not good. a lot of dirt and a weird smell, no common areas, in my room there was a local person who had been staying there for a while who would go out and get heavily drunk each night

Il manque définitivement de charme et d'amour dans cette auberge. Il n'y a pas de lieu commun de détente. La chambre a une mauvaise odeur et il n'est pas possible d'ouvrir la fenêtre. Les lits sont inconfortables et il est difficile d'y grimper. Nous n'avons reçu aucun message d'accueil pour nous informer du code d'entrée. Heureusement, un autre résident nous a ouvert et donné quelques explications. Le propriétaire répond rapidement aux textos, mais n'est pas sur place pour nous accueil...

the only hostel in town, so do what you will, but it's not particularly clean, friendly, or comfortable. all said, it was fine.

Good hostel to stay for a couple of days, pretty central although it's a hike back up. Very clean and the man who works/lives there was good help, we felt very safe leaving our things there.

Hostel is in a good location, didn’t feel the most secure as the keys are left in a box at the front door which was open when I arrived! Only 1 shower for the whole hostel! The hostel has guests who appear to have been living there for a long period of time! Very off putting for travellers.

Thanks to Jeff and the staff for the great Newfoundland hospitality! Some of the reasons for the lower score is the lack of common areas. Some of the common areas in the pictures have been converted to rooms. The kitchen is quite tiny in the basement. And the biggest groan would be that there is only 1 total shower for the entire hostel and 2 total toilets. Best to go at odd hours! Staff was great and friendly, location is super central on Jellybean Row.

I recently stayed at city hostel and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean and well-maintained, and the location was convenient for exploring the city. The dormitory was comfortable and the atmosphere was welcoming. I enjoyed the communal kitchen and the organized activities that allowed me to meet other travelers. The only minor downside was the slightly weak Wi-Fi signal in some areas. Overall, I would recommendit to anyone looking

Great location and only hostel in St John’s, warm people as well. Note that it only has one shower for the whole hostel and two toilets ( one that’s barely functional ) beds creak quite a bit and quality of sleep was a little impacted due to bright rooms ( early sunrises in St John’s )

Convenient location, clean and well-maintained hostel. Bunk beds were creaky which made it hard to sleep. There's a single shower available but it was mostly available. Excellent staff and management.

Overall I had a wonderful stay. The location is ideal and the hostel caretakers were friendly and helpful. Security was fantastic and the shared kitchen was well-stocked with any cookware you might need. I will say, it would’ve been nice to have an additional bathroom. Most days I did have to wait to use one of the two bathrooms available for guests. It wasn’t a huge inconvenience though, and is to be expected with hostel lodgings. I would absolutely stay again if I were to return to St. Joh...

C'est propre et très bien situé, mais on ne peut pas dire que ça soit franchement confortable. Après pour le prix vraiment ça va.

Bien situé, l’auberge de jeunesse de St.John’s est confortable, propre et abordable comparée à d’autres établissements dans le secteur. Le seul hic: une seule douche pour tout l’hôtel.

Truly enjoyed this Hostel and what made it so special is meeting people we had already met on trail! Also, Roxanne was a super star host!🩵

A lovely little Hostel in the middle of St. John’s, great value for the money, could use one extra shower, but it looks like that is in progress. Staff are lovely! Even met some friends to tour around with. I love that. It includes towels and bedding. Lots of fans to keep you cool.

The staff were nice, there wasn’t much of a social aspect to the hostel that I was looking for. As others have said the bathrooms need improvement, one shower and the toilets always seemed to be malfunctioning . There seemed to be a lot of long term tennant there.

City Hostel was a very nice stay. Great location and quite quiet for a hostel. Would stay again.

The location, staff, and cleanliness are great. It’s not the nicest hostel I have stayed in; however, it’s affordable for what it is. Check-in, check-out, and payment procedures are confusing and the beds are really noisy. Contrary to other reviews, there is a shower upstairs, while another bathroom is being worked on downstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking while you’re there. Overall, it’s a nice, cozy hostel that I would definitely stay at again.

Well located, not expensive, good just for sleeping, but the beds could use some shelves to put your little stuff to avoid sleeping with some objects in your bed. Also the metal frame makes noise when you or your room mate moves around while sleeping. Curtains for the beds would be great to give some privacy. Also I recommend having more than 1 single bathroom for the whole place, we were sometimes waiting for it to be free.

The staff here was very friendly and helpful. The location was also very good and walkable to other sites in the city. The owner also had his own tour shuttle company which was cheaper than other tours and very personable too. And the hostel itself had a great kitchen and I had a small fridge in my dorm room. It was a good choice to stay here and I'd do it again because of the people I met.
