendió una recepcionista prepotente, dándonos a entender que era nuestra culpa por no avisar, cuando ya habíamos solicitado una servicio de limpieza, después de un rato peleando por lo que nos pertenece, se ablando y nos dio toallas y sábanas limpias, una experiencia que no volvería a repetir, me dio pena porque era una viaje en familia, y todos nos llevamos un mal trago, apostamos por este hotel, porque se veía super bonito, así en la montaña y con bonitas vistas, pero vamos prefiero pagar menos y llevarme mejor recuerdo
+ Been traveling 12 years.. over 700 hostels and hotels.. top 5 worst experiences I’ve ever had .. facilities are great, and day staff was amazing.. issue was the hostel is about 3-4 km outside of town. I asked the staff if I went out at night for drinks what’s the latest I could return without issue.. they assured me anytime would work just fine. First night I came back around 4:30am to the gate being locked and no one from staff answering my calls/texts.. so I had to jump over the fence to get into my room. Told them.. and was told they had a special friendly taxi that could assist and it wouldn’t happen again.. messaged taxi at 2:30am next night with no response.. walked street by 3am finding no outside taxis to return me and had to book a new hostel. Third night came back at 1:30am with a taxi to again find the main gate locked and no one answering.. this time I was with a an old friend I met in Ecuador last year who works at a hostel downtown .. they were full and she asked if she could catch a ride back with me to book herself a bed at mama Tungu.. when we arrived we tried the gate and to message multiple times with zero response so again I jumped the fence and helped her over.. we were met with a security guard strobe flashing a light in my face. I told him what happened and he ignored all I was saying.. I explained what occurred the nights prior and that no one was responding to which he then went in to call my friend a whore .. and tried forcing us to book a private room for near triple it was posted online.. even though they had dozens of open dorm beds.. we did not want to sleep together as that is not our relationship with one another.. so I told him to call the owner who went on the also essentially call my friend a whore and threatened to call the police if I didn’t pay for the whole week stay while kicking her out so I followed..

I just wrote a long review about my experience on booking so I’ll be brief.. beautiful nature hostel.. location is a bit away from town but nothing if normally be too bothered by. Been traveling for over a decade.. hundreds of hostels. Never an experience like this. When I arrived I asked the latest time I could return . Banos has a decent night life. They said no worries anything works. First night zero response from hostel ended up staying in city paying for another place. Second night after...
Customer service was bad from the start. We arrived around 1-2 AM and I appreciated her waiting after our long ride from Cuenca the interaction immediately made me want to leave. But we were so far from everything, we had no choice but to wait until morning. We slept a little got up at 7am and left by 9am. The place is beautiful, but no signal, terrible wifi, no outside food allowed, and no kitchen, which made it even less welcoming. Got a refund and went to Great Hostel Backpackers.
The hostel itself is super nice and almost like a hostel - great facilities, very clean etc. I booked the rafting activity through the hostel and was charged $30 but found out that everyone else on the same tour only paid $20, so don’t book tours through the hostel! I understand hostels want a bit of a mark up but 50% really is taking advantage of people. Paid $2 for refillable tea but there was never hot water available (15 minute wait). Hostel was very empty so not much atmosphere.

we liked the location of the hostel because it is a little bit outside of town and in the mountains (we thought it would be relaxed place with yoga etc.) it wasn’t busy when we were there, only 8-10 people but that was okay for us it wasn’t okay that they played loud music every night until 11.30pm even nobody was around and we asked them multiple times if they can turn the music down. it seemed like they didn’t care what their customers want and just play loud music even if nobody is aro...

We loved our stay at this hostel. The owner (Seb) was the best & really helped us enjoy our time in Banos. The facilities were so good too (jacuzzi, pool, pool table etc)
We really enjoyed our stay here!! Dorms were clean and the beds were comfy. Showers were hot and powerful. The jacuzzi was amazing then getting into the pool for a ‘cold plunge’. Seb was an amazing host, he went above and beyond with every request we had. We booked all our activities direct with the hostel. The food was also great. Shout out too to Marty the bartender!
The nicest staff I've ever met. The manager is great, the atmosphere is awesome—I highly recommend it.
Amazing experience start to finish. Rooms were clean, food was excellent and well priced, big community atmosphere but not over the top crazy party hostel vibe. Each night there was a different event such as trivia night, poker, beer pong, karaoke etc. All the staff were EPIC ! Sebastian will introduce himself to you pronto and becomes your “everything guy” very personable, goes above and beyond for you , helping book you trips outside the hostel etc. also shoutout Martin the bartender. 10/1...

The manager Sebastian is always around to answer questions and help you plan your trip - he encouraged me to go rafting and it was the best part of my stay. The rooms are always clean, the food is great and really well priced. Highly recommend Mama Tungu - I’ll be back for sure!
We had the best time at Mama Tungu. The weather wasn’t on our side, so we couldn’t do all the tours, but Seb was brilliant, helpful, flexible and sorted us great rates, even finding us snorkels for the Galápagos. The staff are amazing and evening activities make it really social. It’s a little out of town, but near gorgeous waterfalls, and the food is so good we never needed dinner elsewhere. Thanks Mama Tungu!
We cked in and right away we had a blast playing poker and lost and had to jump in the pool which was amazing !! Cannot stress enough to book a night because we extended twice , location is perfect !!! Not to say Banos isn’t great but this place has it all !! “ you can’t by time and peace “- Sebastian , what a legend 🫶

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Planned to stay three days and extended to five. Brilliant atmosphere attracting freak people. Lovely area for a walk, slightly out of town but close to a lot of waterfalls. No kitchen but the restaurant is great and mostly inexpensive. Highly recommend.
Good food, amazing atmosphere, loads of fun. The manager will literally move mountains to improve your stay. I’ve never seen this level of service anywhere in my travels. Shout out to Seb
Super friendly staff, the manager Seb was super helpful with organising activities. Common areas were great, felt like a resort not a hostel and there was a super social vibe

+ Mama Tungus is the best hostel we’ve stayed in during our time in Ecuador. We moved here from the Great Backpacker Hostel and found it much nicer. The rooms were really well-equipped and clean. Overall, there was a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere. The pool was nice and cool and the hot tub warm – perfect combi. The staff were all very friendly and helpful (: They offer every tour you need. It’s a bit out of the way, but that’s exactly what I particularly liked. There are a few waterfalls you can reach on foot. All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be back ((:

From my experience traveling, I've never encountered a hostel with this level of service. The manager and reception will move mountains to make your stay worth it. I loved that I could book any activity I wanted to do in Banos from within the hostel, for cheaper than online at that. When you arrive, you get the manager's personal phone number which is a great personal touch. It's not in the center of Banos but it has everything you need — great food, activities, billiards, a bar, pool. Book it...
This is the place to stay in Banos, there is a great community feel. U can do all Banos has to offer from the hostel. I would highly recommend the rafting trip which you can book through the hostel for cheaper than online. The only downside is being slightly outside of town but u can get taxi for 3 dollars. If u visit make sure to contact the manager Seb who seemlessly organises everything u need, even taking broken phones to be fixed! Also the included breakfast is definitely worth it!!

The place feels like a big family. It’s very clean, with great service, and there’s plenty to do like playing pool- table. You don’t even need to go out to have a good tim , you can still have an amazing experience in Baños even though it’s not right in the center, which actually makes it even better. Plus, you don’t need to look for a tourist agency. You can just go to the reception, and they will book any activity you want for you. 👍
First of all, this is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in South America. The place, the vibe, and the staff are all 10/10. While I was staying there, there was an incident, and the way the staf especially the manager, Sebastian (Seb) handled it was truly above and beyond. As a female traveler, I felt very safe here. I would definitely recommend this hostel and will absolutely stay again. I even extended my stay by two nights
