Ryokan Hostel Gion

Great hostel but paying 160 dollars for a 24 person female dorm room is such a scam. Annoyed at the price. Great location.

Way too expensive for one night and the atmosphere was unfortunately not so nice :( But it was clean and had good beds

Very clean and surprisingly quiet considering there are 24 dorms. Plenty of showers and bathroom stalls, nice amenities — including a much appreciated curling iron! Convenient location next to Gion district. Matcha and coffee machine in community space was nice. Kitchen is not great for those that actually want to cook. Very quiet even in community space, not very social. Nice small locker in bed area. Bed capsule was roomy enough to keep my large backpack with me rather than large locker.

Pros: location and price Cons: the smell in the room was absolutely unbearable. I checked out after an hour to find somewhere else.

I enjoyed my stay especially because they dim the lights down at 10pm in the dorms and finally you have dark room to sleep in!!❤️plus the whole vibe is very warm and calm inside the cozy hostal. only minus is that the lady’s toilet is on the 3rd floor and I stayed in the mixed dorm on the 2nd but that’s a minor inconvenience. Perfect Location in Gion. Overall one of my favorite hostels I’ve ever stayed in!

The absolute most perfect location. It was a great hostel, honestly. I thought it was a little expensive compared to other places I stayed on my last trip in Kyoto, but there’s really no complaints. It has a really nice smoking area on the roof as well, laundry was a nice facility as well. I just love Japanese hostels.

Excellent location and clean facilities, with a lovely communal living space. However, I would say slightly overpriced, due to the lack of enough showers (I had to wait quite a long time for one to become free) and insufficient air conditioning in the dorm room I was sleeping in. Also, there is no storage space provided for big bags, so the dorm became very crowded with everyone's stuff. However, overall this is a very pleasant hostel, and you really couldn't ask for a better location - right in...

Great hostel in the heart of Gion district, Kyoto. A little expensive for the location but otherwise was very clean with incredibly nice staff! I would recommend this place as it’s still very close to the bar district.

One of my favourite hostels in my trip to Japan. Super nice conditions. I did find it a bit pricy comparing to other hostels I’ve stayed in Tokyo, Osaka, Naha, etc I guess it reflects how touristy Kyoto is

Good facilities, but I think quite overpriced like most of Kyoto. I just don’t think it’s anything special. Staff are great, services are great, but pretty straightforward, if you’re looking for something authentic and unique I’d try another place.

Great hostel! The pods have tatami mats which is so fun. It’s social but more subdued. Beds are comfy and it’s super easy to access nightlife and restaurants from here. Would recommend

Amazing place to stay right next to Gion district. Very clean, quiet, and great facilities. Within walking distance of many transportation and lots of restaurants and shops around!

Very comfortable beds with privacy curtain, a little safe and plug and lights. Left the windows open at night, so even with that many people in one room it was great. Coffee downstairs for 100 yen is quite tasty and the small kitchen is enough for fixing a quick snack.

Nice and quiet hostel. They have a strict no shoes policy so it is best to bring your own house-shoes.

Bon hostel, très bien situé dans le quartier des geishas :) il n’a pas trop de salle commun donc pour rencontrer du monde c’est un peu compliqué. Cependant les chambres sont bien, le lit est spacieux et il y a pas mal d’équipement dans les salles de bains.

Really enjoyed my stay, has all the amenities and spacious rooms, plenty of showers per floor, hairdryers etc. They provided a clean towel daily. Helpful and friendly staff. Hostel has a nice vibe, common room and kitchen area straight after walking in reception door, kitchen is basic- small toaster oven not suitable for cooking full meals, just microwave. One washing machine and dryer but laundrette across road. Overall great stay and bonus points for good location.

My friends and I stayed for 4 days in this Hostel and we all didn't want to leave ! Even though we feared that the 24 people room would feel too crowded, each bed was isolated and we felt really safe and comfortable. The bathrooms and other common rooms are clean. The common space on the first floor is spacious which facilitates meeting between people. The staff is kind and helpful and allows you to leave your belongings at the hostel for the whole day after checking out. I highly recommand !

Amazing hostel, great location and amenities nearby, quiet but social feels like proper Japan accomodation and walking distance to the main Kyoto area and easy public transport access

If I had to stay in a hostel in Kyoto again, this would be my very first choice. Nice location, clean amenities, friendly staff, and most especially such a spacious capsule. Highly recommend.

Such a great stay. Comfortable, peaceful, great location, and very well kept hostel. Would recommend staying here to all my friends and family. Cannot wait to come back again!
