Mumma's Hostel Cairns

Horrible place unfriendly staff and people. Very aggressive tenants and long termers ruled this hostel with an iron fist. Do not stay here if you want to enjoy yourself.

The actual hostel and facilities were decent. The British girl working on reception was so rude and made us feel very uncomfortable from the initial interaction - not what you want when you have only just arrived. All the staff were quick unhelpful and we were made to feel that we were an inconvenience. The location is really good and the beds were comfortable, however it was the most unsocial hostel I’ve ever been to. The people staying are all long term so don’t want to interact.

The most disgusting hostel I’ve ever been to.The employees don’t even do the bare minimum when it comes to cleaning.There was a big dead roach on the ground floor that was never cleaned up.There were dirty foot marks on the ceiling above my bed.The lockers were all broken and needed a chain to lock.Constantly dirty everywhere.I met a couple that booked a private room and said that when they arrived there were blood stains on the sheets.Do NOT go here!!! So soooo dirty!! Kitchen was a complete mess, as were the common areas. Room was reasonably clean. Very noisy, can hear everything through the walls. Staff not overly helpful or welcoming. Needs a good clean... Probably a renovation to be honest. Would not recommend staying here.

This was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in! The ceilings of our room were covered in mold and when we let the hostel know that this is affecting my health (because of a chronic illness), they did not even care. Apart from that I was bitten by bed bugs and there are wet towels on the floor everywhere because the rain can get inside the hostel. Such conditions are unacceptable, even for a hostel! Do yourself a favor and never stay at this hostel!

Was charged extra after checkout because the room was not cleaned enough. The thing was that the room looked terrible before we arrived with tons of rotten food and trash under the bed and also in every corner. The room also had like old “playwood” just standing in the room. In the room it was plastic on the roof so the sun woke us up every morning when it was sunrise. That’s not it! When we wanted to check in, no one was there to help us and we didn’t get any code or key to the room. It...

Doesn’t seem to be anyone working there. When I checked in to my room the floor was sticky from empty alcohol bottles and orange juice! Everyone seems to be living there so there is no room for your belongings or a locker to use. Bathrooms are disgusting. I checked out a day early due to bed b*gs to which the lady who checked me out replied “ugh another problem I’ll have to ring someone about that” and no apology! “Free breakfast” was gone by the time I got there.

This is not a hostel you want to go to. Facilities were really below standard and overall dirty. Nobody at reception. We booked a private room but we don’t think the dorms would be any better…

Poor Wi-Fi. Check in totally unreliable - nobody there until 4pm despite 2pm check in details. Nobody around to access luggage storage. Staff ignored me and walk straight past me, not helpful. Unclean rooms and facilities - no cutlery in the kitchen. Not enough laundry space. Avoid.

Absolute disgrace. Disgraceful culture and atmosphere. Non-existent *wner; pathetically lazy and filthy management 😅😅😅

I only spent one night there, but felt very comfortable. Didn't seem super social, but that might have been because I was just passing through. Beds were comfy and everything worked well!

VRAIMENT, sans hésiter, MEILLEURE AUBERGE ! Propreté irréprochable, personnels très sympathiques, cuisine/douches pratiques! Coin jardin + piscine incroyable. Comme l’impression d’être dans une maison de vacances. Et surtout la TRANQUILLITÉ, LE CALME. 10/10 Merci pour ce superbe séjour ! Si je reviens à cairns ça sera ici sans aucune hésitation !

Loved my stay at Mumma’s. Although no organised events I found it to be a lovely social hostel but also chilled. The kitchen and bathrooms are cleaned regularly and staff were great :) The only negative I would say is that there weren’t many lockers that you could actually lock in the dorm I was in

i loved this place- really nice hostel to start off our stay in australia! it’s got everything you need- staff is so friendly and kind, great kitchen to cook in, the place is clean and there’s lovely people to meet.

The place is very clean and the staff were nice. It’s in a great location, easy to walk wherever you want to go. The only thing is that it’s not a very social hostel, there’s no events on, and the light is always off in the bedroom which gets a bit annoying when trying to do anything in the day as you can’t tell whether people are in there or not. A lot of our packing was done outside the room, or by torchlight.

Solid place to stay for a couple of nights, the minimal bathroom situation was slightly inconvenient, but everyone was pretty considerate and quick with the showers. Good location, and staff were great. It was Freezing in the room I stayed in because the air con was cranked, but they do provide blankets which was nice. And the kitchen is pretty small to the amount of people staying there, but over all decent and I would stay again.

Loved the spacious rooms and bed were very comfortable. Perfect kitchen area and good free breakfast. A bit social but mostly long term stayers.

Excellent value for money, free breakfasts and air con in the rooms were great. Not too busy and most people seemed to be long term. Not loads of bathrooms or kitchen space but they were generally clean and tidy, and since it wasn’t too busy that was fine. Great location, 10 minutes to the esplanade. Free towels and curtains in the room which was a bonus. Good little hostel :)

The facilities and location are pretty decent but the vibes here are really off. Not really any english speaking people and people arent really interested in socialising with anyone outside of their groups/not very welcoming to new comers. The staff also contributed to this issue. Only one of the girls who cleaned during the day was nice, the other two girls that worked here were pretty rude.

We had a lovely stay at Mumma’s hostel. Cami was super lovely and made our stay :)

Très bon hostel sur cairns ! Les parties communes sont propres (chambres, toilettes, cuisine) c’est un hostel calme avec une ambiance familiale, facile pour créer du lien avec les autres. Le personnel est chaleureux et bienveillant , j’ai beaucoup aimé !

I had a lovely time here. The rooms were airconditioned to a lovely temperature and there were curtains on the beds which is very unusual for Australia. There was a nice pool too. The staff were lovely and helpful with all of my questions. However, I did find that the kitchen and living space got very hot, with no aircon and doors open. This did also attract mosquitos, and other bugs. There were also only 2 toilets and 4 showers on the ground floor, which sometimes meant queuing for a bit in the...

Decent stay in Carins! Lots of nice common areas.

Best hostel I’ve stayed at in cairns, super friendly and chill atmosphere. Feels nicely tucked away from the city despite being quite central. Staff of course were the best and facilities got everything you need and a nice balcony seating area. Be sure to use as many tools as possible if you’re fixing your van up out front I can assure you they, for some reason, have everything you need.
