Jill is the most arrogant manager ever. No consideration for her customers staying at this place. Constantly begins to start arguments even though the customers are right in scenarios. Wanted me to hold a shower head up with one hand and wash myself in a shower because the shower head was unusable on the holding attachment and did not consider to move me into another room. Jill should really consider how she treats customers. All other staff were lovely and willing to try provide a nice stay.
Its totally overpriced. I stayed one night; private room, more than 100, its pretty basic and tiny bathroom, which its ok, but not for that price. Next night I stayed in a better location for less money and really comfortable hotel (Motel One). Doesn not make sense.
Bathroom like in a camper. not ok for the money. tiny shower cell, no good water jet, everything wet on the floor, nothing to hang or hang in the bathroom and at the same time very noisy for the roommates. you can't change properly in the bathroom because it's so small, which is bad if you have to leave early and others don't want to wake up
I haven't stayed at the place as I was requesting them to cancel my stay which they didn't do and deducted the whole amount of 4 days stay from my account.
For a youth hostel, the people who I shared a room with were not youthful.
Pros: - very friendly staff receptionist - bathroom spotless Cons: - low value for money / expensive -> £70 for 4 beds dorm - far from the center centre - the breakfast was not great and wasn't included in the feefs
Wouldn’t recommend this hostel. It said that breakfast was included but it wasn’t. Our toilet was broken so we needed to switch rooms in the middle of the stay. The water jet from the sink and shower were extremely weak. WiFi was horrible. Only good thing was the self kitchen, although my bread got stolen.
Value is on the lower-end as it is expensive for a bare-bones experience. I stayed in the four-bed ensuite dorm, and the room is fairly large and there's even a closet, but the lockers are small, while the bathroom is tiny and gets wet all over immediately as a result. Bed itself was comfortable, but no privacy curtains are a glaring omission given the cost. Towels not provided but available for rent for only £2.50; no shower gel, only what seemed to be hand soap. There was an extra toilet and...
I've traveled extensively and have never checked out of a hostel early until I stayed here. The room was so hot that it was unbearable and I left after one night. The wifi was very weak. The USB charging ports did not work next to the bed. There was no staff at the front desk when I arrived. The location is in between raised train tracks and you can hear trains go by.
YHA Manchester felt more like a profit-driven hotel than fun hostel for youngsters. Cramped bathrooms, poor water pressure, and no free basic amenities made the stay uncomfortable. Breakfast was overpriced and just ok. While staff and cleanliness were fine, the lobby was at times overrun with school groups, killing the vibe for young travelers. Overall, not a social or fun hostel experience—more of a functional stopover than a place to connect. Nice guests somewhat made up for it.

everything was great for what I paid. Staff were helpful. A couple of things that could’ve been better: I wasn’t offered a towel on arrival, and I had to go back and get one later but as I was in a rush it was a little inconvenient. The charging point on my bed wasn’t working. The location is a little far out, 30min walk from Piccadilly, which isn’t too bad, it’s a nice area and there’s a really cool museum round the corner with great coffee and breakfast next to it.
Lovely friendly staff so helpful.
Would highly recommend. Central location but by the canal so quiet, really nice room with everything you need, easy to check in/out and they offer private rooms. Just like staying in a budget hotel but much cheaper
Cool location ,friendly staff, good breakfast. Not inexpensive but can recommend

Nice stay, common area is nice
At the time of my check in, staff took 30 mins for my check in. Generally, no one available and we need to call out for a staff
Excellent affordable choice
Convenient central location and well-kept facilities. Staff are professional but not very approachable as they stay behind the counter. The "no outside drinks" policy feels unfriendly and more like a push to buy house drinks, leading people to drink surreptitiously in rooms instead of socialising. It’s also cashless, which could be stressful if you have card issues. Overall, more corporate than a social backpacker vibe.
The staff were very nice. The beds are the classic blue mattress and metal bunk beds you find in many hostels. A lot of families staying here as well.
Good experience overall. - Lovely staff who are there for your questions, are social and helpful communicating with you. - Great facilities although some kitchen utensils could use a replacement. - Cleaning personnel is every day active which is lovely. - Over time there is a somewhat unpleasant smell active within the room. Some air fresheners would've been great. - Would have loved for some activities / events arranged by the hostel to create a better atmosphere / active & social enviro...
Property was nice and in a good location. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Internet/Wifi was not very good. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly however the condition of them was rough.
Bastante bien. No dan toallas, tener en cuenta esto. Me sentí segura. Ubicación buena
No and towels, keep this in mind. i felt safe. good location.
Lovely as always!
save, clean and in a nice location
Bon emplacement, lit très confortable
Good location, very comfortable bed
Clean, modern, efficient. The inside of the building is a bit bland, but the built environment around it is very fine. I liked the texts scattered around about local history. Signage to the hostel is well done. There is a fee bus to and from Manchester Picadilly from Liverpool Street and the Science Museum, just up the road.
I feel that the property and the staff are all absolutely fantastic, it is my first stay at a YHA and I am absolutely blown away with how good the stay and service is. Everyone works very hard from the front of house reception team, to the chefs, to the cleaning staff - the place is clean, safe, a very comfortable sleep, nice and flexible, the self-catering kitchen is a really useful addition, and the decor looks lovely - very Christmassy and warm for this time of year.
I would rate this place decently good. The location is good, have lots of pubs on the street. Some members of staff did not seem very welcoming. Commensurate to the price, rooms do not measure up.
I stayed at YHA Manchester for 3 nights in December 2025 and I had a great time. It was reasonable close to most places I wanted to visit and felt fairly safe. The hostel itself had all the amenities, except laundry which wasn't a big deal, since I didn't need to wash my clothes during my stay. The self serve kitchen was very handy. The common areas had everything I needed. I would stay here again. Thanks to Olivia.
