Monteverde Monkey Hostel

Disappointing. Free breakfast isn’t really a thing unless you’re up at 6am… by 7:30am all the eggs were gone - 1 tray isn’t enough for a full hostel. I did ask if it was possible for more but was told no.

Very very dirty, cold showers, unclean beds, woke up to what looked like brown dots on the bed. Think the wooden bedframe was rotting. Kitchen was filthy and the oven didn’t work.

El peor hostel en el que he estado, el lugar es lindo y la ubicación buena pero había cucarachas en la cocina, el desayuno es dos huevos y dos panes que tienes que cocinar por ti mismo, no había agua caliente cuando el clima era frío y lluvioso, nadie del staff resolvía nada ni sabían nada, la gerente es la única que resolvía y nunca estaba. No recomiendo este lugar en lo absoluto

There was no door for the bathroom, in a 3 person bedroom. The kitchen was dirty and the lighting quite sparse. Absolutely not worth booking a private room. However, the staff were very sweet and helpful. Travels booked through them.

Worst hostel I have ever been to, overpriced.Rats in the floor and ceiling, you can hear them scurrying at night. Breakfast included means make it yourself. Staff is completely clueless, any question is answered with “I don’t know”. Where is the hammock pictured, it’s not hung up? How does the oven work? Is there hot water? What time do the buses run? “I don’t know” 🤷‍♂️ No security, place is completely unlocked and unstaffed after 9pm. I got bit by more mosquitos than any...

Vraiment une mauvaise expérience. Il y avait de la moisissure dans les chambres, ce qui m'a rendue malade. (surtout dans celles du bas, par chance j'ai pu changer, mais il y avait quand même de la moisissure sur les murs). Aussi, il n'y avais pas de casier disponible dans les dortoirs et elle ne m'a pas donné la clé de la chambre. Finalement, j'étais seule dans mon dortoir et mon savon à disparue. Ils m'ont répondu qu'il l'avait sûrement jeté en. faisant le ménage....

The vibe overall and the location were good. The private room was uninhabitable due to the smell coming from the bathroom drain. The lady who works there said it's normal but also admitted no other rooms smell like that. after staying at 100+ hostels, no other hostels smell like this. We could not sleep or even be in the room so we paid for a night and left. The lady overcharged us and did not give us the correct change. There are other good hostels nearby that are better and cheaper.

I was treated like a monkey. They charged me 13% more for using a credit card. No other hostel charged me such a fee and there was no mention of this under booking details. WiFi was down and the owners final responses were "I've already reset it" and "Just use the WiFi upstairs". Quiet hours aren't enforced and party time is allowed past 11pm. Our dorm window is broken allowing bugs in. The vibe is it off here and it feels as if they don't care about their guests and only about profit.

Genuinely the worst hostel stay I’ve ever had. Was in room “2”. I paid extra for a private room hoping for a good night sleep. The room stank of sewage and human waste, no soundproofing at all - the traffic and common area sounded as if they were inside my room. When I left the hostel they cancelled my booking on “hostel world” so I’ve had to go through a procedure in order to make this review, I believe they do the same for everyone in bad rooms to keep their review scores high. Originally booked a 6-bed en-suite room but was checked into a 4-bed dorm with a shared bathroom instead, which was disappointing. There were only two shared bathrooms for the entire hostel—one was blocked, and the other was locked and unavailable one morning. The shower also flooded the whole bathroom. Breakfast is self-serve with eggs, bread, and bananas but it wasn’t always set out for 7am. The room itself only had one plug socket. However good location and the kitchen was cleaned regular...

Never left a review before but feel I have to. The hostel tried to refuse us the free breakfast despite it being advertised everywhere. After I checked out, they tried to make me pay $35 more, arguing that I stayed an extra night (not correct!!). Rude staff, 1 bathroom for 20 people, not a single knife in the kitchen, not enough places for people to sit. You're not allowed in the kitchen from 9am-12. View is nice, showers are hot and I met great people. Otherwise I can't recommend.

It was a good value stay, i enjoyed my time, that being said you have to be okay with mild inconveniences. The wifi was occasionally slow, there is only 1 bathroom for the downstairs rooms, the breakfast is make it yourself with coffee, egg, bread, and bananas but there were plenty of kitchen appliances. I didn't find the staff super helpful but they were friendly. They weren't around in the morning or evenings though and all the doors remained unlocked, no key was given to me for the bedroom.

It's okay, nothing to write home about. The location was the best thing. Not much of an atmosphere or a common area for solo travellers. The staff were very nice but didn't think they were super knowledgable on what to do in the area. My room was a private one, the sheets had a couple of stains and it was pretty basic. No fan or AC meant I had to sleep with the window open and it got quite loud at times.

Hostel ok, mais booker une chambre de 4 pour avoir une chambre de 6. Dire petit déjeuner compris, ou tu as les ingrédients et que tu cuisines mais qu’il n’y a rien. J’ai pas vraiment compris.

this hostel is fantastic! unvelievably beautiful views, low prices, very friendly and helpful staff - eggs and bread and banana free to cook breakfast with, clean kitchen and rooms, ensuit for the private rooms and the staff will reserve tours and shuttles for you (which is really really useful once you realise no Uber in the town) - also great last minute prices on shuttles through the hostel.Great vibe and amazinggggg view for so small a price it's hard to believe!

Good hostel for a few nights but nothing special. A bit old and not very pretty. Personal is amazing. They have great recommendations for activities. If you are not too picky perfect place

Nice hostel! Pancale and fruit breakfast and grocery near by. Had a good stay here and close to the mountains with a nice view. Spacious rooms Too and nice staff

this place was awesome! there was a cat, free eggs in the kitchen, great location, great vibe. 100% recommend

Prix très bas donc la qualité est équivalente. Le seul gros problème est la porte d’entrée qui parfois est verrouillée et qui peut être verrouillée par n’importe qui. J’ai du figurer une façons d’entrer car je me suis retrouvé enfermé dehors.

Lo bueno que tiene el hostal es que es barato y bien ubicado. Por la temporada baja no había mucho ambiente, pero eso no me molestaba. Lo que no me gustó fueron la seguridad — no había conserje y la puerta del hostal estaba toda la noche abierta — la ducha semi-rota y trato del personal. Respecto a lo último sentía que no sabían para nada aconsejarme en cuanto a tours o actividades. En fin, imagino que recibí lo justo para el precio que era!

el hostel es muy lindo tiene mucho potencial pero estaba en obras así que no pudimos aprovecharlo mucho, su dueña muy amable y atenta a todo.La ubicación está muy bien!

Was een renovatie bezig waar niks over was vermeldt. Stof overal. Zogenaamd free breakdance was er ook niet. Geen beveiliging. Personeel kon geen engels en was niet behulpzaam. Gingen al om 15.30 naar huis terwijl receptie tot 21.00 open zou blijven. Iedereen kon ongestoord naar binnen 24/7 zonder beveiliging. Toen we hier hostels op hadden aangesproken werden we genegeerd en hebben sindsdien niks gehoord. We willen ons geld terug of iniefergeval een vergoeding want dit slaat nergens op.

Für den Preis gut und die Mitarbeiter waren freundlich das hostel war jedoch 24/7 für alle zugänglich keine safes für wertsachen und nicht wirklich sauber

The hostel owner is really relaxing and the hostel owner is such a nice person and cares for his guests!
